How to Hang a Witch
How to Hang a Witch | Adriana Mather
For fans of Conversion and Mean Girls, comes a debut novel where the trials of high school start to feel like a modern day witch hunt for a teen with all the wrong connections to Salems past. Salem, Massachusetts is the site of the infamous witch trials and the new home of Samantha Mather. Recently transplanted from New York City, Sam and her stepmother are not exactly welcomed with open arms. Sam is the descendant of Cotton Mather, one of the men responsible for those trials and almost immediately, she becomes the enemy of a group of girls who call themselves The Descendants. And guess who their ancestors were? If dealing with that weren't enough, Sam also comes face to face with a real live (well technically dead) ghost. A handsome, angry ghost who wants Sam to stop touching his stuff. But soon Sam discovers she is at the center of a centuries old curse affecting anyone with ties to the trials. Sam must come to terms with the ghost and find a way to work with the Descendants to stop a deadly cycle that has been going on since the first accused witch was hanged. If any town should have learned its lesson, it's Salem. But history may be about to repeat itself. From the Hardcover edition.

A well crafted story by a descendant of Cotton Mather, who is also the magic character in the book, of the Salem Witch Trials and their modern day effect. Sam Mather finds herself in Salem, after her father goes into a coma, and discovers a link to between deaths of descendants of the families involved in the trials. She makes a tenuous alliance with members of witch descendants after realizing they're all in danger. *more below*

IamIamIam This hovered between pick and so-so because it is extremely YA, so flawless girls, drop dead gorgeous guys and an extremely odd romance element. After continual eye rolling from me, I noticed that the story got better and was heavy on historical notes and the descriptions of New England were really well done. I didn't hate it by the end but I prefer more mature YA. I'm too far removed from high school to get a lot out of that aspect! 2d

Got this out of the library & it's painfully YA. Kind of like Twilight but with witches. I was interested because the author is a descendant of Cotton Mather, as is her main character 🙄, but after 5 chapters I'm not sure I'll make it all the way through.

Salem, witches, ghosts, and a curse! This is a fun YA book and I enjoyed every minute of it. There is a lot of history in this book and it was written by a descendant of Cotton Mather. I immediately started the second one after finishing it. Great book to read in October.

This was much better than I expected it to be! Some definite YA tropes, but the writing was solid, and the plot made it hard to put down. Great for this time of year, witches and curses and ghosts, oh my! A real page turner and good witchy fun! I‘m looking forward to the sequel!

When Sam Mather moves to Salem the Descendents, a group of mean teens directly descended from the trial victims set out to make her life hell. She quickly learns that the past is not just the past & things are not what they seem. When people start dying the finger is pointed at Sam & mass hysteria ensues. History is repeating itself & this time a Mather will hang. Spooky, witchy and atmospheric!

I have some thoughts about this one. It was very entertaining and I loved the bits of actually history thrown in. Witches and Salem and magic, what more could a girl ask for? However, it wasn't very well written. It was fairly cheesy at times. But I can absolutely overlook that because it was su h a fun read. I'd recommend this if you are looking for a fun, easy read during this spooky, witchy season.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was definitely different, wasn‘t your typical set in Salem witchy book. There is a lot of bullying to Sam as soon as she gets into town. It‘s a little tough to read because they‘re so brutal to her and immediately out to get her. Reading the authors note (which I typically don‘t do) made me feel a little better about it. I‘m also not a big fan on contemporary YA, which I need to remember. ⬇️

Laughterhp I hate the way kids talk nowadays, or at least how it‘s portrayed in books. I get that it‘s supposed to be authentic, but it‘s really annoying to me. Like she uses the word “vom”. I wasn‘t surprised by the ending and who the bad guy was. When it was revealed, I was kind of like, oh okay and wasn‘t shocked. 13mo

I wanted to post about a YA book for the Sabrina prompt. She was by far my favorite witch growing up. This book takes place in high school and is witchy, but that‘s where the similarities end. There are far worse consequences than spilling chocolate milk down your rival‘s shirt at lunch.

I tore through this book last year. I don‘t remember all of the details, just that I didn‘t want to put it down!
