This one has been on my TBR forever so I‘m glad I got the motivation to read it. Set in a gritty Victorian-era London, it centers around the Scotland Yard Murder Squad and involves a couple of gruesome murders of Yard detectives. While there are a good cast here, the leads are especially compelling…Inspector Day, new to London; Constable Hammersmith, tireless and dedicated; and Dr. Kingsley, London‘s first forensic pathologist, sharp and fun 🔻
I'm joining @Andrew65 and sharing some of my favorite series.
Day 5: Scotland Yard's Murder Squad (completed for now)
This series focuses on Walter Day & Neville Hammersmith, 2 of the twelve-man team known as the Scotland Yard Murder Squad. It's 1889 and they are going after some of London's most heinous criminals, including "Saucy Jack". Quick reads with good suspense, there is room for more books in the future.

I really enjoyed this book and now it‘s on sale today!
I‘ve had this book on my shelf for years. Sadly I was so bored by the entire thing I gave up after 100 pages. I didn‘t care about any of the characters. I think the author was trying to be clever by introducing the murderer‘s perspective but it made me lose interest even more.
I was very intrigued by this book. As many of you know, I am a huge fan of historical fiction. The Yard, (named after the Scotland Yard) takes place right after Jack the Ripper has just finished his vile rampage of London in the late 1800's. Whitechapel, is a place of caution and fear. Many blame the police, who failed to apprehend The Ripper... So, when this story blends perfectly with the facts of that era. I enjoyed it!
Happy Reading!
Just starting this murder mystery. It is grisly and I‘m not sure how I feel about it yet!

Book: The Yard by Alex Grecian - highly recommend if you like historical mysteries
Author: Gene Luen Yang (Boxers&Saints graphic novel) - I recommend this too
Movie: Young Frankenstein - watched this last Halloween, almost died with laughter 😂
Food: yogurt - I especially like “apple crisp twist” from Chobani
I hope everyone had a fabulous day! 📚❤️🥰
This is a riveting first book of a series: Scotland Yard‘s Murder Squad! Set shortly after Jack the Ripper stopped his murderous spree, this story follows the London police trying to solve a new kind of murder introduced by Jack: serial. Contains nuanced characters whom you grow to care for and complex story lines. I will have to read the whole series now. 4-1/2 stars, maybe 5. And I finished #LitsyAtoZ with this book!!
I have terrible insomnia—awake several hours every night. Which translates to reading time. So to improve my chances of finishing #LitsyAtoZ this year, I bought my last book on Kindle even though I started with the paperback. I‘m just able to read a few pages before I go to bed. But when I wake up at 2 am I can spend hours reading it on my Kindle app on my phone. Here‘s to spending an extra $7 to beat this challenge!! I hope this works!
I‘m trying so hard to finish my Y book for #LitsyAtoZ this year. 364 pages to go—an eternity for a slow reader like me. You can still sign up, thanks to @BookishMarginalia here:

And you can read how she started this marvelous challenge!
This is it! Starting the last book in my #LitsyAtoZ challenge. I‘m a very slow reader so I really hope I can get it finished
On our way to Offspring's nuptials and enjoying my second listen of this book. It's my husband's first listen.
Just put these CDs on hold at the library. Hubs and I have a long drive ahead of us and he's never listened to it. It's a repeat for me. It was #myfirstaudiobook. It's great.
I‘m on week two of vacation on the west coast visiting my family...one of the perks is this adorable reading buddy 🖤
I finally read the first book in this Scotland Yard murder mystery series. It‘s only been on my TBR since publication. 🤫 There‘s lots of characters and mysteries to be solved set in the Victorian era of Jack the Ripper. Looking forward to reading the next installment.
Yay for books about Scotland Yard!!! I loved this #FreakyFriday pick! I loved how the story came together in the end, and Dr. Kingsley has joined the list of favorite sassy medical examiners. (Not sure sassy is the right word, but I haven‘t had coffee yet). I will definitely read more from Alex Grecian!
Late to the game but what the hell!
📚 A Tale Dark and Grimm, which I just finished reading the other day.
📚 I live in an apartment with no space to garden but I do treat myself to flowers twice a month.
📚 It was either John Mayer or Dick Dale in concert. They were days apart.
📚 I've read all of Alex Grecian's novels, but none of the comics/graphic novels. Perhaps I should.

