#LetMeLie #ClareMackintosh
#OutstandingOctober #BookSpinBingo

Tom and Caroline Johnson chose to commit suicide 6 months apart. Anna, their daughter, is unwilling to believe it was suicide and is determined to find out what really happened. Murray Mackenzie, retired policeman, offers to help her. This book was a slow start and kept me guessing through a few plot twists until the surprise ending. It had lots of secrets and family drama.

EadieB I liked the characters of Murray and his wife Sarah the best. The book also dealt with the theme of mental illness and handled the subject very well. I like Macintosh‘s writing and look forward to her next book. (edited) 2y
Andrew65 I need to read some Claire Mackintosh. 2y
EadieB @Andrew65 Yes! I think you would enjoy her books 📚 2y

I‘ve been in a bit of a reading slump myself. Here are my reading stats for April. I read and finished three (3) books:

📚 #Unbelievable - 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
📚 #LetMeLie - 5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
📚 #Beartown - 5/5 Stars.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reviewsbylola I read Let Me Lie too! 6y
ephemeralwaltz Hope you work your way out of the slump! Loved Beartown 😋 6y
JamieArc I only finished 3 print books this month too (I‘m blaming it on the massive chunkster The Count of Monte Cristo that I‘m reading), but at least you read some good ones! 6y
MelissaSue81 I‘ve read all of these! I‘d say all solid 4 stars for me. Unbelievable actually being my favorite. Love Backman, but Beartown wasn‘t my most favorite. Still looking forward to the sequel. 6y

I See You | Clare Mackintosh
post image

I have read #ILetYouGo and #LetMeLie, and it is clear to me #ClareMackintosh is a master of #suspense and plot twists. I have not read #ISeeYou yet, but I highly anticipate I will be surprised by a #plottwist. I See You has been described as:
- “wonderfully sinister”
- “a deliciously creepy tale of urban paranoia”
- “an intense psychological thriller...Truly shudder-some.”
- “Mind-bending..You [will] reevaluate every step you take.”
#Aprella #TBR

Cinfhen I see you was not a favorite of mine....but I hear she redeemed herself with 6y
Jess7 I loved Let Me Lie! It was excellent. I also really liked her first one - I Let You Go. @Cinfhen 6y
Jess7 Was it predictable or what was it about it you didn‘t like @Cinfhen 6y

Mdargusch Yes she definitely has some great plot twists. I‘m anxious to read her new one! 6y
Cinfhen Because I was blown away by her first book, I was expecting real magic and it didn‘t come close @Jess7 the MC was annoying, the tension was a slow buildup, the premise was contrived, the nobody believes me am I just imagining things was underwhelming...it was just a big fizzle for me. 6y
Jess7 Oh that‘s good to know. Your feedback will definitely help put it in context whenever I do read it so I do not expect too much. I own it, so I do want to eventually read it. I‘ll let you know what I think when I do. Definitely check out her new book - Let Me Lie, it was very good and the twists were exceptional, I thought. @Cinfhen (edited) 6y
Reviewsbylola Nothing can touch I Let You Go imo. Her other two were good but not the same caliber imo. @Cinfhen @jess7 @Mdargusch 6y
Jess7 @Mdargusch - I loved her new book - Let Me Lie. It‘s one of those books where the ending makes up for any parts that might have been so-so. I really enjoyed it. 6y
Jess7 Ohh I liked Let Me Lie more than her first book, but I read them both back-to-back (the newest one second) . @Reviewsbylola @Cinfhen @Mdargusch 6y
emilyhaldi I loved I let you go but was bored by I see you 😏 6y
Cinfhen I‘m excited for let me lie but I‘m trying to keep my expectations in check 🙄😉 6y

Pickpick

I received an #ARC of #LetMeLie from #Firsttoread in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was filled with twists—most I did not see coming. The entire book was very suspenseful, but I was really on the edge of my seat by the end of part two and all of part three. Once you finish this #psychologicalthriller you will want to go back and re-read parts of it. Highly recommend: 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #JPBookReview

Lovesbooks87 It was amazing. Totally agree with your review! 6y
Jess7 Added a few more hours to the #25inFive with this one.. bringing my total to 5/25 6y
JoScho Hoping to finally finish this one tonight. 6y

