40 down, 1 to go in 2022 first reading of Discworld series via library availability! I remain in awe of Pratchett's wellspring of compassion, empathy and hope. His characters are human first, they make mistakes, but they remember or are reminded to THINK, see another perspective; the reader is brought along for the journey, and that makes all the difference. Aching is 2nd only to Vimes for me. Feegles remain a delight. Loved animal symbolism. 🐇
Anti-witch sentiment is growing in Tiffany‘s home of the Chalk & the Disc in general. It‘s a witch‘s job to do the messy work that needs doing, so it‘s up to Tiffany to defeat the power behind the hate.
Well, damn. This was rough. It‘s a darker book than previous Tiffany books, but still with Pratchett‘s ever present hope. Hope for change, progress, & kindness. It‘s also a constant lesson on self care when you‘re shouldering the world. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

This cover is kinda rude to this great book, and really quite rude to the Nac Mac Feegle, who I think are really great in this book! Also great: Nanny at the funeral, Mrs. Proust, seeing Esk again, the ending. (Sidebar: shocked there's another Tiffany book after that lovely bow of a final chapter.)

Managing to hop onto the #OokBOokClub pick at almost the last second and this book? This book gets instantly grim in chapter two! Real yikes hours!
1. Finishing up a book called Basali! for #readingafrica2022.
2. I like both, but don't read much in either format.
3. I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett.

I‘ve been scarce in Litsy for a few months, but the reasons no longer exist. I‘m excited to get back into reading and this seems like the perfect opportunity. I‘m going to be a bit ambitious. As long as I make ONE of the goals, I‘ll be happy.
1. Finish Paladin (Sarah Woodbury)
2. Catch up with Tiffany Aching (Wintersmith & I Shall Wear Midnight)
3. Start the Black Dagger Brotherhood audiobooks (a reread of the first 6-7 books, but first listen)
#OokBOokClub
Just a friendly reminder that next month we'll be reading #IShallWearMidnight! Dig out your books, put in your library holds, or place your orders! The next Discworld adventure continues on April 8th! Woohoo!
If anyone wants to be tagged/untagged for future posts please let me know! Happy to oblige!

I‘m done with book 4 in the Tiffany Aching series. I love these audiobooks and the narrator is fabulous as always. It‘s been suggested that I hold off on reading the last TA book until I read the Witches series. So that‘s where I‘m headed next. 4⭐️

“The black dress of the average witch was usually only theoretically black. In reality, it was often rather dusty, and quite possibly patched in the vicinity of the knees and somewhat ragged at the hem and, of course, very nearly worn through by frequent washings. It was what it was: working clothes.” #patch #QuotsyMay21 #QuotsyCatchup

That was the thing about thoughts. They thought themselves, and then dropped into your head in the hope that you would think so too.
“She had heard it said that, before you could understand anybody, you needed to #walk a mile in their shoes, which did not make a whole lot of sense, because probably AFTER you had walked a mile in their shoes, you would understand that they were chasing you and accusing you of the theft of a pair of shoes--although, of course, you could probably outrun them, owing to their lack of footwear.” #QuotsyApr20
“They know that people need witches; they need the unofficial people who understand the difference between right and wrong, and when right is
wrong and when wrong is right. The world needs the people who work around the edges. They need the people who can deal with the little bumps and inconveniences. And little problems. After all, we are almost all human. Almost all of the time.” #Inconvenience #QuotsyFeb20
Books 85-89, audio.
I failed on my logging again. I finished out my Discworld Binge with:
I Shall Wear Midnight
Snuff
Raising Steam
and Shepherd's Crown.
I also finished off Lemony Snicket's Slippery Slope. I'm really ready to be done with this series.
Hard to write a summary, as there were a few different things going on. Overall, I liked the book, though some parts were better than others. I found Amber‘s storyline interesting, as well as when Roland‘s fiancee, Letitia, appears – I liked her, too. There were parts that I didn‘t find quite as interesting, but overall, it was enjoyable
The poltergeist of a witch burner is stalking Tiffany and affecting the people around her. She must defeat the creature while covering her usual duties and dealing with personal issues. I always enjoy reading Tiffany's books, and I'm almost through the Discworld series.
#BookishBingo: Reread
First time reading on the beach since I moved to San Diego a few months ago.
Book 10 of the year finished Jan 28, Audio.
This one is hard to rate. It is by far the darkest of the Discworld novels, it's really not very happy at all. Lots of death (no Death, sadly) abuse, murder, lies, jumping to conclusions, and consequences from past actions.
I will give it a so-so for now, if only because I feel like this is the kind of book that requires some meditation once it's over before deciding exactly how you feel about it.
I wonder if these final books would be so bittersweet I didn't know I was so close to the end of Sir Terry's creation? Are they getting sadder or am I just sad that there's only one book left? Another wonderful installment for Tiffany who is growing into her role as the witch of the Chalk. This time she faces a shade that hates witches and passes that hate to others. There are some truly dark moments here but the writing is full of wisdom and wit.