Out of my mind! I have a few Netgalley's ARCs, current TBR pile on my shelves and still I can't stop myself from hauling these books from library! I do not exercise any self-control when I'm surrounded by books 😐
#noselfcontrol #nowillpower #notenoughbooks
I started this one over the weekend, but my library loan ran out and it automatically returned before I could get very far. But I was enjoying it so much that I bought a copy! So excited it arrived today so I can get back to the story!!!

I‘m more than a little obsessed with Victorian murder mysteries lately. Starting this series next. 🔪🔪⚰️⚰️
I absolutely loved this book, and the whole series! The characters are so lovable, and the author maintains a level of suspense throughout so that you can't put it down. If a rather dark and sinister trip to Victorian London appeals to you, this will not disappoint!
Mystery is one of my favorite genres, especially if it's a #historicalmystery. The majority of the books I own fall into #mystery so I picked a book I don't think I have posted about before. I have only read book 1 but I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series. The main character reminds me a lot of Matthew MacFadyen in Ripper Street (at least in my imagination he does). #itsallamystery #sizzlinsummerbooks
All the interwoven threads through this book were rather interesting. However, there wasn't exactly a "mystery", since all the information is given to you. Personally, I would prefer having some information held back. Overall, it was an ok read. I might give the next one a try, as I hear it is part of a series.
Looks like we're off to an interesting start! #currentlyreading #wishthedeceaseddidntsharemykidsname
Today's #libraryhaul! I have been on the hold queue for Rebecca for months now, so it's going to be #nextup. The Yard was an impulse pick up. Not sure if I'll like it, but it piqued my interest and Little Man was getting impatient with my browsing. Not pictured: the 6 superhero books that Little Man picked out, and the season 1 DVDs of Babylon 5 for my husband. #librarylove #nslittens
It took me about a third of this to get into it, but once I did, it was captivating. There are intertwining plot twists & a lot of characters to keep straight. This is a great book. It seems to be a series so I'll have to see what happens next! #LitsyAtoZ #LetterY
It took me a while to read this book, partly because I didn't get into it right away. Also, I'm used to murder mysteries where you don't know who the killer is until the end. This book reveals it right away, but you then go on the journey to see how the detectives will find the murderer. I rather liked the characters in the book and already have the second book. I look forward to seeing how the characters develop.
Pleasantly surprised by this author's first venture into novels. The book is set in London and newly formed Scotland Yard has suffered bad PR due to their inability to catch Saucy Jack. Fledgling detective, Walter Day, is baptized under fire when he is assigned the murder of a fellow detective. Several stories are woven together into this mystery to create a page turning read. I look forward to Grecian's next book featuring Inspector Day.
I loved the characters. I loved the going back in time to see an earlier time in the policeman's lives. To see how they came to be members of the "Murder Squad". The policemen themselves were interesting enough, but when you added the background stories they became larger than life. I really loved to see the bits of their past that motivates them in the pursuit of justice.
A great police procedural set right after Jack the Ripper. A bit gory, but wonderfully thought out characters. Especially glad to see strong female characters in a period piece.
#firsteverlitsypost #booktober @RealLifeReading I've only been here 2 weeks? Wow.🙎 I'm already obsessed!
Evidence that we raised our kids right. Staying with our son and DIL tonight before we fly out tomorrow. Their living room has been turned into a library. This is what @Ambrosnazzy and her husband need when they get a house. And, of course, in this library is a copy of the book my husband bought for the trip!
My sister just tore through all five books in this series, so I read this one on her recommendation. It's about 125 pages too long, and I'm not a fan of mysteries where you're told who the killer is upfront. But it moves, and Dr. Kingsley's early forensic science was fun.
