Just curious... what reading challenges are y'all doing next year,? I'm still working on the 50 states, 50 horror books (50 percent complete); the past couple of years I have been slightly intrigued by the 52 book club challenge and I've knocked off a few new favorites I might not have otherwise... but I'm thinking '26 will be challenge/prompt free.As a mood reader, it's just so hard to commit!

TEArificbooks I have always done too many challenges and the reading starts to feel like “required” reading and there is no time for mood reading. So this year and next year I am participating when I feel like it. I‘m definitely going to participate in #USPresidents as I cohost. Also love #naturalitsy #themedcozies #foodandlit 6d
vivastory @TEArificbooks As a mood reader, I definitely endorse mood reading 📚📚😀 6d
Ruthiella I will definitely do #TBRTarot and #Roll100 because both help me read either what I already own or books I keep meaning to read but never prioritize. I will also do #ChuncksterChallege2026 and #AllergictoChunksters, but only when a TBR book happens to meet the criteria. 6d
See All 26 Comments
Dilara On Litsy, I'll continue with #foodandlit. I'll also follow #naturalitsy but I'm more of a lurker than an active member. On LibraryThing, I do the Global Challenge (read 5 books from every country - that's more of a lifetime endeavour) and an informal Nobel Prize challenge. I do better with free-form challenges, where I can read the books of my choice in the order of my choice 😁 6d
julesG I'll do 52bookclub again next year. Also Buzzword's Reading and Cover challenges because they are very low key and still tricky sometimes. 6d
vivastory I always see #tbrtarot .... can you explain it to me? @ruthiella 6d
Hooked_on_books I‘m not doing any. I‘ll be following the TOB and reading those as well as the Women‘s Prize and NBA lists, but no challenges. Though I have some thoughts about trying to get some of my mass market paperbacks read, my own little challenge. I‘m a mood reader, too. 6d
Ruthiella @cbee “pulls” a card like, read “read a book with a red cover” or “read a book by a Japanese author” and the way I do #TBRtarot is I look for a book I own that meets the criteria. If I can‘t find a match, I don‘t stress, however. 6d
AkashaVampie My memory sucks... but if u haven't tried #BookishMonopoly yet, here's ur chance. Also make sure to cater to u and what u want/have. 6d
AkashaVampie Also would love to see ur board if u do 6d
AshleyHoss820 As a fellow mood-reader, I love the BookSpin challenge that @TheAromaofBooks does every year. I‘m still doing the 1,001 books. I also found, from some devious Litten, the Hardest Reading Challenge You‘ll Ever Do. Created by Qwordy on YouTube, it‘s a year-long challenge beginning on July 7th. It‘s so difficult, it‘s actually meant to not be completed, but instead to broaden your reading horizons. Happy reading in ‘26, no matter what you choose! (edited) 6d
Kitta I did #LGBTQIA25 which is a book bingo that has a challenge on StoryGraph and #queerbc which also has a StoryGraph challenge. There‘s #ohcanada for some Canadian reads and I‘m going to attempt the #192030 challenge. I‘m also attempting the #vivillon challenge in 2026 (reading books from different countries based on the Pokémon regions lol). 6d
Amiable @AshleyHoss820 I‘m intrigued—what makes it the hardest reading challenge ever? The number of books? The difficulty of the texts? A compressed timeframe? Inquiring minds need to know! 6d
CBee @vivastory that‘s my challenge 😊 I just pick a card (I had a deck but now make my own) and you read a book that fits the prompt. I posted this month‘s prompt Monday 👍🏻 6d
TheAromaofBooks I try to stick with challenges that are somewhat flexible or that I can use to reduce my TBR (which is comprised of books I WANT to read haha). So I've really enjoyed the #Roll100 challenge hosted by @PuddleJumper as well as #ReadorDonate by @julieclair who also hosts the #MonthlyNonfiction And @Librarybelle is getting ready to start a new five-year challenge #192030 as well!! 6d
merelybookish I am taking a break from any formal challenges but toying with trying to read mostly Canadian lit in 2026. I'm thinking of aiming for 80% so I still have room for moods or book club pics, etc. 6d
DGRachel I burned out on challenges. The only thing I will be doing next year is #bookspin and that‘s only because I like making the graphics at the beginning of each month. 🤣🤣 Well, that and it‘s so flexible it allows for space for mood reading and there‘s no pressure. 6d
RaeLovesToRead HRCYED, PopSugar, and let's see what Book Riot's Read Harder is like! Those are the main ones I think... as well as Bookspin, Roll100 etc on here 😊 6d
RaeLovesToRead I don't aim to finish though because I'm far too distractible 6d
MaleficentBookDragon I love the #Bookspin challenge by @TheAromaofBooks. I've been doing that one for years.

