Read this while on a couple train rides. One to Dover and back; one to Oxford and back. I really enjoy this series and the characters.

This was another fine book by this author. I sure hope there is another because there kind of was a cliffhanger. There is nothing like a female badass! Book 2 of this series. #SeriesLove23 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView with great liberty,

I liked this! Not quite as much as Trail of Lightning, because the pacing was much rougher for me with this one. I still enjoyed revisiting the setting and the characters. Now, where‘s book three?

Another solid book by Rebecca Roanhorse. I really enjoyed this one, I think I even liked it more than the first book. I especially loved the dynamic between the main character and the other two women. The last chapter sets up what the next book in the series will be about. Now I'm just sitting here waiting for that to be announced.

Caterina Same!! Listened to the first two in 2019 and I'm still waiting for the next one to be announced. 🥲 3y

I don‘t think this is quite as good as Trail of Lightning, but it comes pretty close. I think Roanhorse needs to work on her timing and pacing a little, but she‘s great at weaving together complex actions scenes and dynamic characters. 8/100, 5⭐ Loved this sequel! I think I liked it even more than the first one. There were even more interesting and entertaining characters, a great plot line and such believable events. This author is now an instant buy for me. I read both books on Kindle using my library app but I will be buying copies of my own to keep forever. And the ending set up the next book which now I will be very impatiently waiting for!

booksandsympathy I felt the same way. I also really loved her book Black Sun. She's definitely going to become an instant buy for me too. 3y

Maggie is back, on a search for a super-creepy locust man who has kidnapped (?) Kai. Cults and gods and brings with clan powers combine for a rollicking adventure I couldn't put down. Plus, it all happens around "Keshmish." Yes, please with the alternate holidays!

Usually, the second book isn't that good as the first one. Not here. Everything I criticized about volume one is done right here 👍

The characters have depth, the story is told with the right speed and there's so much more atmosphere. Roanhorse must've put a lot of work into her writing and she fully succeeded.

I'm happy to have continued reading and hope that the next book will be as good as this one ❤️

kyraleseberg I felt like the first had great potential but still wasn't sure if I'd continue. Great review, I think I'll give book two a shot! 5y

Bk11 of my #MarchBookHaul & #BirthdayBookHaul is the 2nd book in the Sixth World Series. The continuing adventures of Dinè monster hunter Maggie Hoskie has reviews calling it better than the 1st novel which won & was nominated for several awards. I‘m trying to avoid blurbs etc as I haven‘t started the series yet, but I have high hopes for this.

These books are such quick reads, and I usually really appreciate that in a book, but I really love these characters and want to swim around in this world with them so much more. My hopeless romantic fanfic shipper heart wants so much more romance between my sweet OTP, but while I think they'll continue to be together, I don't think Roanhorse will give me the level and amount of sweet romance I so desire, and that's okay, I guess. :)

Eyelit I‘m really glad fanart exists for this series! 5y

He stares at me at a minute, eyes narrow, before he barks a harsh laugh. 'Hospitality,' he sneers.
'I mean, they didn't bake me a pie or anything. But I got out in one piece.'
Something ugly crosses his face. 'One piece? Are you in one piece?' He lays a heavy hand across my knee. 'One need not dismember a woman to break her into pieces. I think you know that.'"

Picking up not long after the events in book one, Storm of Locusts is an equally fast-paced read full of adventure, wry humor, and fantastic mythology.

My only quibble is the publisher did a poor job with editing, at least in the e-book format. So many little grammatical mistakes. It doesn't wreck the story but it's sloppy and inexcusable for a big name publisher.

The sequel to Trail of Lightning is a fast-paced adventure in an interesting post-apocalypse world. Roanhorse refers to her creation as “a solid bitch” and dedicates this volume “to all the women who are hard to love, and to the people who love them anyway,” and part of me was very “She‘s not that bad!” But she does remind me a bit of Nyx from Hurley‘s Bel Dame Apocalypse series... so maybe she is that bad. In a good way.

So I like the post-apocalyptic world Rebecca Roanhorse has built and I obviously like the three emotionally stunted badass female protagonists who really drive this book but something just didn‘t sit this one firmly in the “love it” category for me. The final showdown felt incredibly rushed and I had questions that weren‘t remotely addressed but as book 2 in a series I guess I should have expected those things.

The second book in the Sixth World series picks up just four weeks after the climax of Trail of Lightning and finds Kai missing, apparently under the sway of the White Locust, who is stockpiling explosives. Like the first book, this one is well-paced with good action and adds to the world-building of the world after the Big Water. Even though this just came out, I can't wait for the next one. Recommended.

I‘m a fan of this series, and number 2 didn‘t disappoint.

The big flood that destroyed most of the world also gave rise to the gods & monsters of Navajo legend, & clan powers to some. Monster hunter Maggie Hoskie has survived Black Mesa, but a new monster is on the loose in Dinétah. To find the person she loves Maggie will have to team up with friends against body harvesters & a powerful cult.

Joe_Jones I loved both books in this series! I enjoyed the Native American mythology and folklore and Maggie is a great lead character. 5y

I feel odd about these books. I enjoy the use of lore and the setting, but the actual characters and story feel a bit par for the rather grim course. It's a fast read and it's great to see a set up that isn't all white people, but. Hm. I just don't love it.

Finally got my hands on the sequel in this post apocalyptic series enriched with Navajo folklore. This time, Maggie, a Diné monster hunter, comes up against an evil that takes her beyond the Wall, where she walks with gods and legends and tries to save her home from a catastrophic flood. I have an abiding affection for well written anti-heroines, so not only did this check that but it worked for
