Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding
Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding | Alexandra Bracken
From #1 New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken comes a "devious and delightful" tale of betrayal and revenge. *"An infectious, entertaining series starter. Clever, occasionally frightening, and always fun, this will hook plenty." -Booklist, starred review*"Bracken's cast is drawn in loving detail, and her twisty plot will keep readers guessing." -Publishers Weekly, starred review"I would say it's a pleasure to meet thee, Prosperity Oceanus Redding, but truly, I only anticipate the delights of destroying thy happiness ."Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history-that is, until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper's great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made-and then broke-a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, eight-hundred-year-old Alastor isn't exactly the forgiving type. The fiend has reawakened with one purpose--to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts to trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his afterlife without a side of eternal servitude, thanks. But with the help of his long-lost uncle, Barnabas, and his daughter, Nell, a witch-in-training, it seems like Prosper has at least a fighting chance of ridding himself of Alastor before the demon escapes and wreaks havoc on his family. Little does Prosper know, the malefactor's control over his body grows stronger with each passing night and there's a lot Alastor isn't telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host From #1 New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken comes a tale of betrayal and revenge, of old hurts passed down from generation to generation. Can you ever fully right a wrong, ever truly escape your history? Or will Prosper and Alastor be doomed to repeat it?

Wow, those kids were so annoying. The demon just ridiculous. I only finished this book because it was part of a challenge. Otherwise I would've DNF it latest when all those boring school lessons came up. Nope, not a series I'm going to continue reading.

Hi everyone! I just finished listening to the audiobook. It was pretty good. I've lost a little interest of the book in the middle. The ending was pretty good. A little twist I didn't see coming. I will definitely read the next book. I recommend the audiobook the voice of the fox is pretty great! #litsy #kindle #kindlefire #paperwhite #library #bookgeek #booklover

So this is one of my favourite books of the year easily! Holy crap this was funny! If you've ever watched A Very Potter Musical with Voldemort and Quirrel + seen Hocus Pocus...the vibes you'll get from this are insane! It's so enjoyable. The characters are great and there's a massive twist at the end. I don't know who's good anymore!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ - The story and plot were fun, but a lot of the humor just wasn‘t for me. (Which makes sense - this is a middle-grade novel.) I do want to know what happens, so more than likely will be picking up the sequel when it comes out.

[#BookReview] The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken. This book is the perfect book to read for Halloween. It‘s got a spooky plot, great characters, and an autumnal atmosphere. I definitely plan on not only buying this book for my collection but I also plan on reading the sequel when it releases early 2019! 📖🦊

I was initially drawn to the cover, and then after reading the summary, I thought this book sounded perfect for me. Upon reading half the book, I thought maybe I wasn't in the mood for middle-grade novels right now, because I prefer my books to be meatier, more in-depth. However as I continued reading, I got more into the story, and now I'm looking forward to the next book in the series! See my full review at acrossthelibrary.com

Maybe it was true that we never really escape our histories. That revenge is a poison that stays in the hearts of families, reborn with each generation. I was nothing like my family, or this curse, but I couldn't run away from them.

Fantastic book title & a perfect story for this time of year. Seriously, this book is best read at Halloween-Thanksgiving time, when the skies are a leaden gray, the wind rustles the dead leaves & it‘s dark by 4:30. Prosper Redding is the only unexceptional member of the Redding family which, it turns out, owes its prosperity to a deal with a fiend. That fiend is now inside Prosper & he wants out & is causing loads of trouble. A fun MG read.

Confession—I would read this for the title alone. That being said, I‘m Interested to see what Bracken, an established YA author, does with MG. Always looking for great books to recommend to young readers.

Today's #BookMail was definitely appropriate for the season, Halloween is tomorrow & this tale of broken bargains with demons sounds perfect for a spooky night read. Prosper is living an ordinary life until he finds that a demon is trying to possess him. Turns out his many greats grandfather made a contract with the demon & then broke it. Now Alastor the fiend wants to destroy the Redding family, and he's going to use Prosper to get his revenge.😈

This book was just the Halloween fun I was looking for! Prosper has a demon that‘s ancient and funny too. He meets Nell and his uncle and drama ensues. It‘s a MG so it‘s a fast easy read and the fantasy element kept me excited. The only thing I really don‘t like was the cliffhanger ending but I won‘t mind picking up the sequel. Prosper was such an easy character to get attached too, he‘s just so good inside. I loved it. 🐺😈🎃👻🖤

I really enjoyed this book. The writing is really good as always for Bracken. The world building was amazing. The plot kept me hooked the whole way though! I enjoyed Prosper but didn‘t like Nell or Uncle B as much. Al was a ‘bad guy‘ but also kinda sarcastic and sassy and I loved it! Great start to a new middle grade series! I need book 2 right now!
