If you‘re looking for a grounding meditation and a way to halt your spinning anxieties, The Comfort Book is your salvation. I enjoyed this book as a way to infuse a little bit of zen, the wonder of life, and the bigger picture into every day. I want to have it on my coffee table as my daughters experience the inevitable growing pains of youth. What a lovely treasure of a book. True to its name, it‘s as comforting as a warm cup of tea 🍵 5⭐️
Matt Haig offers words of comfort in small chunks which is necessary in a time of grief when it‘s difficult to focus attention on any one thing too long.

I LOVE this book. I have reread it a few times during struggles with depression.
This was a ✨comforting✨ amalgam of maxims, personal stories, and short histories that show a bit of the hope in life
I bought this actually as a gift for my sister but wanted to read it first so I read it pretty quickly before I sent it to her. But I think it would be even better digested slowly, reading passages as a pick-me-up every so often

To the friend who always provides comfort in exactly the right way at exactly the right time, thank you for your thoughtful Christmas gift. The tote bag is fabulous and I look forward to reading this! (And I didn‘t know Maltesers were a brand of malted milk balls in the UK! One of the Derry Girls actresses uses them on a holiday GBBO special and I am going to rewatch it now and eat them! 😂) Merry Christmas!
It is wonderful to be reminded from time to time to just "be" instead of "do", to be reminded there is always hope and that better days follow after bad days. This book felt like a personally tested emotional "survival guide", a balm for those days when our soul is experiencing really gloomy weather conditions and all seems bleak and forget that maybe we just need to change the perspective from which we look at things.
Bookspin for August, captured in moody low lighting 🙃
Progress has been slow lately, so wish me luck!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A friend lent me this book, but I ended up buying my own copy because I can see myself finding comfort in its pages during difficult times (and wanting to loan or gift it to others). It‘s packed with short passages that draw from topics like poetry, philosophy, science, history, and personal essays, all aiming to remind us there is always hope. I wanted to savor this book slowly, reading only a bit at a time to let the words digest.

3. Been so long I don't remember but my last podcast was Marlon and Jake Read Dead People.

#tarottakeover so interesting that the nine of swords was pulled- I interpreted it as representative of a collective fear and anxiety that is technically very appropriate in these times. So I offer Teo books that accept these emotions and encourage us to live with them and move into a safe space as well. Thank you @ErinSueMreads for being our host and guide in this activity.
There is a comfort listed for everyone. If peanut butter toast isn‘t for you, it might be getting up and taking a shower and a walk. Exactly as titled, this book of comforts is a comfort read. What‘s really nice is that you can pick a section or a comfort and don‘t have to read in sequential order. If you have limited time or trouble focusing, that can be a comfort as well.
Lots of comforting thoughts in this book.
Words of comfort and hope from a writer who has been in the depths of despair and found a way to cope. I read a few pages a day with a family member; and when we had finished, we started again from the beginning. The book lives up to its name. Highly recommended.
“Your self-worth is not found in the minds of other people.” Haig writes openly about his struggles with depression and anxiety, and has filled a book with thoughts, quotes, and ideas that he‘s found comforting over the years.
I just loved this book. I‘m so glad I happened upon it on the “New” Nonfiction shelf at the library.
“To feel hope you don‘t need to be in a great situation You just need to understand that things will change Hope is available for allYou don‘t need to deny the reality of the present in order to have hope you just need to know the future is uncertain and life contains dark and light we can have our feet right here where we are while our minds hear another octave we can be half inside the present half inside the future half in Kansas half in oz”
Thank you so much for my #Jolabokaflod swap gift! I love everything! The Comfort Book is perfect for starting the New Year. The Rudolph Chocolate brought a smile to my face. I have never seen it! Love the bookmark and the library cards! You were so thoughtful! Hope you are enjoying your Christmas Eve, and wishing you a very merry Christmas season! @guinsgirlreads
@MaleficentBookDragon Thank you for organizing such a fun swap! Merry Christmas!
This collection of wise and encouraging notes on life really does what it says on the box! I came to this after reading and loving and HUGGING Haig‘s novel The Midnight Library and have found here a nonfiction parallel, perfect to have around in times of need.
A book like this is what we need from time to time to gently remind us to keep going.
"The best thing about rock bottom is the rock part. You discover the solid bit of you. The bit that can't be broken down further. The thing that you might sentimentally call a soul. At our lowest we find the solid ground of our foundation. And we can build ourselves anew."
I picked this up in the store on a whim, and fell in love. Each section is a warm reminder to take care.
I miss Gladstones Library and the lovely Littens I spent the last weekend with. And I miss a fire at night and somebody bringing me tea. 😁 #retreathangover
When the author was younger he suffered from depression and this book is a collection of thoughts, meditations and quotes that help keep him 'afloat'. It is a short self help type book that would make a good gift for anyone going through rough times. They were several memorable lines that I will try to live by...including “Get a routine baggy enough to live in.“ I gave it 4/5 stars.
Don‘t absorb criticism from people you wouldn‘t go to for advice.

Imagine my inner child dancing in the rain 💃💃
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Matt Haig‘s with the feels. This is the book you keep close by…within reach for those moments you need a little something to lift your spirits.
Awake with a sore throat and stomach ache when I should be getting up for work in just a few short hours. Going to need some comfort indeedy when I tell my boss that I need to use a sick day tomorrow😬😬😬
I went into this with low expectations. I thought it would be full of hollow quotes but I loved it. I listened to it while walking the dog & it honestly felt like I was calling a best friend/therapist/life coach. It is full of perspective, advice, and shared experiences. I highly recommend it to anyone suffering with anxiety, depression &/or panic attacks. It really is a comforting book to listen to.
Oh how I love this sweet, yet deep book! The perfect anecdote for a worried mind. I love Matt Haig, though I have to read Reasons to Stay Alive yet. So many of these tiny little “chapters” are frame-able.
