Elephants Can Remember
Elephants Can Remember | Agatha Christie
55 posts | 48 read | 25 to read
"The Ravenscrofts didn't seem that kind of person. They seemed well balanced and placid..." And yet, twelve years earlier, the husband had shot the wife, and then himselfor perhaps it was the other way around, since sets of both of their fingerprints were on the gun, and the gun had fallen between them. The case haunts Ariadne Oliver, who had been a friend of the couple. The famous mystery novelist desires this real-life mystery solved, and calls upon Hercule Poirot to help her do so. Poirot is now a very old man, but his mind is as nimble and as sharp as ever and can still penetrate deep into the shadows. But as Poirot and Mrs. Oliver and Superintendent Spence reopen the long-closed case, a startling discovery awaits them. And if memory serves Poirot (and it does!), crimelike historyhas a tendency to repeat itself.

As always, I'm surprised to discover more new-to-me Christies! And I think #TryToRemember is basically how Poirot and Marple approach everyone they meet 😂 #WinterWonderland

Agatha always makes for a fun, easy, yet brain-exercising read. This is not one of her bests - she wrote it in 1972, when she was 82. While I enjoyed the mystery, and figured it out too, I felt that the romantic tragedy, the motivations, governesses, well-to-do people with estates, belonged to a different era, and found it overly melodramatic. I did enjoy that she write herself into the book as Mrs. Oliver, though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

MommyWantsToReadHerBook Yeah I remember really not liking this one and never reading it ever again 😊 1y
Gezemice @MommyWantsToReadHerBook I can‘t re-read her, once I know the solution... Luckily I have only read about 8 so I have a long way to go :) 1y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook @Gezemice maybe I just have a terrible memory 😂 but over the last 20+ years I've been able to reread quite a lot of her books without remembering who did it 😂 1y

Gezemice @MommyWantsToReadHerBook Lol! Unfortunately I usually recall the solution even if I don‘t recall anything else. I read “The Mirror Cracked From Side to Side” and did not remember a thing, except that I have seen it in a movie a long time ago and I knew what happened... it was still enjoyable but figuring it out is half the fun. 1y
rabbitprincess I love the cover art on this one! 1y
MichelleScott_author I remember when this book came out. I was right in the middle of an Agatha Christie binge read, so it was perfect timing. 1y
Gezemice @Coffeeshopreviews Awesome! I like to read her occasionally. Great break between more difficult books. 1y
Gezemice @rabbitprincess The library often has old editions with original covers. This is a first edition from 1972. Seventies covers are often the whackiest! 1y

Well written and plotted with much twist that made the book engaging. It was predictable towards the end but intriguing nevertheless! I felt that this was much better than Murder on the Orient Express

This was a unique read. It was a little confusing in the middle, but the further along I got into the story the more thought-provoking it became. And at the end was the traditional Agatha Christie twist ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #ElephantsCanRemember #AgathaChristie #HerculePoirot #HerculePoirotSeries #book #books #bookzesty #bookzilla #bookzine #bookzone #bookxcess #bookcollection #bookcollector #bookcase #bookcases #bookcover #bookcovers #bookclub 💞💞💞

Only ⭐️⭐️⭐️ , which is disappointing for an Agatha book. It was a solid read until near the end, and then it seemed rushed, as if she‘d had a deadline with her publisher.

And the cover makes no sense. There is nothing in the text about bloody keys.

Nothing.

When the typo in your book holds a truth.

“As her son”, “Asher son”.

Asher is my son‘s name. ☺️

And why, oh why do Agatha Christie books always have typos?

Another great mystery by Agatha Christie. She never disappoints. I am truly addicted to her books. In this particular story, Poirot investigates what is believed to be a double suicide. He must go back in time to unravel what happened. 👍

February's Reading Agatha book finished with one day to Spare! It was better than the previous two se read, but It was one of the last Poirot books... He's older and not quite as I remembered him. The solution of the crime was really obvious in that one 🤷

My full review can be found here, on my book blog: https://brooklynthebookworm.wordpress.com/2017/09/09/book-review-elephants-can-r... - this was a third read and honestly I don't think I'll ever tire of this mystery. I find it so haunting and heartbreaking and potent. #Poirot #bookish #bookblogger

I'm really enjoying being back to reading again, I've missed this feeling of pure content and being surrounded by a pile of books. About just over halfway through my re read of Elephants Can Remember and I'm definitely loving the mystery still. Even though I know 'whodunnit' I can't help but find I'm going over the steps again along with Ariadne. #agathachristie #bookish #booklover #crime #fiction #poirot #bookblogger #booknerd #bookgeek

• I'm getting quite far into Elephants Can Remember now but I am still no further into The Night Circus. I know I'll adore the book if I keep at it but it doesn't feel like the right time for me to be reading it. I'll not put it aside but I may leave it for a while and focus on Christie. ✨#booksofinstagram #bookstagram #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookishfeatures #met_createchange #igreads #agathachristie

@Noonlightreader and I are spirit minds in our love for many things, I think. One of these being Agatha Christie. We're buddy reading Elephants Can Remember and honestly there's such a cozy, warm feeling I get from reading Dame Agatha that I hardly get from anywhere else. I love everything about this book, even at the third or fourth read it still remains amazing. #AgathaChristie #bookish #bookworm #bibliophile #bookaddict #crime #fiction #Poirot

Sophoclessweetheart I'm enjoying it but I'm wondering what exactly is the crime in this one ✨ 2y

• Working my way through The Night Circus and Elephants Can Remember this evening and I have to admit, I think I'm slipping deeper into this post-Secret History book slump. I'm about 50 pages into my Christie and less than that into TNC and I'm trying to get hooked but I'm just not. That being said though, these are both great books✨#agathachristie #erinmorgenstern #bookstagram #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile #bookishfeatures

This book gave me a sharp and unexpected pleasure, by introducing me to a recurring Christie character I had never met before! I grew up with Miss Marple and M. Poirot; I know Tommy and Tuppence, and Parker Pyne, and even the otherworldly Harley Quin. But Ariadne Oliver - the mystery writer and friend of Poirot - is just the best. What a wonderful surprise! Elle est formidable!

Another classic from Dame Agatha. This one is one of Poirots last cases, written in 1972.Though the actual date is never mentioned,I think the story is set during the 60s.Ariadne Oliver is at a speaking engagement when a Mrs Burton-Cox accosts her and demands that she ask her goddaughter,Celia Ravenscroft, whether her father killed her mother or her mother killed her father. Not one of Poirots best, but still an enjoyable read. #christiescrimeclub
