What a lovely read. It‘s basically a romance, with some gender boundary stereotype bashing, some Nazis and some great writing. I didn‘t realise until the end that it was based on real people- so spent some time reading about them- which was as interesting as the book!
Not heard of the author before, will be having a look at some of his other books now.
This was a pick - just pressed blurb by mistake 😁

TrishB @Cinfhen my local indie had it in their list to read whilst in lockdown! Apparently one of the authors other books is in Bowie‘s top 100 and Bowie did an art exhibition of the MC in this book! 5y

Written in Trinidadian dialect, this novel explores the hidden underside of this island paradise. The culture is very male-centred, turns a blind eye to abuse and is incredibly homophobic.

Mr Chetan moves in as a lodger with Betty and her son Solo and the novel explores many different facets of love over a timeframe of many years.

For me, it was a slow start but by the end I loved it.

Boy loves girl but girl loves an older woman. Not a typical love triangle though. With Murakami, expect to be confused between the realms of fantasy and reality. A story where two parallel worlds overlap. A story of longings, of love/desire & unreciprocated love/desire. There‘s a mystery, themes of isolation & loneliness are apparent. It‘s also rich in metaphors. ⬇️

One of my all-time favorite couples. They decide to go to Europe for a romantic retreat, but every romantic moment is ruined by demons. I love Magnus Bane and I am so happy that Alex and he are finally the main characters and not just part of the supporting cast.

This was a really fun rom-com but after awhile all the sex scenes started to feel like unnecessary page filler, but hey I‘m not actually complaining. An enjoyable teen romance with some wonderful witty banter & significant social commentary.

Cinfhen It really was FUN!!!! And the narrator was hilarious @HOTPock3tt except it was a bit awkward to have my family hear my listening to a book where the words “dick” & “f@ck” were in almost every other paragraph 😜They now call me #SmuttyMum 5y

Highly inappropriate public transport reading!

Lawrence, reclusive Earl and scientist, keeps to his almost-derelict home in Cornwall, and has no need/desire to employ secretary/conman Georgie Turner. But he does. And many lives change in the process. It's a fun, light story, that deals with the main character's severe anxiety in a sensitive, understanding way.

And Yay for Sir Edward Standish (didn't see that coming!)
