Happy Birthday, Elmo! | 
• Just kidding, this post isn't really about me and I'm so relieved •
Today is my 33rd birthday. Whereas days like today once filled me with self-absorbed thoughts of MY day, MY wishes, MY desires...today feels very different. Last year, the day before my 32nd birthday, I discovered I was expecting and it kick-started something crucial in me. Something that was on the surface of my experience but not quite unearthed yet.

bibliobliss Fast forward to actual motherhood a year later and I feel the transformation process is almost complete. There's a long road ahead, as there always is, but I no longer think of myself in the same way; it's just not about me anymore -- and strangely, I'm so relieved. It's truly my day, but my thoughts are so far from being about myself. They are, quite simply, only focused on my child. 5y
bibliobliss What I want to do today is trivial compared to what my son needs and wants, and it's so rewarding to think about someone else for a change. I'm not saying that I have everything figured out -- far from it -- but today of all days, for the first time in my life, I feel like a true adult. 5y
bibliobliss As I watch him take a bottle and slowly fade off into an afternoon slumber, I am reminded why I'm here and it has nothing to do with me. I am here to take care of him and help him grow into a strong person full of love. He's my heart, world, everything...and my birthday only serves to remind me of this fact. 5y
