Found this at a second hand book store!! It‘s in great condition. $8.99 well spent! 😊
This book was so so good you guys... 10/10 would recommend! I'm a huge booknerd and I literally fangirled over this book forever!
It took me a bit to warm to this story— a horse race just doesn‘t sound that interesting. And the horses come out of the ocean? Absurd. Don‘t be like me. Be better. Don‘t delay- just read it. After I flew through this book yesterday, I fell into that post-book depression. You know what I‘m talking about- when a book is good enough that you don‘t want it to be over and it lingers in your mind. That‘s the Scorpio Races. So supremely good.
I finally got around to reading it but I guess I don't understand why there was so much hype. Don't get me wrong, it's good -- a haunting magical realism love story between two folks who are entwined in the island on which they live and the lives of the horses, both land and water, which drives so much of the island's culture. A great interweaving of the bloody and brutal capaill uisce mythology into an everyday life. But I wasn't blown away.
1. This is a favorite that I reread every couple of Novembers!
2. I had a great week at work! I‘m loving my new job. 🙂
3. I had dinner with friends and kids. 3 moms + 8 kids ages 6 and under. 🤣 I was tired after and forgot to do my #friyayintro last night!
4. 3 biologically. 4 more by marriage.
5. Here I come!
Thank you for these #MoonReflections @Meaw_catlady 🌜 YOU are a true blessing! 🤗
1. I have trouble setting boundaries, but there are a handful of people in my life who always expect me to drop everything I‘m doing when they want something, yet never show consideration for me when I need something, so I‘m going to start saying “no” and limit my interactions with them.
3. Sending blessings to any Littens going through a tough time! 🙏
Okay, when I put the Thestral on top of the book in my other picture, I didn‘t know how close to the actual capall uisce I‘d get. If only Thisby was real!! I would go there in a heartbeat. This book is so good, lovely and unique, and I hope maybe one day we get a chance to see what happens after the races. A wonderful fall read, and definitely a good spooky one.

I finished my first Maggie Stiefvater book last month! This was an interesting read. Kind of a slow burn, but also intense all at once? I listened to the audiobook and the two POV characters were voiced by the same narrators as An Ember in the Ashes and they‘re sooo good! I‘m definitely interested in trying out her Raven Cycle series... maybe next year?
In the first half of the book I felt very strongly that it was going to be rated a so-so for me. It just felt very slow paced with not a lot of important events. I'm very glad that I kept with it though because The Scorpio Races ended up being more than worth it, it's a very special book and it really spoke to me. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, and it definitely turned out to be a pick for me.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book was amazing, and the ending was expectedly unexpected. Core and Dove are nothing short of brilliant and they say not one word.
I was so wrapped into this book and thought I had 34 minutes left and my Kindle tricked me and it ended 😭😭😭 All the emotions for Kate and Sean and Dove and Corr. All the characters on this lonely, wild island came to life with Maggie's deft and talented writing. I'm a sucker for strong, resilient female leads and lonely stone faced, soft hearted men co-starring. I had tears in my eyes at the final scene. 4 and a half stars!
Finally finished the Scorpio Races last night.

Book 20 of #MountTBR- I may have to check out Stiefvater‘s other books as I loved this one. I love Puck. She is a feisty and strong character. It had just the right amount of a romance and no love triangle!
#UnderdogHero - The Scorpio Races
#FeaturesaHoliday - A Redbird Christmas
#MCover70yearsold - Driving Miss Daisy
#Newin2018 - The Greatest Love Story Ever Told
#MCwithInvisibleIllness - Talking to the Dead
#SpookyRead - Dark Duets
Of course a Stiefvater book will begin with this sentence. 😂
You might think this is a Christmas haul, but no it‘s not.😜
Though I‘m very tempted to read another Stiefvater book, I think I‘m gonna start with What If It‘s Us. I like reading contemporary light romance around Christmas.
And I‘m running out of bookshelf space. 😭
Hmm if this isn't my favorite book, it's definitely close. I can't help but absolutely love every single part of this novel! The world is so whimsical: man-eating water horses that are raced every November. Sean and Puck, the main characters, have such chemistry. I love their individual plots and their plot together!
The audiobook is a great way to read it, all the music heard is composed and performed by the author herself.
I think I am going to shelf this and come back to it when I am in a different mood.
Because I am really bored with it. Such a disappointment because so many people love it, and I loved the Raven Cycle series, I loved All the Crooked Saints. I mean, the author said this is her favorite book she has ever written, it even got an award.
Maybe it is just me.
“It is the first day of November, and so, today, someone will die.”
I missed the deadline to sign up for Maggie Stiefvater‘s official readalong; but a few friends and I are reading it together this month! If you want to join in, read the first 16 chapters by next Thursday! 🙂 #sortascorpioread #scorpioraces
"It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die."
These are the first words I ever read from someone who would become my favorite author. I have had the absolute joy of listening to Maggie talk and meeting her twice. I will always celebrate this book on this day because it is amazing and I need something after saying goodbye to my favorite month and holiday.
I saw the capaill uisce today, nbd. It‘s not like it was one of the coolest experiences of my life or anything. 😍🐴🌊
My husband & I just finished booking airfare & Airbnb‘s for a vacation at the end of September. 🙌🏻
We‘ll be flying to Arizona & spending 10 days on a mini road-trip. One of our first stops is in Mesa. We‘re planning to kayak & see the Salt River Wild Horses. 😍
I‘d be lying if I said this stop wasn‘t inspired by Maggie Stiefvater‘s “The Scorpio Races.” 🐴🧜♀️
One question: Should I make him call me “Puck” the whole time we‘re there or...? 😅
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Five stars!
OMG I LOVE this book! It gave me all the feels: laughter, real tears, and hope! Beautifully crafted story where each lead‘s want creates internal and external conflict, raising the stakes at each decision, and ultimately finding the real thing they were after. I‘m still living in this book! ❤️
Maggie Stiefvater has a new fan; can‘t wait to delve into her other series!
This book gave me all the feels 😭 I was crying because Puck's relationship with Dove was so beautiful and then Sean and Corr came along whose relationship just destroyed my heart completely, especially because of the ending 😭😭 the way Maggie Stiefvater describes the bond between those two and their horses is just so magical and reminded me of myself and my horse 💚

I had several hours in the car the other day and Puck and Sean kept me company the whole way. I thought the narrators did a really good job bringing the story to life. I liked that this story had little bits of magic but it didn‘t take over the story. It was more about the relationships between Puck, Sean, their horses, and families. Another book from the Audio Publisher ‘s Dinner at PLA.
I loved this book!
The Scorpio Races was an amazing read full of adventure, fun, and a little romance on the side. Maggie Stiefvater's description of each scene had incredible detail and her dry humor made me laugh constantly. I could not put this down!