I also do two on #GoodReads.
The #DustyBookShelf by the Challenge Factory and #MountTBR. Here are this year's links to check out-
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_folder/476813?group_id=55345 https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1256310-mount-tbr-challenge-2025

I like all these because they are to work down my TBR & they are books I WANT to read.
6d
MaleficentBookDragon @DGRachel Me too! I have kept my Photoshop subscription just because I love making the graphics (yeah I'm a little weird). 6d
DGRachel @MaleficentBookDragon It‘s why I can‘t cancel my Canva subscription! 🤣🤣🤣 6d
AshleyHoss820 @Amiable I think what makes HRCYED so difficult is a combo of all the above! 😂 She has white prompts & purple prompts, one of which is set in stone, the other is more customizable. There are also SO MANY PROMPTS and many require multiple books to complete. For example: Disability Rep needs 5 (I think) different books representing 5 different disabilities. Check out Qwordy‘s YouTube, if you‘re curious! She does a wonderful job explaining it! ☺️ 5d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I'll be doing Food & Lit, 192030, and I'll see what I can get done with the 52 Book Club & PopSugar. I'm trying to read more from what's already on my shelves, and since F&L tends to need library resources, I'll do what I can without forcing myself to choose a book that doesn't interest me. This thread has me intrigued by HRCYED though! 5d
vivastory @CBee I just saw your recent prompt. I 💙 Japanese mysteries 4d
vivastory @merelybookish Your Canadian lit challenge sounds fun! I'll definitely be keeping an eye out 4d

#Read2025 #MonthlyNonFiction #SheSaid

Finished this morning for #SundayBuddyRead this was a engaging memoir about an amazing woman. A gifted artist & writer, this book focuses on her time with Pablo Picasso & could be titled “Surviving Picasso” who was a giant ass hat man baby. It‘s hard to separate the frustration with the man from his art, but the real interest in book is Francoise‘s perspective on his art & her own. Thanks to the fabulous ⬇️

DebinHawaii … hosting & research of the wonderful Christine @thebookhippie the book was even better brought to life & I learned so much about Gilot & the other artists of the times. Therese background of this review is one of my favorites of hers, Paloma à la Guitare, a picture of her daughter Paloma. Truly a fascinating book. 1w
TheBookHippie I loved it so much. 1w

vlwelser That's a great painting. I really like her stuff. I was maybe a little surprised that she seems to have basically imitated other peoples styles for quite a while. But she was also 40 years younger than this creepy old man. I'm guessing this one is from later on. 1w
DebinHawaii @vlwelser Sotheby‘s says it was painted in London in 1965. 1w
vlwelser After she went on her own path. Good for her. I approve. 1w

#Read2025 #MonthlyNonFiction

Can you tell I‘m trying to catch up on reviews today? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I finished this one a couple weeks ago; it was assigned reading for our executive retreat/business review. I was not enthused going into it because the cover & title seemed too new-agey for my tastes but I was pleasantly surprised that there were a lot of great leadership nuggets inside this quick read that I will take away & practice.

DieAReader Wonderful♥️♥️ 1w
julieclair I agree about the cover and title. Glad it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! 1w

Read & listened to for #AuthorAMonth November #JoanDidion I meant to read more Joan Didion this month rather than rereading this one, read years ago, but I didn‘t get around to it. I went between my e-book & audiobook read (excellently) by Vanessa Redgrave. This book was illuminating to me when I was dealing with my own grief from my mom‘s passing & I think Didion captures the feeling well, both the large & ⬇️

DebinHawaii … small moments. It‘s a book I am sure I‘ll go back to yet again. A favorite quote: “Grief is different. Grief has no distance. Grief comes in waves, paroxysms, sudden apprehensions that weaken the knees and blind the eyes and obliterate the dailiness of life.”

