Normally, I don‘t pay particular attention to History Months, but this year I want to engage in some way with Black HM. So I perused my TBR and I think I have found the best way I can personally engage: Mandela‘s autobiography.

Already a few chapters in and I know it was the right choice. Perhaps (don‘t hold me to this) I will make it a theme for this year.

Funny how tr**mp‘s attempts to stifle history has made me want to do the opposite 🤔

This #chunkster #nonfictionread should be required reading for all! So much to learn and understand. Whilst there are a few dry moments overall I found this to be a very consuming read. From learning about his childhood all the way through his struggles and arrest and how this touched him after. I learned so much.

I enjoyed watching these geese cross the parking lot because every car patiently waited for them. 🥰

This little bit of joy refills my hope in humanity as I read the tagged book. So much I didn‘t know about Nelson Mandela.

In the first half, I found his personal life more interesting than his work/political life. But the second half really picked up for me. I found his time as a prisoner the most interesting part of the book. He (and the other political prisoners) managed to continue to fight as much as they could from within the prison walls. He really was an amazing man, but sadly his family life suffered for everything he did for the people of South Africa

This is a comprehensive autobiography that covers Mandela‘s life from birth to his presidency of South Africa. I was drawn to this book as I wanted to know more about his incarceration; why he was unjustly confined and how he survived 27 years in custody. My curiosities were satisfied and I gained significantly more knowledge about Mandela and how he fought for human rights and racial equality.

A fascinating, detailed book about Mandela‘s struggle for freedom- both personal and political.
I didn‘t know much of his life pre-release from jail really. This helped fill in those gaps.
A man that sacrificed everything (including any chance of a normal family life) to try and make things better for millions of others.

I‘m 80% into LONG WALK TO FREEDOM after my #audiowalk. It‘s an important, inspiring, and thorough work, but that very thoroughness weighs down the narrative somewhat. Still, it‘s filled in a lot of historical gaps for me. I‘m really glad I‘m reading it.

I pickled a bunch of banana peppers and chopped a huge amount of chard while I started Nelson Mandela‘s autobiography. This one‘s gonna be good. #audiocooking

I live in an impoverished and rural area. When NC schools were closed, locally owned restaurants decided that no child will go hungry. They offered healthy meals for our children. I'm so proud of my little community.

After listening to the book for 27 hours I don‘t know if I should be happy or sad, so I choose hopeful! Even though I knew most of the events in this book from before, it is different hearing about it at once and from Mandela himself. He really made a great impact, admitted that he was imperfect and always knew there was a lot more to be done. Most people would lose hope during 27 years in prison, not Mandela. I enjoyed the book!

This was a long but informative book. It was fascinating to hear Nelson Mandela‘s story in largely his own words—though I will say that if I‘d read the book rather than listened to the audio, I think it would have taken me much longer to read it! Overall, an excellent account of an influential historical figure.

I listened to this on audiobook and i was amazed and blown away by how inspiring this story is. The intergration of African Language and Music made the story beautifully rich and deep.

This story gives hope that the fight against white supremacist culture can be won and it can be dismantled to ensure that POC have equal access to the same resources and rights and oppurtunities as everyone else.

I finally finished this beautiful book. It took me awhile since I had a bunch of library books that became available from my wait list, which I of course had to finish because I did not want to wait another 10 weeks (!!). Anyway, I absolutely loved this autobiography. It read like fiction to me and really enjoyed learning about this very important story. This really should be required reading for all.

All I need in life. Nelson Mandela endured so much to make sure that South Africans could have the peaceful life that I am enjoying right now. His sacrifices and determination give me hope that there are always good people in the world, even when the US government seems to be in flames constantly.

Slowly but surely working my way through this inspiring read. It should be required reading for every person in the world. It‘s rained ALL day. It‘s cold. My hubs is helping fix FL. Just me and the kids and all the books we can read and movies we can watch for who knows how long.... 👯‍♀️🌧🗺📺📚

Reading this was emotional and humbling. There‘s nothing I can say about this book that hasn‘t already been said, but it affected me deeply. I feel honored to be able to have read the words of such an incredible man. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
