These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 Arizona Territories (Bound for Schools & Libraries)
These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 Arizona Territories (Bound for Schools & Libraries) | Nancy E Turner
In a compelling fiction debut, Nancy E. Turner's unforgettable "These Is My Words" melds the sweeping adventures and dramatic landscapes of "Lonesome Dove" with the heartfelt emotional saga of "Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All."Inspired by the author's original family memoirs, this absorbing story introduces us to the questing, indomitable Sarah Prine, one of the most memorable women ever to survive and prevail in the Arizona Territory of the late 1800s. As a child, a fiery young woman, and finally a caring mother, Sarah forges a life as full and as fascinating as our deepest needs, our most secret hopes and our grandest dreams. She rides Indian-style and shoots with deadly aim, greedily devours a treasure trove of leatherbound books, downs fire, flood, Comanche raids and other mortal perils with the unique courage that forged the character of the American West.Rich in authentic details of daily life and etched with striking character portraits of very different pioneer families, this action-packed novel is also the story of a powerful, enduring love between Sarah and the dashing cavalry officer Captain Jack Elliot. Neither the vast distances traveled nor the harsh and killing terrains could quench the passion between them, and the loss and loneliness both suffer only strengthen their need for each other. While their love grows, the heartbreak and wonder of the frontier experience unfold in scene after scene: a wagon-train Sunday spent roasting quail on spits as Indians close in to attack; Sarah's silent encounter with an Indian brave, in which he shows her his way of respect; a dreadful discovery by a stream that changes Sarah forever; the hazards of a visit toPhoenix, a town as hot as the devil's frying pan; Sarah's joy in building a real home, sketching out rooms and wraparound porches.Sarah's incredible story leads us into a vanished world that comes vividly to life again, while her struggles with work and home, love and responsibility resonate with those every woman faces today. "These Is My Words" is a passionate celebration of a remarkable life, exhilarating and gripping from the first page to the last. "Nancy Turner knows the land of the 19th-century Territories, as it must have been, and she knows the landscape of the heart as it was then and always is." -- Meg Files, author of "Meridian 44"

Really good! Hard to put down once you start reading it, this quiet yet powerful story of a young surprised me. Her strength and independence, her intelligence and grit. Loved hearing about these settlers in the territories, though the times were hard and heartbreaking in so many ways. I understand all the love for this book! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #roll100 @PuddleJumper

I'm a big fan of stories written through diary entries, especially historical fiction, so this book was right in my wheelhouse. There were a few sections that felt a little slow, but for the most part, this story of a young woman coming of age in the Arizona territory kept me wanting to read more.

This is an Amazon Kindle Deal, on sale for $1.99. Although it is a fictionalized account of one woman‘s life in early America, it reads like a memoir. Wonderful book!!!

I enjoyed this historical fiction during the late 1800s in Arizona. Life was tough and dangerous. I fell for Sarah. What a complex and strong woman. Western life and romance while raising a family in an unforgiving time. Bring your tissue.

Foragingfantasy I began this one last year, I need to pick it back up. 6y
InnerSavvy @Foragingfantasy It took me a little to adjust to her way of speaking but then it became important to the story. I say, pick it back up. 😊 6y

It's been a long time since I've read a book that made me feel the way I feel about the main character, Sarah Prine. The hardships of being in a wagon train, bound for, then settling in the AZ Territories in the 1800s, and the stories of family, back-breaking work, joys, and heartbreaks were rich with detail. Sarah Agnus Prine was a badass, and this AZ girl feels a new connection with her birth state and a woman of unbelievable strength. 5 stars.

Onlaughterandliteracy @Sydsavvy I'm sure I will love it! 7y
Sydsavvy Also this one is a fairly new page turner. The author is a Texas gal who I would not have heard of without the blogger group I belong to. They were all absolutely gushing when her sequels came out this year so I decided to check it out and discover the fuss. And it was just so much fun. This one was a bit of a risk but based on what you like, I think it was a safe one. 7y

I don't know how much of this book was fact and how much was fiction - but I really enjoyed this story. The main character is a strong woman who faces challenges (mostly) head on - with a little naïveté thrown in for good measure. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Sometimes when I contemplate my TBR, I think about Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally... Whenever he starts a new book, he flips to the end so that if he dies before finishing he'll know how it ends. I wonder how many books on my TBR I'll never read. That's my morbid thought of the days, folks! Happy holidays!

There are no words for how much I love this book and the female lead. I felt completely riveted.

Sarah educated herself, fought off bad people and poisonous snakes, and ran two businesses. She loved people, she lost people. She raised a large family and had a sense of humor. Her thoughts are raw and honest. I can't say enough good things about this story and its secondary cast. It has gone straight to my favorites list and I want to reread ASAP.

Between making and selling her own soap + raising and selling cows, Sarah has saved $500 in a rusty can in her pantry. She wants to put it in the bank. It is 1887 in the Arizona Territories.

I'm so sad this book is almost over! Nancy Turner writes the most kick-butt female leads. (My Name is Resolute, anyone?) They're so strong and fierce and able. I love Sarah. Love love love her.