#Read2025

Finished earlier this week for #RiseUpReads 2025 & #MonthlyNonFiction this was a beautiful & inspiring little book about reciprocity, gratitude & and a push for a gift economy seen through the lens of nature. Braiding Sweetgrass has been in my TBR for ages & now I feel like I should move it up.

DieAReader 🎉🎉🎉 1w
AnnCrystal I was lucky to find Braiding Sweetgrass at my local REI store...it was an incredible read 👏🏼☺️📚💝. 1w
LeeRHarry I have this out from the library atm - looking forward to it. 😊 1w
julieclair I loved this book! I listened on audio, but want to buy a “real” copy so I can mark passages and write in the margins. 1w

#Read2025 #MonthlyNonFiction

Finished for #ChildrensClassicRead2025 I‘m sure I read this back in middle school but revisiting it in October was perfect for the season. I meant to reread The Crucible as a companion, but ran out of time. Amazing what havoc a group of young girls started, perpetuated by the patriarchy & resulting in the unnecessary imprisonment, ruin & death of so many. Jackson breaks in down in a way that is accessible to all.

TheBookHippie I feel it‘s so well done. It‘d be wonderful in a classroom. 1mo
julieclair I was planning to read this, too, but finished reading The Manningtree Witches (similar story, but in England) and decided I needed a break from witch trials for awhile. Too sad. @TheBookHippie 1mo

#Read2025 #MonthlyNonFiction

Finished last weekend for #SheSaid & my third #Roll100 October pick #38 Any nonfiction. A sobering (because I‘m well into the hag camp age-wise) read about the demonization of 40+ aged women. The author hits some points well but lost me in others especially when her points were more chaotic. It was interesting & provocative which is why it gets a pick, but I‘m not sure I learned that much new from reading it.🤷🏻‍♀️

julieclair Great, helpful review. Makes me feel I‘d like to read a summary or outline of this book, or hear a lecture on it, but not read the whole book. 1mo

Hello Nonfiction fans! What will everyone be reading for November?

For those who like to plan ahead, I will be continuing #MonthlyNonfiction2025 next year, but dropping the year from the name, so the new hashtag will be simply #MonthlyNonfiction. Same rules: read at least one nonfiction book each month. I‘ll do a StoryGraph challenge as well, for those who like to track that way.

mcctrish I always forget this 🤦🏻‍♀️ 1mo
TheBookgeekFrau I finished the challenge this month with 1mo
See All 14 Comments
rockpools Thanks for the tag 😊. Tracking things is completely beyond me at the moment, but my November NF read will either be this one about the importance of racial diversity in children‘s books (and classic literature etc): 1mo
rockpools Or, if I actually get that read in October, Novembers might be about swifts, and the campaign to make swift bricks compulsory in uk new-builds. Although having just opened it, the font size is horrible, so I may not get through it… 1mo
ferskner I failed miserably this year (due to other reading projects) but I'm eager to try again next year! 1mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I wanted to read 1 NF book per month this year, and that didn't happen. Fingers crossed that I do better next year. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 1mo
Rissreadswithcats It has been a very busy year this year for me so I haven‘t reached my goal but I‘m keen to try again next year! 🩷 1mo
TheAromaofBooks While I have done a terrible job posting about it, I've actually been keeping up on this challenge!! I haven't picked out my November book yet, but I seem to have two shelves of biographies, so it shouldn't be a problem 😂 1mo
julieclair @mcctrish I find that challenges like this one, where everyone reads a different book and there‘s no discussion, are easier to forget about. But I also love challenges like this because there‘s no pressure to keep up. I‘m definitely into no-stress low-key these days! 😘 1mo
julieclair @TheBookgeekFrau I have been wanting to read that! 1mo
julieclair @rockpools Both of these sound like important books. I had no idea swifts were endangered in Britain. 😢 1mo
julieclair @ferskner @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @Rissreadswithcats I hear you! I missed some months, too, but overall I read more nonfiction than I would have without the challenge. Glad you‘re all continuing for 2026! 😀 1mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks Woo hoo! And… the reading is more important than the posting. 😉 Two shelves of biographies…. obviously all shelved together…. you‘ve come a long way from earlier this year when you had moved to a new house and were randomly pulling books out of boxes, lol. Good work!👍 1mo
