“He was not so arrogant as to refer to his own death as The End, just one of billions of ends before The End. Death is only the end if you assume the story is about you.”
It's late in the day, and I don't know how long this book will be at this price, but I thought I'd share in case anyone was interested in adding a Welcome to Nightvale book to their collection.
It Devours is a bit of an irreverent pick for the #DecemberSong challenge's 6th prompt, Oh Come All Ye Faithful. In this book, a religious group that worships a hungry God envokes said God to come devour the town of Nightvale. It's up to a determined scientist and a devotee who is dedicated to protecting his faith to figure out what is happening and find a way to stop it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book but I‘d be tentative to recommend it to others. It runs parallel to the main podcast and features a solid mix of new and old characters, and has a pretty compelling main lead in the scientist Nilanjana and the religious devout Daryll. They also have Carlos and explore his time in the other world from the podcast, which was interesting. However, people unfamiliar with the podcast wouldn‘t be able to just jump into it
The second Night Vale book was as fun as the first. If you enjoy quirky horror comedy, this is a good pick even if you haven't heard the #podcast (it is much more fun if you have, though). #science #religion #parallelworld #lgbt #lgbtq #lgbtcharacter
I loved this audiobook read by none other than Cecil Baldwin and to be honest, I was better for it. Since I read the predecessor myself I knew that the voice is what really makes the book and Cecil reading this sold me on it in a way that the book might have wavered. A solid 4 ⭐
I was hoping to be able to finish my ebook (tagged), but he tuckered himself out playing that cat fishing game for cats. I don't want to risk waking the beast.
Whenever I'm on my tablet he paws at it wanting to play with it. I've created a monster.
Book 41 of the year, finished May 25, audio
I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first in the series.
It describes the relationship between a devout religious man and a scientist woman and how they together defeat The Smiling God. Or do they?
This hovered between a pick and so-so, but I ended up giving a pick because of Night Vale's overall entertaining weirdness. I think this would have worked better for me as an audiobook, read like the podcasts I've enjoyed before. 3 💥💥💥 out of 5

I super duper loved this. Hearing it read by Cecil was the cherry on the invisible pie. Nobody does a book like Nightvale....nobody.
Mountains...more like nothings! Ella is said because she's not allowed in the dog park.
1. Tagged, Homey Don't Play That!, and about 33 minutes left listening to The Uninhabitable Earth.
2. 🤯🤯🤯
3. 😉😈😡

It's always fun to listen to Cecil Baldwin talk about Nightvale.
Man alive I love the WTNV folk. I enjoyed the first novel a little better, perhaps, but this one was delightful.
If you‘re unfamiliar, the pod cast is a fun, sweet, creepy fictional community radio program from a desert town that is never boring.
The drawing out of the ending is totally within the way the Night Vale world works but I feel they‘ve done it more elegantly in live shows and on the pod cast.
#Booked2019 book related to a podcast
Science! Also religion! Neither is 100% good or evil! It‘s typical Nightvale and I had as much fun listening to this audiobook as the podcast.

