“As it turns out, you can‘t outrun who you are.”
Getting into this because Cobb's new novel, #thehollywoodassistant, was released today and I heard that if you liked this book you'll like her next one. At first, I was getting bored because it was a lot of chaos and typical women behaving badly, but now things are getting serious and I'm loving the twists and turns! Will update when complete.
Fictional moms behaving badly books may just be my guilty pleasure even if this had me groaning a few times. There where several years as a working married mom were I was completely overwhelmed and distinctly remember standing on my back deck looking across the horizon to the neighboring subdivision of many a stay-at-mom and being convinced my life would be easier if I just lived one subdivision south. Silly me!
Old photo from my friend‘s mom‘s lake house since all these rich brats talked about was their lake houses.
There was an extra twist that was fun. But it does not excuse the stupid& preposterous story: Stupidly drunk, horny & impulsive MC. Vapid & erratic side characters. Police & medical professionals that would never behave like this. A few key things left unexplained.
I thought the same for My Summer Darlings, so I‘m done with May Cobb
Officially at the half way mark in this one… it‘s pretty bad actually. The MC is a bad person, is stupid & needs rehab. The woman she is obsessed with (but “not in a 🌈 way, I swear”) is childish & terrible. The side characters are all pretty bad. Age gaps give me the creeps & mid 30s women making out with teen boys… ick. Like teen boys weren‘t even cool when I was a teenager, get a grip ladies.
While I will say that the book made me want to keep reading every time I picked it up (which is usually the sign of a great book), I hated the protagonist! That said, I was guessing all the way to the end!
This one bothered me. The protagonist had an amazing life but just continually made ridiculous decisions. I was so annoyed I had to finish it....
I know this didn‘t get very good reviews but I really enjoyed it. Some of the content was disturbing and the characters were people you love to hate. The twist at the end was good- didn‘t see it coming.
35 of 2022. Book 2 for #MarvellousMay . Wow! What a bunch of morally bankrupt people! The main character wasn‘t the brightest crayon in the box either. Overall, it was an enjoyable read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Total pages read: 752
Ever read a book where the mc is just so dumb it's painful? This one was like that. All of the characters were lacking in any positive attributes (and full of really - REALLY - awful ones), and the mc took stupid to a whole new level. Yeah the story was readable and all, but I hated just about everyone and honestly hoped they'd all just die in a swarm of bees by the end.
This kept my interest all the way through. Every time I picked it up, I wanted to keep reading. The characters were super unlikable and hard to route for but the story was compelling and I thought it had a good twist. I mostly liked the story even though I felt like some parts were a bit cliche and silly, it was fun and I would definitely recommend it!
It has been awhile since I wanted to yell at a character the way I wanted to yell at Sophie. Contentedness us highly underrated. #Scarathlon2021 #Readlikehellathon #Wickedathon #OutstandingOctober #Spookoween #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick @Andrew65
Looks like I am about to get some reading time. Cave exploring clothes and some blankets have the need to be washed at the laundromat. #Scarathlon2021 #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick
Overall just ehh with a fantastic ending. I almost DNFd it.
Heres what I did while social media was down all day
My Book of the Months are staring at me bc Ive neglected them so I could finish my TBR shelf on Goodreads.
I don‘t mind a book with unlikable characters, but I draw a line when the main character is a willful idiot who does stupid shit, followed by selfish shit, then repeats.
Decent writing, light on mystery & heavy on horrible 40ish women drinking a lot, cheating on spouses, being rich & bored, manipulating teenagers, & being general tw*ts.
Snotty, drunk & dumb is no way to go through life!
The end was lame. Yet, I kept listening.🤷🏻♀️

I read this book fast. It's been a long time since I've been able to do that! I liked the characters so much that I didn't mind that the "twists" were a little predictable.
🎧 NEGATIVE REVIEW: Sophie marries Graham after a 6 month courtship & has a baby boy. She loves both her husband & son dearly. They live in Chicago and both parents have high powered jobs.
Sophie decides to move to a small Texas town that she lived in for a couple years in her youth. She wants to be a stay at home mom to 3 year old Jack while she works part time writing a book. Graham is ok with this & finds an even better job in Texas.
⭐️ 👇🏻
There is NOTHING sexy about women in their late 30s sleeping with boys in high school. I don‘t care if the age of consent is 17 in Texas (as the MC finds out during a frantic Google search after sleeping with an 18-year-old) it is DISGUSTING to normalize, glamorize, and describe this type of “relationship” in graphic detail without any discussion of why it is wrong. I‘ve been in reading slump for a couple months and this fast paced, suspenseful book did the trick of getting me back on track with my reading! Fun read about suburban moms behaving badly and murder. Highly recommend!

