I could just hear Little Ann and Old Dan howling in the book.
Of course, I did my own howling at the end.

My mom read to me, but the book I remember being read to in 4th grade was Where the Red Fern Grows. Ms. Littrell, our teacher, hadn't read it beforehand, so when she got to the (ahem) emotional part, she had to leave the room because she was crying so hard. She didn't come back for a while. We all sat there sniffling.
Forward 20 years, and I did the EXACT SAME THING except it was 7th graders and the book was The Red Pony. 🤦♀️
My third grader is reading this in school and I decided I should re-read so we can cry together 😭
A charming story, I did not expect to cry but gosh darn 😭 Read as for the February #Buzzwordathon - colours 4/5
How did I forget to add this to my current reading list?!
This is THE book for me...the one that got me emotionally invested in reading. I loved reading before, but not like this. I typically don‘t reread books, so this was the first time revisiting it since my childhood. My son and I cried for a good 45 minutes after the last few chapters. He had all the feels 😍 Kinda feel a teeny bad for putting him through that pain.
Starting this Junior Fiction today before I read it with my girls (8 & 12yrs), just checking it through first as I've had some warnings from other readers but I don't want to read too many summaries at I might find out too much of the story.
Lol, my girls keep asking how it's going! I've only just started. So far, so good.
Here‘s my update for #JumpStart2021, #BookSpin, and #BFC2021 all in one go! 😜 So far I‘ve finished 18 books in total, 10 of which were from my #bookspin list, and only 1 from my #TBRDeckofCards. I‘ve been staying on track with my #BFC21 goals, and have started to see results after four weeks of being on my new diet! Happy so far with how the year has started, and hoping to stay ahead of my goals!
The first book to make me cry, I finally own a copy. 💛📚
Hey hey I‘m taking part of #littenlisten and hoping to wrap up my reread of the classic tagged. I also finished Pet this morning and have two more full audios planned before I start on maybe a November audio. @aperfectmjk perfect for @StayCurious #scarathlon2020 #teamharkness
#3books #booksthatmademecry
I‘ve cried while reading countless books but these 3 made me ugly cry my eyes out.
Here‘s my elementary school book list. I tried to pick books that have both stuck with me and were actually assigned reading (rather than ones I sought out myself and read for fun).
1. Depends what age. I love music and have always had an eclectic taste, it‘s hard to choose just one as THE favorite. The one that currently comes to mind is Son of Man from the Tarzan soundtrack by Phil Collins.
2. My husband always being by my side and finding ways to make me laugh every day. I‘m very grateful to be married to such a wonderful person.
Thanks very much for the tag @Eggs 😊❤️

EDIT: Forgot to tag people! 🤦♀️😅
#7days7books Books that changed me or left a deep impression
This was the first book to ever make me cry. I couldn't put it down while I was reading it (I finished it way ahead of when we were supposed to in our class - and so did most of my classmates) I just loved it. I'll never forget the experience of reading it for the first time.
Day 11 - #WeepingWednesday #MagnificentMarch
This book will definitely make you weep!
Just finished up this book for our book club discussion tomorrow. I haven‘t read it in more than 20 years and honestly forgot almost everything about it. That‘s why these rereads are so good for me - to remember the story and read it with a fresh (older) perspective.
Book that broke your heart: Where the Red Fern Grows. I remember reading this in 5the grade. I remember laying on the couch with my face in the cushions just sobbing after I finished this book. 😭 First book ever that made me cry.
Such a beautiful book about faith and the love between a boy and his dogs. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was assigned reading in 4th grade and I remember my mom walking past my room as I finished it, tears streaming down my face. Luckily she was also a reader so she completely understood the power of a book and it‘s ability to break your heart. Fast forward 20 something years and I‘m heartbroken once again. Still one of my favorites regardless. #24b4monday #teamslaughter 11 hours and 20 minutes
#SoaringScores #TheHunting I‘m going #OldSchool today...read this story about a boy and his beloved hunting dogs with each of my kids, as assigned reading in fifth grade. It‘s very sad 😢 I teared up each read. What childhood classic makes you #TearyEyed ?!???
This is a hard one for me. There where a few books that I had great love for when I was a child. The one that sticks out in my mind is Where the Red Fren Grows. #mbcreadathon #MBCfrogsread8

I‘m a 62 year old man and I still can‘t read this book without having a tear in my eye. I think this book is one of the sweetest books ever. If you‘ve never read it get yourself your own copy because you will want to read it over and over. I‘ve read it At least 20 times over the years and I never tired of it. It is Beautiful.
I nice old read, interesting from as a dusty old American books perspective.
Just read this for the 1st time. And now I guess I‘m gonna be sad the rest of the day.
Congrats @Crazeedi on your milestone!! #20kGiveaway
The first book I remember reading is Where the Red Fern Grows. The adventures of Old Dan and Little Ann were so wonderful. And no matter how many times I reread it, this one still makes me cry. 💛🐕
It was a good month in books. I finished reading the tagged book to the kids tonight and could not keep from crying. 😭 My 5 year old said if it‘s so sad I should eat the pages 🤣
#Finale #ANewChapter
I'll play...
1. I read anything and everything but remember Where the Red Fern Grows particularly fondly.
2 exploring the neighborhood and later the hills near my house with my dog
3 dishes. Still hate dishes.
4 uh, probably my Star Wars action figures
5 Harry Potter. The adventures I would've had if it had been around when I was a kid
#hellothursday
A wonderful story full of life lessons in adversity, perseverance, friendship, love and death, beautifully and simply written in a manner that elementary school aged children can comprehend and learn from. How is missed this as a kid is beyond me.
"You were worth it, old friend, and a thousand times over."

2019 started off with another book crossed off The Great American Read list. I somehow lived my life not hearing about this book until this past summer. I read it for "life experience". It is a beautiful story. I can see how this book might be helpful with pre-teens beginning to experience life: its highs and lows. #wheretheredferngrows #wilsonrawls #litsy #DustyBookshelf #LitsyReads
Went to the #SHPL library today and saw this awesome display near the children‘s section!
Book and movie, anyone?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ How have I lived this long and never read this? I loved it. I loved Billy, Old Dan, Little Ann and oh how this book crushed me. Thanks to all the Littens who encouraged me to read it, was worth it.

I've put off reading this book for years because I'm pretty sure it's going to make me cry.
A simple but sweet story about a boy and his dogs. Definitely a tearjerker (animal stories will ALWAYS get me). I wasn‘t super impressed by the plot (not a fan of hunting), but probably a great relatable tale for many young boys, especially those who like dogs and/or hunting. #GARBingo
Latest Audiobook. For #GARBingo Round 2. What‘s the official Great American Read end date? This might be the last one I get to.
Working on arranging my “new” bookcases.
I spent yesterday afternoon here, enjoying the weather, listening to the homemade wind chimes and re-reading a favorite childhood classic.