A bit late with my February reading summary... and a bit lazy, with a little Post-it note list!
10 total: 1 adult fiction, 3 YA fantasy/fairy tale, 2 children‘s fantasy, 1 nonfiction, 3 comics
5 print, 2 audio, 3 ebook
3 TBR, 5 library, 2 re-reads
Favorite: I Shall Wear Midnight (I 💜 Tiffany Aching!)
Least favorite: The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper (Just not well-written. A Man Called Ove did a better job with a similar idea)
“It is important that we know where we come from. Because if you do not know where you come from, then you don‘t know where you are. And if you don‘t know where you are, then you don‘t know where you‘re going, and if you don‘t know where you‘re going, then you‘re probably going wrong.”
(I may or may not have just discovered and become obsessed with Typorama.)
There have been times lately when I dearly wished I that could change the past. Well, I can‘t. But I can change the present so that when it becomes the past, it will turn out to be a past worth having.
Your power is only rumor and lies. You bore your way into people when they are uncertain and weak and worried and frightened, and they think their enemy is other people when their enemy is, and always will be you—the master of lies. Outside you are fearsome; inside, you are nothing but weakness.
“Once a man gets a Feegle up his troosers, his time of trial & tribulation is only just beginning.”
...
“There was never such a screaming and rushing about and stamping on the ground and pitiable sobbing, the like of which was never before heard, along with the coarse tittering of the ladies, as the men scrambled to divest themselves of troosers that were suddenly no longer their friends, if ye ken what I‘m saying.”

She had heard talk of the library at Unseen University—of the soulful books all pressed together in space and time so that at night, it was said, they spoke to one another and a kind of lightning flashed from book to book. Too many books in one place—who knew what they could do?
The room was full of bookcases, and the books on them gleamed. These weren‘t cheap modern books. These were books bound in leather, and not just leather, but leather from clever cows who had given their lives for literature after a happy existence in the very best pastures.

“Ye will bring tae mind, brother o‘ mine, that there was times when ye should stick your head up a duck‘s bottom rather than talk?”
Daft Wullie looked down at his feet. “Sorry, Rob, I couldna find a duck just noo.”
I‘m going back through all the quotes I bookmarked while reading I Shall Wear Midnight... and there are some gems. 😂

Yet another wonderful Tiffany Aching book—they just get better. I love seeing Tiffany‘s growth in each next installment. A social worker friend said she thinks this volume in particular is one of the best depictions of her profession she‘s ever read. I love that. The message of standing up for those who need it, of just flat out helping others, is so strong here. All wrapped up in a great story, a strong heroine, and heaps of humor on the side.
Playing catch-up today with #AllTheBooks2017
Day 1: First book of 2017: Thunder Boy Jr.
Day 2: Shortest Read: Princess Leia
Day 3: Best Sequel: toss up here, my favorite Potter sequel or I Shall Wear Midnight.
* Strangely enough I love them for the same reason, our young characters grow up, and they come into their own...no longer just children they are in charge of their story now.
This is my favorite Tiffany Aching story so far. The theme is witchhunts, evil and misunderstandings. Both Tiffany and Pratchett are at their full power and compassion. Tiffany finds her match. I loved the full compendium of witches that show up, and run-in with the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. All of it bathed in wise-cracks and hilarious observations, as usual. A new favorite! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fantastic return to almost top form. Loved the cameos from various Discworld favourites. The end is night though which makes me sad. #read2017
Been saving the last few Pratchetts.... First new Discworld book for me in an age..... Don't wanna go to work waaaah!!
5 am start this fine Sunday and I'm soooo weary now.... But starting a few pages of this before I give in and go sleep.
I just love these books so much, great on audiobook too, so fun, so clever, and such great gems of wisdom woven right in...I highly recommend this YA series by Terry Pratchett, a sub-set within his larger Discworld, to readers of all ages. I'll be sad to finish the next and last one of this series, I'll miss Tiffany and her Wee Free Men. 💙