I just want to stay home from work today and read. 😂😭 #thehuntingwives #maycobb
I bailed about 45 minutes into this book. It sounded mildly interesting in the BOTM information but I was 90% sure I didn‘t need to buy it. So borrowed it from the library. And just couldn‘t with the “mean girls” and the newb trying to fit in vibe. I think I‘m just too damn old for that sh*t.
Overall Rating 3½⭐ | Narration😁=Very Good
The MC really got on my nerves in this one, she‘s so flipping stupid. Seriously, didn‘t she learn the first time they drugged her not to drink anything they gave her? This was an okay read...in a train-wreck on the side of the road that you can‘t help but gawk at kind of way. Overall, I didn‘t see some things coming and it surprised me at the end, but getting there just irked the hell out of me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Positives: def a FAST read. I tore through it in one day. The characters are twisted and interesting, perfect amount of dysfunction to keep the plot moving. Negatives: Sophie, Sophie, Sophie. Omg she was almost TOO unlikable of a main character. Dumber than a box of rocks, a complete follower, pathetic. She deserved everything that happened to her 😂 play stupid games, win stupid prizes. But seriously, it was a decent read. #botm
Trying to read, but 75 pounds of furry love is making it hard. My fave moments ever in life...until he poked a hole thru the pages 😑 #botm #thehuntingwives
🍸 𝙄𝙩‘𝙨 𝙖 𝘿𝙧𝙪𝙣𝙠, 𝘽𝙞-𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙃𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙬𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨! 🍸 Sophie O‘Neill has a gorgeous hubby and an adorable son, but her ho-hum upper middle class Texas life needs some kick. Enter Margot Banks - the Regina George with minions, money, and martinis! Sophie can‘t help but fall under her spell and soon becomes embroiled in murder. http://scrappymags.com/2021/05/22/book-review-the-hunting-wives-by-may-cobb/
Sophie moves back to her Texas hometown and becomes entwined in a group of rich, shooting and drinking housewives. A member of the community connected to the group ends up dead — could one or more of the group have something to hide? I was motivated to keep turning the pages to see how things would turn out, but everyone is so unlikeable, and there seem to be a few holes in the plot. All in all, a decent beach read.

Every single character is awful and I loved it! I liked that I wasn't able to pin-point the killer. I kept flopping between two of the characters and I definitely thought it was one of the two and was pleasantly surprised when I was wrong. I don't think this book is going to be widely loved though. It's a bit... camp? I don't know if that's the right way to describe it but think Desperate housewives but more desperate.
I have so many questions for Litsy readers...
•What do you like to read?
•How do you like to read? paper books or digital? Both?
•If both, how do you decide which type to buy?
•Do you find you retain audiobooks the same way you would if you had read it instead of listened?
•Do you keep all your BOTM books or sell/trade them?

Looking for a backyard/beach read to enjoy with a boozy beverage? Out 5/18, this is an engaging read about rather horrible women who love to shoot, flirt and drink excessively! Newcomer Sophie finds herself obsessing over Margot and her quartet of glamorous friends. And once she‘s in with the group, she‘s unprepared for the unexpected direction her life takes as it all comes crumbling down! The characters are unsympathetic- but entertaining!
It is a neat trick to write a book about unlikeable people but still be able to keep the reader interested. May Cobb succeeds at this.
I gave this book 3.5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. #NetGalley #TheHuntingWives
The Hunting Wives was definitely out of my reading genre! However after the first like 10 chapters I COULDN‘T put it down. It had an unexpected Ending. It got 5⭐️ from me
This campy book was a fun mixture of single white female and desperate housewives behaving horribly with outrageous consequences
Even when she isn‘t sitting on my book, she‘s in my book ♥️ New bookmarks, I have one for each cat 😅
I enjoyed this book and trying to figure out who was going to die and who did it and how. It kept me guessing and even though the ending isn‘t what I expected, I really enjoyed the ride.
Wow strong notes of underage attraction and infidelity in this one. Totally not a fan. Surprisingly though, I finished it. With a knot in my stomach the entire time.
I just don‘t get the appeal of authors writing about underage sex like it is something to be proud of.
Sooooo much drinking, that every single one of them should go to an AA meeting.. and what was with all the lattes?! 🙄
Read for the day. Missouri weather can never make up its mind. All week it‘s been warm, yesterday was mid 60s, and this morning woke up and it‘s 30 degrees and has been snowing non stop 🤦♀️
Oookay... This was a really quick, easy read that required very little effort. A fatuous story with unbelievable characters. Honestly, I enjoyed an internal groan every time Sophie made another terrible decision. She's every eye roll I find myself commiting when I go out to a bar & there are shrieking 20-somethings. My biggest issue was the smutty focus on indecent relationships with minors. I'm hung up on it & it definitely contributes to my 🔽
I devoured this book! These women behave so badly, the MC makes so many terrible decisions, and wow they drink all the time...but I couldn‘t look away. Glad my friends aren‘t like the women in this book! 😳
