I enjoyed this book Reyes! Looking at the reviews on Goodreads, I was a little disappointed that so many people did not like the book. I thought it was amazing!

This book was not terrible but it was a little underwhelming. Maya loses her best friend Aubrey in a mysterious way in the presence of her strange new boyfriend Frank. Years later Maya comes across a YouTube video of another woman mysteriously dying and guess who is sitting across from her as she passes away? Maya‘s ex Frank! Maya goes on a search for the answers to why these mysterious death happened. Is Frank responsible?

I found this be a little confusing at times but kind of got it at the end. I still don‘t get how he killed people the way he did though

Reese fibbed!!!! I haven‘t had much time to read lately either, but it sure slowed me down. 🙃

I initially started this book a while back and then re-started it. I went through it rather quick, as a psychological thriller it does make you want to keep reading. However, I can‘t really pinpoint when, perhaps the last few chapters, but after finishing the book, I just felt indifferent. 😐

April 21, 2024 I would give this book 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I did not feel like there was a surprise factor. One thing I will share is thag I am glad Maya did not get affected by Frank's hypnosis. Her mom saved her from dying. Apparently, Frank had learned how to do hypnosis from his dad so well that he caused his dad to die; just like Aubrey and Cristina. The good news is that Dan, Maya, and her mom are all safe and sound

April 21, 2024 Maya now knows why Frank said he built a cabin. The cabin was built in his mind. Made up! He IMAGINED himself in the cabin by the fire under his sleeping bag. He made it up bc he wanted to get away from his dad. At age ten, he and his mom felt endangered by his dad so he would make up this story and tell ppl. Maya is trying to figure out who Oren (Frank's dad) is. Oren is actually a certified hynotherapist. "Hyno" was shocked her

April 21, 2024 She texts Steven, the security guard at the museum and asks to meet with him for drinks. She gets a drink and begins sharing with him that Frank had invited her to his cabin. She wants to go back to his cabin BUT not by herself. She has a key so she can somehow go back. Is Frank a killer?

April 21, 2024 Reading at the gym for a different setting and atmosphere. Have you read at the gym? Or do you prefer to read in silence at home? I like BOTH! Anyway, I am on page 208 and I have gotten to the point where Frank invites Maya to his cabin, only Maya, because she is beautiful. I wonder if Maya reminds him of Cristina. After inviting Maya over, Maya wants to immediately leave. She has dirt on her hands and knees. She doesnt know happen

April 18, 2024 I am on page 180. At this point in the book, Maya is upset with Aubrey bc Frank was trying to make a move on her. Frank even gave her a book that he thought she might like. Aubrey tells Maya that she did not want to get into a relationship with Frank. Frank made the move on her instead. Frank was seen with Aubrey drinking blended coffees together; which gave her a message, probably the wrong message

April 16, 2024 Hmmm... Now the story is picking up constant pace. Heads up: The story goes back and forth so one who reads the book will have to keep track of story line themselves. Some chapters talk about Maya and her mom Brenda (the relationship they have) and Maya and Aubrey (a good friend of Maya). Maya is trying to figure out what happened to Cristina. She thinks that Frank, the librarian, killed Cristina. She is trying to search for clues.

April 15, 2024 I began this book in hopes of being able to start another thriller while reading Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood. Love, Theoretically is kind of slow-burning, and doesnt get to the climax that fast. I feel like thrillers start out fast and get even faster!

I didn't love this and I didn't hate it. You could say it fell solidly in the middle somewhere. I didn't really connect with the characters, but I thought the concept of the story was intriguing. However, the ending, while acceptable, seemed lacking.

While I felt this book could be slow at times, I ended up liking it at the end. It was different. Had a psychological twist aspect to it.

It‘s my second to last day as an unemployed person before I finally start a new job (🙌🙌) so I‘m enjoying a little brunch out with my book - it‘s really good so far and these tacos are amazing. The delicious tea is magnolia oolong 💕

Ugh. This book could have been MUCH shorter. This is truly an example of “brevity is best,” as this book is so verbose and wordy, it‘s a journey and not a fun Middle Earth journey…this is a tedious journey, with not much payoff. Protagonist is an unreliable boozehound that I was not rooting for. The flashbacks to childhood/Guatemala could have been way cool but are tepid at best. Who knows, this might be your kind of book but it wasn‘t for me.

