Fleabag (NHB Modern Plays) | Phoebe Waller-Bridge
post image

A great start to the year!

- completed Lisa Jewell for B&N bookclub. Not groundbreaking but fun page-turner.
- read the original Fleabag play. Lots of great background stuff from Phoebe about how the character came about. Loved it!
- Backman novella for #authoramonth which hit very close to home. #infinitetissueread 😢
- Still working on my Gentleman in Moscow audio!
- Started The Lover in print, and Twenty-One truths on kindle.👍

TrishB Great week 👍🏻 2w
Cathythoughts Yes , A great start to the year 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2w
Cinfhen 21 Truths is really fun!!! I‘m saving the Backman for #ReadWithMrBook #TearJerker next month (edited) 2w

Eventide | Kent Haruf
post image

Just a magnificent follow up to Plainsong. Kent Haruf was a master of capturing everyday triumphs and hardships with the most simplistic prose. I recommend reading Plainsong first. I‘ve already purchased the final book of this trilogy, Benediction. 5 BIG HEARTFELT stars. #InfiniteTissueRead I may go back and reread Our Souls At Night after I read Benediction. I feel like I might have missed subtle references to past characters.

TrishB So Plainsong is currently #99ponkindle 😁 2mo
Centique Okay well I have to gird my heart and get back in to this one then! 2mo
Cinfhen Buy Plainsong @TrishB I don‘t think you‘ll be disappointed and just get your tissues ready @Centique and you too @TrishB I shed a few tears with both books 💕💕 2mo
BarbaraBB This sounds so good. Great review!! 2mo
TrishB Have done 👍🏻 you know I can‘t resist a 99p! 2mo

I fear this is going to be an #infinitetissueread 😭Good thing I‘m still reading a lighter book, because I‘m going to need to balance my emotions @Hooked_on_books

Hooked_on_books I‘m actually alternating back and forth with this fabulous book so I don‘t get buried in sadness: 2mo
RachelO This is wise. 💔 2mo

The Light Between Oceans | M. L. Stedman
post image

I‘m posting this in response to @ljuliel ‘s Challenge to #LetsKeepLitsyActive by posting a book that moved us emotionally.

Could post many but The Light Between Oceans challenged my moral compass and made me cry long ugly tears! 😢😭😢😭😢😭😢😭😢 Such a great book and stayed with me. ❣️😍

What book moved you emotionally? Amy emotions. #BooksMoveUsEmotionally

TheBookHippie I‘ve thrown a few books in my day as all #BOTMBUDDYREADERS know. However Girl in Pieces had me sobbing in recognising myself as a teen and all the teens I mentor now and in the past 2mo
Andrew65 @TheBookHippie Can certainly see why! And I always worry about your walls and ornaments. #ChuckMyBook 2mo
TheBookHippie @Andrew65 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I‘ve only debated books so far ...😱 2mo

Crazeedi This year this one, but there are others... 2mo
TheAromaofBooks Gah, this book got me, too! I thought the author did a really amazing job making Isabelle a sympathetic character even when I disagreed with her. I cried buckets over this one. 2mo
Crazeedi Also this one stuck with me because I couldn't believe someone who grew up in these circumstances made something of herself 2mo
MrBook 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2mo
Cinfhen I LOVED your tagged book!!!! This one tore me up 2mo
Andrew65 @Cinfhen Yes same for me with Sarah‘s Key! 2mo
Tove_Reads I read it on the train, but had to stop because I kept on crying. Had to finish the book and the crying at home instead. 2mo
Tove_Reads This one is nearly impossible to process 2mo
Andrew65 Some great books to explore. Thanks @Tove_Reads 2mo
gradcat @Andrew65 It‘s the memoirs for me, like @crazeedi ... particularly the tagged book & “Mayhem” by Sigrid Rausing. Great convo topic, Andrew! 👍 2mo

Can‘t believe it‘s #TheEnd of October 🎃Thanks to my fabulous cohost @CrowCAH for providing us with a month of #SoaringScores 🎼 I read the tagged book years ago and it really left an indelible impression on me. A simple question, “what are you currently reading?” leads to an unforgettable experience for both a dying mom and her adult son. #InfiniteTissueRead

Please join me tomorrow for #MOVember ~ a musical tribute to Madonna ❤️🎤

JennyM I loved this one...and I sobbed throughout! Looking forward to joining you tomorrow 😘 3mo
Cinfhen Yay @JennyM looking forward #GetIntoTheGroove 💋 3mo

#SoaringScores #TheHunting I‘m going #OldSchool today...read this story about a boy and his beloved hunting dogs with each of my kids, as assigned reading in fifth grade. It‘s very sad 😢 I teared up each read. What childhood classic makes you #TearyEyed ?!???

