It took me over a month, but I finally got through it. Very macabre.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American writer of weird and horror fiction, who is known for his creation of what became the Cthulhu Mythos. Virtually unknown and only published in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, he is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors of supernatural horror fiction.

Jari-chan I'm also working on my Complete Works by Lovecraft. Mine is a box with six books and usually I tend to one each month. 9mo
suvata @Jari-chan Nice and much more manageable. Enjoy. 9mo
Jari-chan @suvata Thank you - I will ☺️ 9mo

It was alright.
I was really looking forward to read the tales of an author who inspired so many of my favorite directors and writers, but it was a bit of a let down.

There‘s some good stories in here (At the Mountains of Madness is a personal favorite). But this is largely a mixed bag. So many stories are either complete misses or largely forgettable.

Day 1 #AwesomeApril #Readathon

Only thirty minutes of reading done yesterday. New neighbors were having a party last night. The noise was too distracting so I just went to sleep instead of staying up to read. I started The Dreams in the Witch House in the Lovecraft collection.

Andrew65 Every little helps 😊 4y

One story is interesting enough but all of them together are sameish and mindnumbingly tedious.

Finished this up with the novellas Mountains of Madness, Shadow over Innsmouth, and Shadow out of Time - all very poor. Their major topics (the grotesque sublime, miscegenation as obscene, the horror of being an inferior race, etc.) are pretty foul and were covered much better in the less bloated short stories.

Mistermandolin @Settings He hasn‘t dated well, I agree. One of those authors of whom it might be said: his ability was out of all proportion to his talent. 4y

#icecreamforbooks Day 5: "I scream, You scream, We all scream" - Horror ? My first thought for this topic was to grab a Stephen King book, but I decided to go with an author who is somewhat lesser known. Actually, King has cited Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos as inspiration in some of his works. Another great writer influenced by Lovecraft's work is Peter Clines. If you like sci-fi and horror, I recommend you check out his books "14" and "The Fold"!

#ereader I prefer actual books and was hesitant about getting a Kindle at first. Eventually I got a Paperwhite and I love it. It's great for reading in bed at night and doesn't hurt my face if I fall asleep and drop it.

@Books,Tea,AndBookishThings My favorite reading spot is the back corner of the pool at the private club that I thought was too exclusive to let me in. Now that I'm in, I'd much rather just enjoy the weather and read than actually engage in social networking with the elite around me. #mystery

PurityofEssence @Yossarian I'd be slightly anxious around any body of water (including pools) while reading Lovecraft... 😨 Do you have a favorite Lovecraft story? 9y