The plot was quite unique and I mostly enjoyed it. I‘m not sure how/why Mya‘s father is tied in…his part is interesting but it didn‘t add anything to the overall story. Two main questions: did Frank do it and exactly how did these women die?! Very thought provoking and Mya‘s personal demons and family MH history def adds to the mystery. But the ending was VERY anticlimactic and dare I say it, boring. Book #86 in 2023

I thought this book was just ok. Some suspense at times but I felt like there was all this build up and then it fizzled in the end. I wanted more of an ending.

Just so-so at the halfway mark. It was very meta to find this book in the library that is mentioned in the book.

Useless. There‘s a build up…..and goes absolutely nowhere. Such potential subject matter yet the storyline is flat.

I expected this to be better and more thrilling. I feel like there was no twist because it‘s pretty evident throughout the story what was going on. I had a hard time keeping up with the dual timelines because it would switch without warning. There were some side stories that really just had no impact on the story but a lot of time was spent on them. ⭐️⭐️

This was a pretty unique storyline, well executed.

Happy Sunday everyone! I started this Reese‘s Book Club pick last night and I have no regrets. Immediately suspenseful and a psychological thriller. I went shopping today and had to take it with me so I can read it on the road. It‘s a must read. I can really see this as a movie,knowing Reese W it just might be. This story was much better as an audiobook. It was a super quick listen, kept my attention, and it was an interesting twist into what was actually happening. I did expect it to be a little bit scarier given the premise but all in all I enjoyed it as a mystery. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I like to check in with the thriller genre every now and then to make sure I‘m not missing out. This book confirmed my suspicions that I‘m growing further and further away from this type of fiction. Maya is an unreliable narrator due to substance abuse, nothing new there. Granted, the twist is different, but I didn‘t find it riveting. I did appreciate the Guatemala setting during a small part. Nice cover.

I‘m only bailing on this one for now….I just can‘t get into the physical book and am hoping I‘ll enjoy the audiobook more. I‘ve got the audiobook on hold at the library but it‘s not going to be available to me for months and months 🤦🏼‍♀️. I just don‘t want it sitting on “currently reading” that long, making me feel guilty for giving up 🤣.

I've had this on hold at the library since the release and have managed to avoid spoilers - but the overall ratings/general sentiment have me concerned. I'm about half way through and honestly it's compulsively readable with the short chapters and alternating timeline... but I have a feeling the ending will ruin it 🤣 (yet I don't even have a guess at what it will be!!)

Looking on the bright side, I have about 30 hours of reading time ahead of me...

The 2nd in my #BirthdayHaul is this thriller set in a small town. Deep in the woods, densely surrounded by tall pines is a cabin that may look rundown but inside is enticing & warm. But Maya knows better, when her best friend & herself visited the cabin one summer, only Maya went home. Now another woman has died in the same way & Maya believes only she can save the next innocent girl using her broken memory & an unfinished book her father wrote.

3-24-23: My 32nd finished book of 2023! I really liked the concept but didn‘t love the ending. This was almost a so-so for me. 7 years ago, Maya‘s best friend dropped dead and she‘s sure the man she was dating did it. It was never proven and now after seeing a YouTube video showing the man she had dated and another woman dying, Maya decides it‘s time to go home and prove she isn‘t going crazy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣3️⃣2️⃣

This was another lackluster thriller for me. I think I'm over using the unreliable female narrator in mysteries/thrillers. Yet again, this book features a female going through benzo withdrawals who drinks to excess. At first the mystery pulled me in, but then it gets messy and predictable. At the point I was ready to give up, the author tosses in a paranormal twist, which I thought was interesting.

Another quick read that left me underwhelmed.

I‘ve typically liked the books I‘ve read from Reese‘s picks, but this one‘s just bad. It‘s starts out as a middling mystery/thriller with clunky character development and goes downhill from there. I wish I hadn‘t bothered.

I think I‘m getting into a thriller rut where I keep picking books with unreliable female narrators, so I wasn‘t really feeling this book at first, however, it really turned around for me and had a “paranormal”-ish aspect that I enjoy being added to thrillers. This is her debut novel and I‘m excited to see more from her. 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The reviews are all over the place for this one but I thought it was really creepy & sinister.

Maya is drinking too much to take the edge off her benzo withdrawals when she comes across a viral video. A woman drops dead in a diner in front of her ex-bf, the same way her friend had 7 years ago.

It‘s a slow burn & a quick read
