La bussola d'oro
La bussola d'oro: Queste oscure materie. 1 | Philip Pullman

Much better series to listen to with Trix on our commutes to school and activities. I particularly love this first book in the series which introduces Lyra and the concept of the animal daemon. It is a magical idea - having a speaking animal companion for your whole life. I wish Pullman kept the religious aspects out of it but I guess he is the modern day CS Lewis.
Regardless it is a wonderful book.

5 ⭐️s
With a fast-moving plot and deeply complex characters, Pullman crafts a deeply atmospheric and metaphor rich world. Pullman uses his own religious views to create fantastical inversions, all deeply tied to his personal interpretation of Paradise Lost and Christianity. I have SO many feelings about this book; I love the characters and worldbuilding, even if I don't agree with Pullman's religious convictions.

First thing that came to my mind with #Lights was the first book in the excellent ‘His Dark Materials‘ Trilogy by. Philip Pullman and the start of Lyra‘s journey. This book was also published under the title of The Golden Compass. Definitely divine!

It‘s a celebration of the sad & beautiful moments that take you from childhood to being an adult. The adventure is captivating and the theme of institutional power unchecked resonates. Lyra uncovers mysteries around her while navigating her way towards being the adult her world needs.

I didn't read this as a kid and maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had. Although I don't understand why this is considered a children's book...
It was a little too technical for me, the story felt very slow, too much of political banter and there were no funny moments in this book...
I have bigger expectations for Book Two ;) Now - watching it on screen 🎬

I still quite like this book even reading as an adult which is nice to learn. It is still just as dark as I remember but also like? More overtly religious. It‘s not that I remember it as less religious I just thought it was slightly more subtle and it is decidedly not.
Still baffles me that this book is considered 9-12 though