Reviewsbylola Yes, it‘s definitely one of those books that would read TOTALLY differently if you read it a second time. Total mindf—- . 6y
Jess7 Riiight?!!! I‘m still like what?!! The ending though... that last page. I wondered about Anna the whole time... so that gave me satisfaction. @Reviewsbylola 6y
Reviewsbylola It is rare these days that I‘m left completely in shock, mouth hanging open like WOW so I‘ve gotta hand it to Makintosh for that. And I thought the last page was a nice touch. My first thought was maybe it was a bit much but now it‘s settling better. 6y
Rachbb3 So true about rereading parts of it, just to see it come together better. 6y
Jess7 @HOTPock3tt - I was replying to you and it went away. I‘ll move my comments here... don‘t read the other spoilers on here until you finish it bc it will ruin it for you. But I cant wait for you to get to part 3. 6y
HOTPock3tt @Jess7 I had a bit of trouble with the spoiler tab (probably just my phone) but thought it better for upcoming readers to just delete in the meantime. I will keep going! And see how it goes. Thanks for commenting!! 6y
Jess7 You‘re welcome. @HOTPock3tt - definitely tag me here or in a new post when you finish part 2 and begin part 3! 6y
HOTPock3tt @Jess7 I will! 🤗 6y
LiteraryinLawrence @Reviewsbylola @Rachbb3 @jess7 Guys, I just finished the book and... what????? What happened on the last page??? I‘m in shock!!! 6y

Aghhh I didn‘t see that coming... @Reviewsbylola - I am almost finished with this one. I got busy this afternoon cleaning, and just picked #LetMeLie back up, and WOW! I will finish this very soon. 😳 This is a nail-biter!

ReadingRuby I felt the same at the end of part two! So good. Enjoy the rest 😊 6y
Reviewsbylola Lol glad I didn‘t spoil it for you! I always get worried when I point out a big twist that people are just waiting and waiting for it and it loses impact. 6y
Jess7 Just finished it! I didn‘t see that coming!!! @Reviewsbylola 6y
RadicalReader @Jess7 nothing better than an utterly gripping thriller 6y
SilversReviews It is quite good. 6y

Rarely do I care for the side-story surrounding the detective in a #psychologicalthriller, but I must admit Detective Murray is my favorite character so far. His love for his wife is heartbreakingly beautiful 💙 #FavoriteCharacter #LetMeLie

Bakingbookworm Det. Murray was my fav too. This was a great read! 6y

I may have went a little overboard requesting #ARCs in March 🤷🏻‍♀️ In my defense, I never thought I would get approved for this many. It also hasn‘t helped that I received many at the same time with many a week ‘till publication and some pub dates have already passed. I‘m VERY grateful for this opportunity, but I am also a little overwhelmed. I‘m reading #LetMeLie, but I‘m in a bit of a #readingslump. How do you decide which #ARC to read first?

