I really enjoyed this book but it wasn‘t as twisty and unpredictable as I was led to believe. I had the overall story figured out pretty early but I still liked all the details and the psychological manipulation. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

PerksOfBeingABookworm I agree! Not a lot of twists, but the emotional manipulation was fascinating. I thought the ending fell a little flat though. 1w
TamTracy @PerksOfBeingABookworm Yeah I think the ending could have been a little more exciting. 1w

It wasnt the best nor the worst. I enjoyed the 2nd person perspective that the authors incorporated. By 60%, it kind of started to drag and I wasn't shocked or excited about the ending.

This was a very compelling story. I couldn‘t help but compare Dr. Shields to Rene Zellwegger‘s character from What/If. This story was not as shocking as The Wife Between Us, but it was still a page turner.

Last book of 2019. Finished with a couple hours to spare (west coast time zone, for the win!).

This was an enjoyable read. Nothing earth shattering and I would probably recommend other things over it. But it was a quick read and I enjoyed it.

This one had an interesting premise and a solid start, but the end of the book fell extremely flat for me!

"Every lifetime contains pivot points ... that shape and eventually cement one's path. These moments, as unique to each individual as strands of DNA, can at their best cause the sensation of a catapult into the shimmer of stars. At the opposite extreme, they can feel like a descent into quicksand."

Stacypatrice @ljuliel - Yes, it was a library book! And when I just returned it and let staff know not to return it to the shelf so it doesn‘t happen to someone else, she says, “Next time you‘re checking out, maybe flip through the pages and check for something like this!” I replied, “I‘m not flipping through every book looking for possible ripped out pages!!” 🤦🏻‍♀️ 1mo

marleed That‘s so wrong. Three of my sisters and 2 grown nephews worked all Christmas Day on their first jigsaw puzzle (from me!). They completed it with an extra piece. I‘ll let them know that piece belongs to you :) 1mo
ljuliel Good grief. That sounds like our pharmacy when they don‘t refill our prescriptions for the correct number of days. They tell me it‘s MY job to check each prescription before leaving the store. Number 1- it‘s a pharmacy. They should make sure they‘re dispensing the proper amounts. Number 2- it‘s a bit inconvenient to hold up the line so I can check all 10 prescriptions . Lazy people, not doing their jobs, but making the customer do it for them ! 1mo
Stacypatrice @ljuliel - I am picturing you saying to the pharmacist, “Let me check!!” before paying, plopping down on the floor surrounded by pill bottles and slowly counting, “1...2...3...” As the line of people start losing their mind behind you, you‘re pointing at the pharmacist, “He told me to count each one before I left!” 1mo

I gave it 150 pages ... and I‘m bailing. Story line is ok , characters & writing .... not for me. Some of the images are cringe-worthy ... my mind was ‘spinning like a washing machine‘... 🤦🏻‍♀️
Definitely potential in the plot .. I almost kept going to see what happened next , but I couldn‘t.... 🤷🏻‍♀️

ljuliel You‘ve got more patience than me. If a book isn‘t catching my attention by the first few pages or chapters, I usually toss it and move on. Too many other books waiting for a turn. 🙂 3mo

This thriller kept me awake half the night. Not because it was so scary that I couldn't sleep, but because I couldn't stop reading. The story of Jess, who as a client comes under the spell of the perfect and mysterious psychiatrist Doctor Shields, is filled with twists that kept me guessing until the end. Recommended!

I listened to this thriller about a woman who joins a research study to earn some extra money and gets involved in the researcher's marriage. It was engaging and not entirely obvious. the characters were not likable, and the ending wasn't satisfying. There was a lot of book for a little story.

Well-written and addictive! An Anonymous Girl has now become the best book I‘ve read so far, overtaking The Farm. The characters are so deeply explored and at points you feel like you‘ve been pulled into their world. There is a twist and turn at every flip of a page, you think you understand it all- think it‘s all figured out- and then there‘s a spanner thrown in the works and then a spanner thrown at the spanner. A must read. A work of art.

So, I‘m not even half way in and I‘m not sure I can take it anymore. Maybe it‘s the audio but...no, pretty sure it‘s just the story. The whole thing seems so ridiculous. The audio is pretty rough, too, though. Jess‘s POV narration I can take but Dr. Shields? Who even speaks like that?

mcipher OMG the Dr. Shields sections drove me CRAZY. I didn‘t do audio but I totally agree. 5mo

"A secret is a secret if one person holds it"

Jessica signs up for a psychology survey on ethics and morality by Dr. Shields for want of some quick cash. The questions are basic at first, until it starts getting too real and personal. Soon the sessions turn into practical outings and eventually she starts confusing reality with set up scenarios which Dr. Shields has orchestrated and her paranoia grows.

Mistake? Is it voicemail or voice mail ??

Pruzy Apparently voice mail is an out of date spelling. Like e-mail vs email. https://grammarist.com/spelling/voicemail/ 5mo
BookNAround Merriam Webster says voice mail is correct but other sources say voicemail or both are fine so it depends on what source the author or editor is using as their authority. (edited) 5mo
DrexEdit Chicago manual just endorsed website as one word in their last edition so voicemail may be headed the same way eventually. 5mo
Bklover This is a pretty recent book so I‘d think it would be voicemail. 5mo

Mistake? should it be "such as A Hermes logo..."

BookNAround Depends how you pronounce Hermès. If it‘s air-maiz (approximate phonetics since I don‘t know where all the symbols are on my keyboard), the article is correct as printed. If you voice the H, it‘s not. 5mo
umbrellagirl @BookNAround what she said ^^ it‘s based on the French pronunciation so no H sound. 5mo

This was a fast-paced, twisted psychological thriller and I devoured it in just a few hours. It kept my interest from the first page until the last. It is the perfect book to read on a lazy summer day. The villain is deliciously evil, but I found the other main characters to be pretty unlikable as well. It was difficult to cheer for the heroine when she was such a crappy human being herself. The plot was cleverly devised and adequately executed.
