I have to pick this book for the best series this month. The fact that Nora Roberts writes a lot of witchcraft books so for her to have this subject in this series really pulled me in. @maich

This series has really grown on me. I love Eve and Roark together. They balance each other so well. Eve is a fantastic MC and all the support characters are also so well-drawn. Reading this right after finishing the Amelia Peabody book had me wondering if Robb was giving Elizabeth Peter's heroine a nod by naming Eve's sidekick Peabody 😂

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Ch.16-20: Eve gets new leads that take her to Isis‘ lover Chaz and away from Selena Cross. His father was a killer. Better be careful Eve: the sins of the father do not make the man - you should know that better than anyone. But Eve goes after him hard. Soon all evidence is leading her to him, including a deranged killer (someone from Chaz‘ own sect) who names him as her accomplice. ⬇️

StayCurious Eve struggles with going after him - even Peabody calls her out on it and the two fight. Luckily they make up quickly even though Peabody still can‘t see that Chaz could be responsible. Soon though, Eve starts to doubt the evidence. It‘s too neat and tidy and discounts the loving relationship that Isis and Chaz share.
6mo
StayCurious While Eve is staking out Isis‘ shop, she is captured by Selena and her cult. They have plans for her, but luckily are stopped just in time. Surprising no one, they were behind everything.

This book was definitely a spooky one and would have been perfect to read around Halloween. I like the relationships between Eve and her core group. In this book they were sorely tested but they survived and are stronger for it.

Wow…this one was super creepy! But so good! Eve Dallas has to dive into the occult and has some pretty gruesome and graphic episodes. I highly recommend not reading this one while you‘re eating…yikes!

I greatly enjoy watching Eve grow as a person and coming to terms with her past. #InDeathLongReadalong

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Ch.11-15: it seems like members in Selena Cross‘ cult are dropping like flies. Eve has the wicked witch in her cross hairs but things are complicated when Feeney discovers she‘s hiding things from him. Boy their fight was painful to read and I‘m glad they made up quickly. ⬇️

StayCurious Eve also gets a tip from Nadine that Isis‘ lover Chaz has some pretty serious daddy issues - in that his father is a crazed murderer. So maybe, Eve thinks, Selena isn‘t the guilty party after all. 7mo
LiseWorks Yeah, Feeney was really hurt, which made Eve really hurt and interesting how Roarke talked to Feeney. 7mo
Librarybelle I physically hurt after Feeney confronted Eve. It was so harsh. I‘m glad they are mending their relationship. 7mo

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR: Ch.6-10:
Eve finds herself dealing with good witches and bad witches - as far as she is concerned they‘re all suspect. She meets Isis, the white witch that Alice ran to after her experiences in the dark with Selina. Isis gives Eve a warning and also invites her to their next gathering. Eve and Roarke visit Selina‘s club and speak to Lobar, who confirms her and Alban, her companion‘s, alibi. ⬇️

StayCurious Lobar then winds up dead practically on Eve‘s front lawn. Eve is pissed that she brought evil to their doorstep. She & Roarke also discover Alice‘s brother Jamie has managed to sneak in and he was the one who discovered the body. He claims to have seen other rituals that involved his sister. He wants revenge for her death. Eve tries to keep his involvement quiet. Eve is still warned by her commander to keep Feeney in the dark- this is not easy 7mo
Librarybelle This had some really good but creepy scenes. I‘m really liking this one. 7mo

LiseWorks This one is right up my alley as I like books that deal with witches. I love how skeptical Eve is , Roarke and Peabody are doing the "it doesn't hurt to cover the bases" bit. 7mo
TheAromaofBooks I know in Roberts's romance/romantic suspense she isn't afraid to use supernatural elements, so I'm really interested to see if there is a “science/logic“ answer or if there actually is some black magic at work here. 7mo
StayCurious @TheAromaofBooks I think a lot of it is on how you perceive things. Like Alice thought it was all real and so she was terrified. And they used droids and synthetic feathers to push her over the edge. 7mo

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR BK 5 Ch.1-5: we start off at the funeral of a fellow cop and a close friend of Feeney. While there, Eve meets the man‘s granddaughter Alice who asks Eve for a clandestine meeting. Eve is also tasked by her commander to look into the death of the cop which may not have been an accident. In fact, he might have been into something shady. Eve is put in a really tough spot wherein she has to hide things from Feeney. ⬇️

StayCurious When Eve meets Alice, she hears a horrible story of a youthful foray into Wicca and the dark arts and she hears about an evil witch named Selena Cross. Alice claims Selena is guilty of murder and that she saw a child being killed. Before Eve can look into things further, Alice is struck by a cab - but was it really an accident? What‘s interesting about this one is we know the culprit behind what‘s going on. Eve just has to prove it. (edited) 7mo

Dallas investigates the occult in a case which sees the death of a fellow police officer, & a falling out with her mentor, Feeney.

I love the partnership that is developing between Dallas & Peabody. Not so enamoured with Roarke, he keeps overruling Eve in her personal life all the time. For that reason I have dropped a star off my original rating. 4🌟

For once, he slept first. She lay in the dark, listening to him breathe, stealing a little of his warmth as her own body cooled. Since he was asleep, she stroked his hair.

"I love you," she murmured. "I love you so much, I'm stupid about it."

With a sigh, she settled down, closed her eyes, and willed her mind to empty.
Beside her, Roarke smiled into the dark.

He never slept first.

Mehso-so

As per usual, I love the banter between Eve and Roarke (almost as much as I just love Roarke, haha). However the suspense in this one just didn't work, and everything to do with the case felt like a slog. Guess satanic rituals just aren't my bag. I'm still a fan of this series (even if I doubt I'll ever catch up ?) but this one just didn't quite make the "pick" cut. I do LOVE this particular scene/quote though! #romantsy

5 down, 41 to go ??‍♀️
