Memorial Day | Christin Ditchfield

While we celebrated yesterday to honor all who have valiantly served our country, the current president posts this absolute crap. Besides the SHOUTING CAPS and heinous words about pretty much everybody, he doesn't even thank ONE military person who died while in service. I just can't wrap my head around understanding ANYONE who voted for this sub-human. My face would burn with shame. Mr. President, I wear the badge of SCUM with pride.

With the proposed elimination of library, museum, humanities programs, and PBS funding, among other entities, it is imperative that voices are raised against these measures. My lifeblood is all about humanities—I‘m a librarian, after all—and it is terrifying that my skills are considered to be unimportant to the government. I‘d rant more, but I‘ll save that for another day.

It was not really reported in the news today, but DOGE made its way to the IMLS office this morning. Changes in leadership this morning has also greatly concerned libraries and museums, given the rhetoric used by the newly appointed director.

As a former public librarian, and one with a library degree, I am absolutely devastated. Libraries are for everyone. Librarians are not to censor, pass judgment, or hide truths. We have a code ⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️ that we uphold, a bill of rights for libraries. I am concerned for my friends and former colleagues who still work in public libraries and what they may have to do, and more specifically, what dangers they have to face. Libraries are not the enemy. And, librarians do not promote pornography to children. I‘m including links to some cites for more info and to contact your local representatives. I work in an academic library/archive, and we received a small IMLS grant for implementing digital preservation practices in our archive. I‘ve contacted my senators and congresswoman (though they are all Republicans who probably won‘t care 🙃) 2mo

Librarybelle Of course, @shortsarahrose ! I don‘t think many understand how much the grants funded through IMLS help with services in all libraries. Take that away, or put restrictions on it, and that hinders so much in a 21st-century library. 2mo

I of course had to post something snarky in response to her saying these daily postings give me hope & that knowledge is power. She is a person that doesn‘t read, she watches a certain channel all day. I told my husband the other day I‘m so happy that he is nothing like his parents. He said I got 3mo

I partially feel bad for her as an empath but I also think you need to unlearn that sh@t. My mom is the same age & she‘s worked hard to learn more about things she didn‘t know about. But then again I grew up in a house full of books. My mom‘s parents were immigrants but she said they 3mo

ncsufoxes @AmyG totally. My mom was telling me about one of her maga friends talking about trans athletes (my mom is anti maga). I kid you not a few days later my mil repeats the same line word for word to my husband (my mil is maga & loves faux news). My husband told her, “our kids have all gone to school with trans kids & they‘re just fine.” She didn‘t know how to respond. Fear, miseducation, repeating lies & stereotypes to the under educated are all what 3mo

ncsufoxes continue this mess. My mil lives in a fancy neighborhood but watches anyone who comes in her house (out the door or on the ring camera) because she‘s been convinced by the news that people are coming to rob her daily. She is afraid to unlearn anything from her past. My oldest went toe to toe with her over the summer about her “views,” she shut down & told him he was just wrong. She doesn‘t want to engage in any conversation. She twists her ideas 3mo

ncsufoxes to fit whatever narrative she wants it to fit into. She literally doesn‘t understand how this administration is affecting anyone on our house. She just sticks her head in the sand. I really think a lot of this is going to end when there is boots to the ground, going door to door to talk to people. Education is key & Civics class (edited) 3mo

I don‘t post about this. I am a firm believer everyone is entitled to their own opinions whether mine coincides with/against those. Watching the address while I personally know & see many hard working people suffering. Attacking our allies while our stock market plummets. My heart has fully broken for this country. Chrissyreadit I believe opinions that cause oppression, economic depression and disparity and are based on hate and ignorance are dangerous and impact innocent people including children, elderly, the disabled, POC , women, LGBTQ+, and allow only a privileged few billionaires to forever be unscathed are problematic to say the very least and observably dangerous to say more. ❤️ 3mo

TieDyeDude I don't know how he convinced a third of Americans that he has their best interest in mind, but Trump is a black-hearted, petty, manipulative, lying man-child. W. is the only other Republican I was aware of (I was too young to care about Regan or Sr), and while I didn't agree with a lot of what he said or did, I never thought he was a bad person. Now Republicans openly attack and disparage American citizens like it is a normal thing to do 😔 3mo