Lovesbooks87 After Nightfall was really good! It was my first ARC! Baby Teeth was really good too. But super creepy! (edited) 6y
Jen_Reads I‘ve been looking to see when they are available on my app for and then pick the release date that comes first. 6y
Samantha.1020 I always feel like I have too many waiting to be read 😂 One at a time I guess lol! 6y
See All 18 Comments
Jess7 @Samantha.1020 - when it‘s just my own #tbr I never get overwhelmed bc I love knowing I will never run out of something to read, but when #netgalley suggests an 80 percent ratio and I look at this stack — I feel paralyzed by it. I tried starting one of the ones a couple weeks ago that was about to be published, but I just couldn‘t get into it... I felt bad, and then I started another one.. etc I just wish I had a plan that wouldn‘t make me so 😳 6y
Jess7 Yeah I started trying to do that, but then there were so many being published so quickly after I was approved that I just felt like there was no way I would get them read before that. It also didn‘t help that the first one I started reading, I just couldn‘t get into. I probably should have moved on sooner. I think it put me in a reading slump. @Jen_Reads (edited) 6y
Jess7 Good to know @Lovesbooks87 - I think that one isn‘t due to be published for a bit, so it hasn‘t been on my immediate TBR radar, but I do want to read it. Good to know it‘s really good. 6y
Kristy_K I‘m in the same boat as you! I‘m trying to read the ones that are to be published soon but if I can‘t get into those I just pick a random one. 6y
Samantha.1020 @Jess7 The good thing is that you can say the book wasn‘t for you and I believe it still helps your ratio as you gave feedback. I try to read by publishing dates myself but as I‘m a mod reader that doesn‘t always work. Honestly I try my best but I don‘t stress because otherwise it wouldn‘t be enjoyable and then what‘s the point? I‘ve been blogging for awhile though so I know now what does and doesn‘t work for me 😂 6y
fanbookart Same... I feel kinda bad too 6y
britt_brooke @Jess7 This overwhelms me just looking at it. Sounds like work, and that‘s not fun. Hope you can figure out a good balance soon. I don‘t read ARCs because I‘m so spastic about choosing what to read next. Educated is in my TBR, so my vote is for that one. 😁 Good luck! 6y
Ms_T I‘m having a break from ARCs for a while as I got overwhelmed with them recently. I have one to read which will be published in June. 6y
julesG Crazy how this sometimes happens. You request a modest 5 and get none, you go over board and request 25 and get 23. I tend to pick according to publishing date. 6y
Mdargusch Oh no! Good luck! 👍🏼 6y
LiteraryLona How do you start requesting ARCs? Am I important enough to ask for them? 😂😂 Inquiring minds need to know! 6y
ReaderthenBlogger Do you prefer paper copy ARCs or ebook? I find that if I get a galley instead of a paper copy, I forget about it. I‘m trying to get better though, lol. 6y
readinginthedark Yes, I‘ve been so bad about this! I‘m better now, but my review percentage is somewhere around 20-30%. 😆 I made a list of them for one of my reading challenges this year and am trying to borrow the already-published ones from the library. 6y
Clwojick Same! I have 52 to review! 🙈 6y
Clwojick Although, I have read and reviewed 41 already this past month... so here‘s to hoping I‘ll be able to catch up in a month or two. 😅 6y

Jenna is glued to my lap when I read. 📚🐾 Her brother is sound asleep on the bed. They look so sweet and peaceful... little do they know they‘re getting the dreaded bath tonight (and haircuts to be scheduled soon bc their hair is looking a bit shaggy). 🤣 Do any of your #petsoflitsy like to lay on your lap while you read and/or hate getting baths as much as this one?

Reading: #LetMeLie #ClareMackintosh #schnauzersoflitsy

SharonGoforth My cat, Dinah, is on my lap as soon as she sees me pick up a book. I don‘t even attempt to give her a bath 🛀 🙀 6y
Jess7 Haha! I think cats are good at keeping themselves clean 🤗 so you‘re good! I bet you would have a bunch of claw marks if you tried. @SharonGoforth 🤗 6y
CoffeeNBooks Yep, both cats are always sitting on my lap while I read. 6y

wanderinglynn Yep! My dog and cat take turns. And my dog absolutely hates baths. You‘d think he was being tortured. ❤️🐱🐶 6y
jillannjohn My cat gets in my lap anytime I sit down! My puppy can not stay still long enough. I‘m not even sure that he sleeps! 6y
JoScho Always surrounded by dogs and yes they hate to take a bath. 6y
dylanisreading Yes! It's an entire production to give Roscoe a bath. He looks at me with such sadness the entire time. 6y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick My dog Watson lays on my lap whether I'm reading or not. We take him to the groomer. I think he prefers the bath to nail clipping because they always mention him trying to pull his paws out of their hands. 6y
Supersteph My little Arnold is like my shadow, so yep, if not on my lap, then very near to it 6y
britt_brooke 💚🐾 Cute! Our Boston terrier is an amazing dog, but not a snuggler at all. Sometimes I force him but he gives me the side eye, haha! 6y
RainyDayReading I have a bluetick coonhound that will literally dig her nails into the door jamb of the bathroom when we try to give her a bath. It‘s all four paws spread out and dug in. I‘m useless trying to get her to let go because I start laughing and can‘t do anything 🤣 6y
darklydreaming My reading spot is usually my bed and when my kitty hears me wander in there with a book, he is close behind and cuddles beside me while I read. It's my favourite!! ❤ 6y
tonyahoswalt My kitties love to lay in my lap while I read. I often have 1-4 reading buddies at a time. The fifth is not a lap cat. 6y