JennyM I just read Charlotte‘s Web with my two and we were all a bit teary in that one. (edited) 3mo
Pogue In school we were supposed to read this book. I read the first chapter and stopped, it was already upsetting to me. As a “reward” we got to watch the movie. Not only did I end up crying I had to go to the nurses office, I was crying so hard I threw up. I still can‘t read this book. 3mo
TrishB @JennyM that‘s definitely a sad one! But my daughter hated it for obvious reasons! For me Warhorse! 3mo

Centique Anne of Green Gables 😰😰😰 3mo
Cinfhen THAT story @Pogue I understand how traumatic that experience must have been. Thanks for sharing 🙃Yes!!!! @JennyM soooo sad 😢 and I‘ve yet to read or see War Horse but I‘ve been told it‘s an #InfiniteTissueRead @TrishB 3mo
Cinfhen Hi @Centique !!!!! Miss you!!!! #ConfessionTime I‘ve never read Anne of Green Gables... each time i‘ve started it, I bailed. 🙈 (edited) 3mo
Centique @Cinfhen understandable. I read it at about 9, I don‘t know what it‘s like reading it as an adult! Must try one day. Hello to you too! My reading has slowed down a bit this month. 😐#burnout 3mo
Megabooks Omg, cried so hard with this one as a kid! I was so sensitive in elementary school and middle school! 😭 3mo
Cinfhen @Megabooks and then you choose to become a veterinarian ❤️🙌🏻#KindGentleSoul you are 😘 3mo
Cinfhen @Centique are you on summer holiday soon?? 3mo
Centique @Cinfhen not until mid December. Our schools stop about a week before Christmas and then off till February. Looking forward to some warmth 🌞🌞🌞 You have any holidays coming up? 3mo
Cinfhen Nope!!! The swarm of Jewish Holidays just ended this week @Centique My parents are still visiting but they are currently on a cruise 🚢 My old college roommate is coming to visit in November and another friend is coming over to visit Christmas week. 3mo
Centique @Cinfhen I saw you saying about all the cooking and prep that was going on! You deserve some relax time now. Enjoy your friends visit! 💕 3mo
CarolynM @Cinfhen @Centique I read all the Anne books in my 20's and loved them (I had a period of catching up all the books I should have been reading during the previous 10 or so years when I read a lot of books that were very age inappropriate😏) My childhood sob-my-heart-out book was 3mo
CrowCAH It is a sad tale 😢 🐕 3mo

My Name Is Why | Lemn Sissay
post image

This book is amazing & I cannot recommend it highly enough. A heartbreaking story of a stolen childhood. It's a great reflection on Lemn Sissay that he managed to not only survive such an unfair & brutal system but to go on to achieve what his talent deserves, but you should also be angry that he had to,& you have to wonder how many children have been left broken by the failings in the care system. How many ruined lives, how much wasted potential.

arlenefinnigan It's also important to point out that, while he was failed by the system, the kindnesses shown by some stand out - the social worker who fought his corner and stressed that the rejection by his foster parents wasn't his fault; the teacher who recognised his talent for poetry and gave him a copy of The Mersey Sound; the woman from the National Association of Young People In Care who gave him a biography of Bob Marley. 3mo
arlenefinnigan Also, I love that each chapter starts with a poem. A fantastic read. I read it in print but having listened to some excerpts from the audiobook on radio 4, I think the audiobook would be a great way to enjoy it. 3mo
Cinfhen Sounds like an #InfiniteTissueRead 😭😭😭 3mo
arlenefinnigan @Cinfhen oh it really is. A lot of humour in there, but... A lot of very wrong things. 3mo

