This one doesn‘t make much sense. Someone gets killed, but I didn‘t really know why. A lot about nazis & anarchists trying to take over the world. Fat-phobia for several pages. A lot of long convos. There‘s a good reason this hasn‘t been adapted to a show or movie. Maybe the physical copy would make more sense but don‘t think so based on GR reviews. Gave it 2 stars partly because of fat-phobia.

LiteraryinPA I love Christie but I totally agree! This is not a good one. 😋 1y

I don‘t need for an Agatha Christie book to have murder, Poirot, or Miss Marple to like it, but one of those things might have helped. The plot is boring and convoluted, there‘s too much preaching about politics, and there‘s a possibility that Hitler may have survived and had a son. We also lose track of the mc for quite some time, and he‘s brought back in a clumsy manner. Hugh Fraser‘s excellent narration makes it a so-so instead of a pan.

TheAromaofBooks It felt like this was more of a dystopian novel than anything else. I remember when I read it that Christie's foreword helped me appreciate what she was attempting, even if I felt like the story came through has choppy - not her best work, but I still found parts of it intriguing. 4y
LiteraryinPA I agree. This is one of the only books of hers that I have no interest in rereading. 4y
KathyWheeler @TheAromaofBooks This version didn‘t have that forward. I felt like she was using this book to take pot shots at young people and try to make them look stupid for wanting a better world. 4y
KathyWheeler @LiteraryinLititz I couldn‘t imagine rereading it either. 4y

Not one of Mrs. Christie‘s better books. The plot was a real stretch, and hard to follow. Thank goodness I did the audio book while doing other stuff. I might not have finished it otherwise. This hits three prompts for #pisces #readyoursign:
2 - book published in my birth year
8 - Pisces spirit color on cover (sea green)
12- written by a Virgo author

Clwojick Way to go on stacking multiple prompts with this one! 5y
azulaco @Clwojick I‘ve gotten lucky with my first two books - lots of stacking! 5y

And people ask me what really does fiction brings other than a fantasy filled with adventure. But I dare say these kind of things they bring you to a standstill to think about life and change the way you think. I don't say non fiction is bad. It is really important but fiction is also equally important.

16 hours in and I just finished reading 9 hours. Over 700 pages read and some great books! Passenger to Frankfurt is not for everyone but I really enjoyed it. It is NOT a murder mystery. It is a spy novel with lots of politics. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As much as I love Agatha Christie, I can't bring myself to like this book. There are things I like, mainly the characters, but the ending was so bad and there were so many loose-ends that I could not find joy in finishing this book. I'm glad I read it, but I'll be donating my copy to the thrift store.

Not a typical Christie. Less about detecting and more about international espionage. A consortium using violence and disruption to upset the status quo and ultimately gain power. A mid-level, but well-connected politico is drawn in by a mysterious woman who wants to use his passport. This is really just our way into the story. Intriguing, but ultimately too many balls in the air. This could have been more than one spy thriller.

Well ... I love Agatha Christie way to much but this book was not my cup of tea ? It was very boring and it took me ages to finish this one ?? Let‘s start a new book , and hopefully it‘s a good one ❤️ Ich mag die Autorin ja megaaaa gerne aber dieses Buch hat mir leider gar nicht gefallen. Es war sehr langweilig und es hat mir keinen Spaß gemacht zu lesen ? Auf zum nächsten Buch ?

Sarah83 @RebelReader where are you from? In Germany there is a trade chain called TK Maxx. I have several boxes and bought them all there 7y
RebelReader @Sarah83 I'm in the US. We have TJ Maxx here, but no TK Maxx. 7y
Sarah83 @RebelReader maybe you find something like that here: https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/ 7y
ju.ca.no Oooh best box ever😍😍 I want one too😍 I don't think we have TK Maxx in Austria though, I havn't heard of it before.. 7y
Sarah83 @ju.ca.no it should be mentioned, that not every store has the same products. They get things, that can't be sold in regular shops anymore. So they are often quite cheap. there seems to be some in Austria and one in Vienna at the Zehnergürtel..look here... http://www.tkmaxx.at/unsere-filialen. 7y
ju.ca.no @Sarah83 ah okay! Thanks for looking it up, I will go there soon to check it out 😊 7y

Now, to continue my lazy Sunday reading, I will have to decide which lovely new book to tackle from my TBR pile! Joy📚

#bookmail #bookhaul Book Outlet edition. I picked up something for my #halloweengoespostal match (not pictured) and picked up a few things for myself too.

To my secret Santa...I missed putting some of my recent purchases into LibraryThing. I'm adding them as quickly as I can. If you duplicate something, no worries! I will absolutely adore anything. 😊 #fallbookexchange

LiteraryinPA I think we have similar tastes! I've read and enjoyed all the Agathas pictured (especially Rye) and I also loved Eligible! I usually stay away from Austen modernizations but this one was great. Hope you enjoy them! 7y
Librarybelle @LiteraryinLititz That's great! Eligible was on a lot of must read lists, and at a bargain price, I couldn't resist. I love Christie! These will all be first time reads, except Roger Ackroyd. 7y

Having read this before, maybe it's that I already know what happens, but I found myself skimming just to get back to actual dialogue. There were the similar themes and subjects covered as in her other spy novels (which I enjoy), but in this one I found them to be dwelled on ... too much. The various world leaders/politicians discoursed at length about unrest, the status of the world, where money is coming and going, psychology etc. Tiring.

Agatha has gone completely banana pants with this one.

But I LIKED it!

Apparently, this was her 80th book, written when she was 80. And she pulled out ALL the stops. Crazy conspiracy theories? Drug and sex mad youth? A villainous Countess who could have been a prototype for Jabba the Hutt? Check, check, and check.

This is definitely the oddest Christie I've ever read, and deserves its subtitle, An Extravaganza.

rabbitprincess This one was too weird for my tastes (although I did like Aunt Matilda). Also my cover had a scary spider on it for some reason 😫 7y
Eyejaybee Sounds like this was Agatha Christie's 'White Album'! I shall definitely give it a go. 7y
Libby1 @rabbitprincess - creepy! I think Agatha fancied herself as a bit of an Aunt Matilda. What do you think? 😊 7y
Libby1 @Eyejaybee - yes, do! It is delightfully weird. 7y

I couldn't cope with it. It would look like My Precious would be about to fall.

rockpools In general I'd agree with you. But I live in a v badly-designed attic flat which has oodles of unusable space and slopey ceilings- these would be perfect! 7y
