Currently reading this little gem and feeling better. I will say I just wanted to share a blast from the past! My son found my first library card. It‘s amazing how library system has changed through the years but this little card started it all! #tbt #library #oldschool

#SoaringScores #TheHunting I‘m going #OldSchool today...read this story about a boy and his beloved hunting dogs with each of my kids, as assigned reading in fifth grade. It‘s very sad 😢 I teared up each read. What childhood classic makes you #TearyEyed ?!???

JennyM I just read Charlotte‘s Web with my two and we were all a bit teary in that one. (edited) 5y
Pogue In school we were supposed to read this book. I read the first chapter and stopped, it was already upsetting to me. As a “reward” we got to watch the movie. Not only did I end up crying I had to go to the nurses office, I was crying so hard I threw up. I still can‘t read this book. 5y
TrishB @JennyM that‘s definitely a sad one! But my daughter hated it for obvious reasons! For me Warhorse! 5y

Centique Anne of Green Gables 😰😰😰 5y
Cinfhen THAT story @Pogue I understand how traumatic that experience must have been. Thanks for sharing 🙃Yes!!!! @JennyM soooo sad 😢 and I‘ve yet to read or see War Horse but I‘ve been told it‘s an #InfiniteTissueRead @TrishB 5y
Cinfhen Hi @Centique !!!!! Miss you!!!! #ConfessionTime I‘ve never read Anne of Green Gables... each time i‘ve started it, I bailed. 🙈 (edited) 5y
Centique @Cinfhen understandable. I read it at about 9, I don‘t know what it‘s like reading it as an adult! Must try one day. Hello to you too! My reading has slowed down a bit this month. 😐#burnout 5y
Megabooks Omg, cried so hard with this one as a kid! I was so sensitive in elementary school and middle school! 😭 5y
Cinfhen @Megabooks and then you choose to become a veterinarian ❤️🙌🏻#KindGentleSoul you are 😘 5y
Cinfhen @Centique are you on summer holiday soon?? 5y
Centique @Cinfhen not until mid December. Our schools stop about a week before Christmas and then off till February. Looking forward to some warmth 🌞🌞🌞 You have any holidays coming up? 5y
Cinfhen Nope!!! The swarm of Jewish Holidays just ended this week @Centique My parents are still visiting but they are currently on a cruise 🚢 My old college roommate is coming to visit in November and another friend is coming over to visit Christmas week. 5y
Centique @Cinfhen I saw you saying about all the cooking and prep that was going on! You deserve some relax time now. Enjoy your friends visit! 💕 5y
CarolynM @Cinfhen @Centique I read all the Anne books in my 20's and loved them (I had a period of catching up all the books I should have been reading during the previous 10 or so years when I read a lot of books that were very age inappropriate😏) My childhood sob-my-heart-out book was 5y
CrowCAH It is a sad tale 😢 🐕 5y

I was reading an old paper back of my moms. And discovered this at the end of the book. I so remember these. I never actually use them to buy a book back in the day. Has anyone? #oldschool #preamazon

Hooked_on_books I never used them, either, but that‘s a great little bit of nostalgia! 5y
Crazeedi Remember them well, but never had money to buy! 5y
LisaJo @Hooked_on_books I like that you used nostalgia. Cuz I was using old. 🤦🏻‍♀️ @Crazeedi me either...especially due to being a kid. We went to the library a lot. Funded my love of libraries for life. 5y
Crazeedi @LisaJo yes libraries were my love, we had a traveling library that came to our rural village. You could go into the van, or a lady kept a small library in her basement that they kept books from main library too. I remember the smell of that van...😍 5y
Crazeedi @LisaJo traveling library was summer, of course the school library when in session 5y

Re-reading this older Nora Roberts. It holds up surprisingly well for a book that's over 15 years old. #romantsy #oldschool

Daisey This is one of the few random books by Nora Roberts I‘ve read, and I remember enjoying it. 5y

Time for the bookish discussion question of the day 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Here it is: I think I‘ve asked this before, but aside from Goodreads, Litsy, and LibraryThing, where do you go online for all things books? I‘m revamping my library‘s Reader‘s Advisory Guide sub-page, and I‘m looking to compare what‘s there already and what can be added. Thank you!!! 🤗 #BookTalk

Rachel.Rencher Bookstagram! 5y
LauraBytheBook Several podcasts (What Should I Read Next, All the Books, Book Cougars, Just the Right Book, The Librarian is In), and tons of channels on Booktube (bookish channels on YouTube). 5y
RainyDayReading Mostly Booktube or Bookstagram. If I want a specific genre (like Fantasy) I‘ll look at the Reddit page for it. 5y