The Nightvale books are weird and clever. If you like books that are different I‘d recommend picking this one up
Third book down for #24B4Monday! I am extremely unlikely to make it anywhere near 24 hours, but at least this is motivating me to get some books finished.
I liked parts of this book: the Carlos parts. Especially the Cecil and Carlos parts. The rest… 🤷🏻♀️ Not really interesting or satisfying. I‘ll probably give the next Night Vale book, if there is one, a miss.
We don‘t have many plans this weekend, and I realized I‘ve only finished one book this month, so I think I will join in one of these readathons for the first time! I doubt I will manage #24B4Monday, but I can try. At least it may motivate me to listen to more of my audiobook.
Finished Captive Prince and didn‘t really enjoy it, so I‘m returning to a new book by some old faves. I loved the Night Vale podcast in high school, and reading this should get me all ready for spooky Halloween! ☠️
I think maybe I should switch to the audiobook for this. My library has it through Overdrive but I‘ve never listened to an electronic audiobook before. What‘s the best way to go about it? And has anyone else listened to the audio? I think it will work much better with Cecil narrating.
Seasonal read! I didn‘t like the first Night Vale book enough to buy this one, but I couldn‘t resist when I saw it at the library. I love the podcast, just not so much the book…
Finished this on my way to work today! I‘m kinda sad it‘s over. You can‘t go wrong with basically an extended version of the podcast. You HAVE to listen to the audio if you read the book.
#doyoubelieveinmountains
I‘m enjoying this audiobook so much! I listen to it on my way to and from work. Makes me look forward to my drive.
I‘m baking some cookies for my neighborhood block party, I have to work but my dad is going. The non-pretty ones will be for coworkers and myself. #scottishshortbread #ilovebaking
"A church is a business that can't feel like a business to anyone but the people running it."
I wish non-cluster-B people would just TRY to write fiction about cults without deciding that any malevolent, large-scale manipulator must be a "ps*chopath" or "s*ciopath," i.e. someone like me. It gets old, them trying to pawn their own capacity for evil off on us.
"Sometimes it's okay to find something beautiful without correctly understanding it."
Welcome to Night Vale is like coming home after a long time and feeling like it‘s all almost right but not quite. I love it so much.
Any Littens near Brooklyn who also happen to be a #freakyfriend The Night Vale show on June 8 will also include other podcasts, not limited to but yes, with Pounded in the Butt By My Own Podcast.
Ferry ride made better with a view and a book
The weather is complete crap here in the Midwest so I think reading about a desert town is what I need right now.
Ohhh is was as wonderful and crazy as I hoped it would be. I would highly recommend it for anyone that needs a massive dose of imagination in their lives.
Loved Welcome To Night Vale, and their second book, It Devours is looking to be even better! I'm hooked by Nilanjana and the ominous Joyous Congrgation of the Smiling God.
I really need to get back into listening to the show again! The whole strexcorp/smiling god plot in the second year was by far my favourite and this book really reminded me of that (I giggled everytime Kevin was mentioned) so yeah, great book for fans of the podcast 😁
Hypothesis: She could trust him.......
Alternate hypothesis: He's a psychopathic cult member who knows how to manipulate people
So stupidly I decided to walk to work this morning since no public transport. At least it gave me time to listen to an audiobook. #TheBeastFromTheEast
KILL IT, BURN IT WITH FIRE!!!!!
Nilanjana is a scientist who works in Carlos's lab. She winds up investigating a weird series of events around town where places and people appear to be swallowed by huge pits. It leads to the Church of the Smiling God where she begins a relationship with Daryll Ramirez. Soon she has to decide if he is on her side or up to something sinister. She also has to decide to save the town. Fun tale of the weird with some laugh out loud moments. #MountTBR
Misch-Evie-ous is more likely to take a nap than read with me as I work on #MountTBR.
Quick and humorous read. Little something different. Might appeal to fans of Christopher Moore, Simon Green, or Carl Hiaasen.
This is what my #24in48 has become. I was planning to get lots of reading done, but ended up working later yesterday and many peeps have reach out to hang out today, so I‘m reading when I can and having my personal readathon some other weekend. #introvertsnightmare #iwanttoread
Featuring angels who aren‘t angels, disappearing pizza places, and the Joyous Congregation of the Smiling God, this book is a wild ride. Equally zany and heartfelt, this book is perfect for people looking to read something different. Also, some dude on Goodreads was whining that this book was anti-male and heterophobic and now I just want all of y‘all to read this book and love this book just to spite him 😝
Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor are great narrators and this novel is a fun trip into the world of Night Vale. I love the little jokes that show that the world of Night Vale is not our own. But in the end, while the world is so unlike our own, the people in it are all too human. And that‘s a very interesting take on this world.
Shining Girls wasn‘t working out. So, It Devours! May be my first book of 2018. 🙂
Nights of reading and beer (a local brew from my town with a bit of honey).
Began this one last night. I love the podcast so much, especially because of its weird atmosphere and very dark humour.