Every Friday night as tradition dictates, my husband recites the following blessing to our children before we sit down for Shabbat dinner. “May God bless you and protect you. May God‘s face shine toward you and show you favor. May God look favorably upon you and grant you peace.” These words are the last Max Eisen will hear from his father as he placed his hands upon Max‘s head through the barbed wires of Auschwitz. 👇🏼

Cinfhen After being separated from every immediate family member (a total of 60 innocent souls) Max is the only one left to give testament to the evils he witnessed & experienced.
With bravery, brains & a bit of “luck” Max was able to persevere the death camps of Auschwitz and live through the 1945 Death March. His account of endurance and strength will move you.
Cinfhen Thank you @TrishB for another wonderful book 💋 #InfiniteTissueRead 4mo
TrishB He was a brave soul ♥️ 4mo

marleed Beautiful review. 4mo
Cinfhen As the years go by, fewer and fewer survivors are left to tell their stories @TrishB @marleed I‘m passing this book unto my son who will be traveling to Poland with his senior grade to learn about and view the remains of Auschwitz and other concentration camps from a survivor. 4mo
Mollyanna I‘m tearing up just reading your review! 😢. It‘ll break my heart a thousand times, but I‘m stacking it. 4mo
Cinfhen Tissues are required @Mollyanna but knowing Max survives and seeing him publish an award winning memoir does make this book more bearable to handle. ❤️ 4mo
Cathythoughts Beautiful words in your blessing ♥️ 4mo
mrp27 I heard a survivor speak last April in LA at the Museum of Tolerance and it was hands down the most visceral, profound experience I've ever had, I was ugly crying. When the speaker was asked why she choose to tell her story that is what she said, fewer survivors are left and for those that don't believe it happened. Her name was Eva Brettler and she was a child survivor. 4mo
Cinfhen I‘ve heard a few survivors speak and each time their story is slightly different and I learn something more. It‘s a privilege and honor to hear these first hand testaments @mrp 4mo
Cinfhen Thank you @Cathythoughts ✡️💟☮️ 4mo
LeahBergen Oh, I CRIED when this won Canada Reads this year and they telephoned him live to tell him he won. 😭😭😭 4mo
Cinfhen Oh, that would have set me off in tears too @LeahBergen 😭 4mo
JennyM Your review has made me cry, so I can‘t imagine the book. Beautiful words, Cindy ❤️ 4mo
TrishB I‘m glad the book is travelling with your son ❤️ 4mo
Hollie I really need to read this ASAP! 4mo
Cinfhen You really should @Hollie and I still want to read a book you mentioned a long while back 4mo
Cinfhen Thank you so much @JennyM 😘😘 4mo
Centique Beautiful review 😰 and paired with beautiful photo 😍🌸💕 4mo
Cinfhen Thanks so much @Centique are you guys getting ready for summer holiday soon??? 4mo
Centique @Cinfhen we‘re just about to hit school holidays at the end of September. We‘ve got a small holiday planned at the bottom of the South Island. Spring temps will be about 65 Fahrenheit down there? Will be super pretty though 🌲🌳🌷 4mo
Centique @Cinfhen we don‘t usually get hot here until December. Christmas by the pool with strawberries and champagne (if I‘m lucky!) 4mo
Hollie @Cinfhen yes! You definitely should 😘 4mo

Thank you Mitchell Zuckoff and Harper Collins audio for presenting the most comprehensive yet compassionate account of 9/11. Many times throughout the audio I was brought to tears. A moving and elegant tribute to victims, survivors, rescue workers, responders, loved ones, and ordinary citizens who played either a large part or small part that day. Even during the darkest of times, human kindness shone bright. Five stars and an #InfiniteTissueRead

4thhouseontheleft I have a difficult out time reading 9/11 books. Maya read a middle grade fiction one two years ago, and I read it with her and was a sobbing mess. 😭 4mo
Cinfhen Sobbing Mess accurately describes me as I listened to this book @4thhouseontheleft 😭😭😭if 9/11 books are still too emotionally difficult for you, I would definitely stay away from this one. It will open any wound not healed💔 (edited) 4mo