Lynnsoprano You‘ve just named all my sources, so I don‘t have anything to add. I think @Ambrosnazzy mentioned something else recently, but it sounded redundant to me. (I miss her being here, but her life is high stress and super busy. I know she misses her Litsy family). 5y
KarenUK Podcasts.... Books and Authors (BBC) is my favorite.... it has 2 shows under this title... A Good Read, and Open Book. Also I follow the Richard & Judy book club podcast and the B&N podcast. 5y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Pinterest. Before I found Litsy this is where I built my TBR from. 5y
DGRachel In addition to the apps you mentioned, I subscribe to just about every newsletter Book Riot publishes. There‘s usually a ton of good information. I also follow several authors on Facebook and Twitter and I add books they recommend to my TBR because the best authors are readers, too. 5y
Lcsmcat The New York Times Review of Books. It‘s not an app, but you can find it online. 5y

Station Eleven: A novel | Emily St. John Mandel
post image
Pickpick

I usually read in spurts, but from 7 am to 12 pm I found myself unable to put this down until I reached the end. Was it because this tale of a traveling symphony and theater troupe playing to the few survivors of a global flu epidemic was action-packed? Nope, but St. John Mandel knew exactly how to stoke my curiosity. In her dreamy world, history and fiction hide behind the daily routines of the characters and end up shaping their fate.

DarcysMom Great review! 5y
Billypar In a #TimbitTunes aside, my edition of this book #cutslikeaknife because Vintage chose to cut the dual crossed knives in the previous edition from this cover 😉 @TheKidUpstairs @Cinfhen 5y
LiterRohde One of my favorite books. I find myself coming back to it again and again for discussion and quote challenges. It‘s the book that comes to mind when asked for recommendations. I think it is such a thoughtful message on finding what is important to you and going for it and holding on. About what we gain when we lose. 5y

TheKidUpstairs I loved this one. At a time when the market seemed somewhat overrun with dystopian/ post apocalyptic stories, this seemed like a fresh and beautiful take. 5y
Billypar @DarcysMom Thanks! ☺️ 5y
Billypar @LiterRohde @TheKidUpstairs Yeah I think it's one that will stick with me too. The story is framed so well that in not so many pages we get to witness entire lives lived on both sides of the pandemic. Seeing both societies side by side is so interesting- usually we either get the collapse itself or something that's much further into the future. 5y
SpeculativeFemale That one was hard to put down. So unique and compelling. 5y
RohitSawant Great review! 5y
Cinfhen Beautiful review and a favorite book! I agree with what @LiterRohde touched upon... the idea about what we hold important and the weight of what one takes for granted really stayed with me. I loved this book even though I didn‘t care for the whole comic book angle. 5y
Cathythoughts On my TBR , yes a beautiful review... must get to it soon ( I don‘t know the story , would it work for #clifi @Cinfhen ? ♥️) 5y
Cinfhen I don‘t think so @Cathythoughts but honestly it‘s your challenge so if u feel it works then I‘m 100% ok with it!!!! It‘s dystopian but it was a virus that brought on destruction not a climate related tragedy 5y
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen thanks for that , no , I‘d rather stick to the prompt properly 👍🏻😘 5y
Billypar @SpeculativeFemale Yeah I'm pretty good at putting books down usually, but not for this one! 5y
Billypar @rohit-sawant Thanks! ☺️ 5y
Billypar @Cinfhen Agreed: it wasn't a book that was preachy about taking things for granted or being too dependent on technology but it really made you feel those things in a deeper way in how it portrayed living two decades without electricity. 5y
Billypar @Cathythoughts @Cinfhen This is the first I'm hearing of the term cli-fi- how perfect! Butler's Parable books come to mind. Also the tagged book, which I know many like- I wasn't a fan though. 5y
Cathythoughts Thanks Vinny ...♥️👍🏻it‘s for the #Booked2019 challenge. I‘d never heard of this term before now either ... it‘s a fun challenge @Cinfhen 5y
Cinfhen Glad you‘re enjoying the challenge @Cathythoughts ❣️❣️❣️❣️you‘re really flying through the prompts 🙌🏻💟 5y
LiterRohde @Cinfhen From one rule follower to another, it can really get in the way sometimes, can‘t it? The fear of doing something “wrong”. Sheesh. Maybe it‘s just me. 🤪 5y
Blaire I absolutely love this book. 5y
Billypar @Blaire I felt so left out before I read it with all of the love it gets: now I can join the chorus ☺️ 5y
Cinfhen My kids certainly think so @LiterRohde 😂😂😂They ARE NOT big Rule followers 😜 5y
