#TLT @dabbe

This was fun!! The bottom three are villains that frightened the life out of me as a child!! I‘m sure they meant the singular man in Bambi, I‘m using it to mean mankind. Also, if you‘re playing a fascist/Nazi automatic villain!! Missing from the list are my two favorite villains, Moriarty from Sherlock and Loki. (if you get redemption arc, are you still a villain?)

Care to play?

lil1inblue Loki! 😍 😍 😍 1y
dabbe I bet if AFI updated the list, it would include SHERLOCK's Moriarty. “Miss me?“ 😱 And excellent question. I'd have to say yes because Darth Vader got redemption, right? Though most of these on the list were evil all the way to the end. Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩶🧡🩶 1y

This is true epic fantasy. It is not a children's story. This is really, genuinely epic.
And love it!

The way the dragon attacks Esgaroth is almost cinematic. Even after reading it so many times, it still takes my breath away. And l love that passage describing the spot where the dragon fell and his bones were never disturbed.

Pure epic!

Cupcake12 Love this and so true! 2y
Daisey Yes, if only it had not taken Thorin so long to realize it. I had forgotten the context around the quote. 2y
JazzFeathers @Daisey @Cupcake12 In the first version, Tolkien did save Thorin who became King Under the Mountain. When l first read it l though, such a pity he changed his mind, l would have loved that Thorin survived. But then l realised that Thorin is such a great, even tragic character dispute all the fun the narrator makes if him, precisely because he didn't survive. 2y

I'm so behind in the #FellowshipOfTolkien reading of The Hobbit, as well as the other books I've been reading that I'm joining #20in4 with a goal of reading for 20 hours this weekend. I don't have to work tomorrow, so I should be able to pull it off.

Andrew65 Best of luck 😁 2y

Here is my Gandalf with The Hobbit. He is showing off his ridiculously tolerant self. And also pushing the boundaries because he knows he isn‘t allowed on the table but I‘m tolerating him being on the pile of comics 😆

He is not a particularly wise cat, but he is a gray and white escape artist. #LotRChapterADay #FellowshipofTolkien

Roary47 Love it! Hi Gandalf! 😻 2y
dabbe Hello there, Gorgeous Gandalf! 🖤🐾🖤 2y
Daisey Our group has quite the collection of cats named Gandalf. I didn‘t realize it was such a popular choice. 2y

RaeLovesToRead Adorable! 💕 2y
Clare-Dragonfly @Daisey Right?! 😂 Where are our Bilbo cats, our Fili & Kili bonded pairs? 2y
JazzFeathers I've counted three Galdalf kitties at least 😂 l wanted to call my cat Samwise, but my sister (who is a co-fur-mama) didn't want to hear of it. He's now Gino 😂 2y
Clare-Dragonfly @JazzFeathers Oh no! These cat co-parents and their bad taste! 😂 I wanted to call my tortie Winifred Sanderson, but my husband didn‘t like it so she‘s Magrat instead. 2y

Roary47 Right?! So I want to say we find out his actual name later. In his insanity with the ring he lost his name. So he calls himself “my precious”, but maybe senses he and the ring are connected by one name. Others call him Gollum because of that sound, because they see him and are revolted to even think of him as “precious” 🤷‍♀️ This did help! I thought I was reading things I didn‘t actually read. 😅 2y
Daisey @Roary47 @BethM I have no answers! I tend to think in all those years alone with the ring kind of melded his personality with it, but that in no way explains this reference since it is from a point in writing when Gollum was a very different character and planned to play the game fairly as shown in this old post: https://litsy.com/p/WFByQWFabzlC 2y
Daisey Also, I‘m fairly sure Tolkien didn‘t fully delve into the character of Gollum or create his backstory until LotR. 2y
JazzFeathers I don't remember how it was in the first edition. I mean, in which way Gollum.used 'my precious'. But l tend to agree with @Daisey that Gollum developed as the character we know in the LotR. So maybe in this revised version the old and the new mennerixm meld. Possibly? 🤔 2y

Of course I love this. This is either my third or fourth read (I lose track), and it‘s just as magical and fun as I remember! So excited to discuss in book club tomorrow

JazzFeathers I can't say how many times l've read The Ho bit, but every time is wonderful 🤩 2y

15 books? And the world is ending? You might as well just tell me that some much-needed reading glasses are broken 😜 @RaeLovesToRead (actual pic of me avoiding this dire thought) #ihavequestions #belovedbooks

Here‘s my list (with commentary!):
1. The Hobbit (⬆️THIS copy and yes I‘ll be mad if it gets scuffed or dinged)
2. The Complete Ivory - Egan (hey, series is contained into one book!)
3. Magic Strikes (the BEST Kate Daniels. Fight me.)
⬇️

Larkken 4. Starless Sea (good thing for the apocalypse that my MIL just gave me this)
5. Beauty - Robin McKinley (though maybe Blue Sword instead for the sheer nostalgia? gah)
6. The Wood Wife - Windling
7. Pride and Prejudice
8. Stardust - Gaiman
9. The Princess Bride - Goldman
10. Kushiel‘s Dart. No, wait, Avatar. Gah!
11. Complete Borges short stories (so I can dream of infinite libraries or something 👀)
12. Good Omens
(edited) 3y
Larkken 13. Family‘s illustrated Alice and Wonderland
14. Finishing School trilogy by Carriger on audio (when breaking the rules, go big)
15. Moon Called - Briggs (I don‘t have a fav from this series, so this might end up being Whatever One I Grab from series)
Holy nuts I‘d give both my ovaries to have a compilation of the initial Murderbot stories to put on here. Sorry, Pride and Prejudice. Or maybe Good Omens?

I am still working on the #booklet list…
(edited) 3y
RaeLovesToRead Love it! Starless sea has come up a few times... I shall purchase it next time I'm in Waterstones! 😁 (Although I still need to read The Night Circus!) I found the booket list easier because there are several books that I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO READ and they just pushed their way to the top.. 😊 3y

Larkken @RaeLovesToRead This was curtailed severely by needing to be physical books present on my shelves! That made it easier lol 3y
IndoorDame Ooh, yes! I should definitely take Alice 3y
5feet.of.fury So far for best Kate Daniels (I‘m on book 7) I‘m going with 3y
5feet.of.fury Also Kate Daniels series has made me want to read the Princess Bride, but I have not yet. Love your Gaiman choices! Great list! 3y
Larkken @5feet.of.fury oooh is this the one where they FINALLY got together? Agreed, that IS nice 3y
Larkken @IndoorDame looking at my shelves made me realize I‘d have to bring at least a/some books based on nostalgia and unwillingness to lose a family copy ❤️! …and not just on what I‘d want to reread…and reread…lol (edited) 3y
