I got the novelization of the Ghostbusters reboot film today! Totally forgot I put it on hold so it was a welcome surprise ☺️

I think this is one of those new weird shaped paperbacks that are taller than regular ones? But are still just as skinny? This is the first time I've ever dicked around with one this size. What was the point of resizing paperbacks? honestly

xicanti An editor once told me bookstore owners like them because they retail at a higher price point than regular mmpbs and you can fit just as many of them on a shelf, so they made good economic sense. This is also why trade paperbacks got so popular about twenty years ago. 6y

Weaponxgirl This guy lead the racist, sexist attacks on Lesley Jones when ghostbusters came out. I'm very much for freedom of speech, you can have a shitty opinion and we can debate if you'll actually do it respectfully but this to me is not ok 7y

Weaponxgirl Simon and schauster are rewarding hatred and small mindedness with a massive book advance plus having a big publisher behind such views lends it a air or credibility that he doesn't deserve. I hate boycotting things but I don't think I can support a company that supports a author like this with my money. I've been putting my hard earned money behind diverse authors to exact change in a positive way. But I'm just so damn angry , and I alolo 7y

If I remember correctly, she made some phone calls & had gotten some good input on how to express our displeasure with this ahem, "deal", in meaningful ways in addition to boycotts. 7y

Best ways are emailing publisher & publicists, booksellers & libraries asking them to drop Milo or not stock the book. Cont. below: (edited) 7y

Weaponxgirl @Theresa thank you, I've emailed them to tell them why I disagree with publishing such a person in a polite way. I normally prefer to encourage and promote good change by supporting diverse authors ect. This one deal though makes me so sad. 7y

BookishFeminist Rationale: imprints work differently than a lot of folks assume so a blanket boycott would do more harm to the authors it does support than good in terms of boycott. Best advice I got was to support the POC authors that have 2017 book deals with them bc they'll be dropped entirely if s&s looses money but if you support them but not the imprint & make phone calls and emails like I said, it allocates the money where they think they'll sell most 👇🏼 7y

BookishFeminist S&S has some of the largest imprints that actively support authors of color so it wouldn't be sending the right message according to publishing professionals. It's a complicated subject though. Anyway I can give folks email addresses & phone numbers tor people to contact & I encourage folks to get in touch with their bookstores! Other industry advice I got was to stay quiet about it bc scandal sells books. Quiet doesn't. Contact the right folks 7y

BookishFeminist and it has a better shot of getting the message across than a blanket boycott. But by all means I recommend boycotting the heck out of the imprint itself Threshold Editions. I can't in good conscious not support authors & imprints that have nothing to do with this decision for the Milo book deal since so many other publishers do this too. But taking the right kinds of action will hopefully get results. 7y

The general consensus seemed to be that all things considered this is a measly book deal for what it could be (most public figures get high 6-7 figures). There's a really high disparity between white folks (who say boycott) & POC in the industry & id rather listen to the latter for this since they'd be impacted most! 7y
