peaKnit @kspenmoll it‘s fall in the morning, summer in the afternoon in WI too. Brrr. I‘m headed off for a shift at the library. I overslept taking my college kiddo to a volunteer gig because my alarm was on silent (how does that happen?!) - my husband let me sleep. Folks, I never sleep, this is a miracle. 🌟 1mo

quietlycuriouskate I'm meant to be on the Welsh coast now but because of Storm Amy we're not travelling until tomorrow 😒. On the plus side, multiple last-minute changes of plan have not triggered a meltdown so, given the circumstances, I'm actually feeling surprisingly buoyant. 1mo

dabbe Our Pippa had an epileptic episode this morning, so we're laying low with her. She's doing fine now, but we'll be staying close and keeping an eye on her. Of course that means lots of cuddles and book reading. Have a lovely weekend, everyone! 🧡💜💛 1mo

Librarybelle I‘m going to the library later today too, @AllDebooks ! Next week starts my temp work at the library of my undergrad days, so lots to do to prep not being home all the time. Eggbeater I had a stressful day yesterday, and I am using this weekend to recover. No news, take-out, PBS, books, online book club, and snuggling with my dog. If I happen to get some chores done, that would be a bonus, but I'm not pressuring myself. 3mo

Librarybelle Good morning! It‘s been a crazy week—I started a WFH temp job to help pay for Zeke‘s medical bills, and it‘s been crazy. I like the flexibility to work whenever, but the work is not always available, despite a requirement to work a certain number of hours per week. I need flexibility with Zeke‘s care, so I‘ll see how long I can handle this. 😂 It has really cut back on my reduced reading time. Hopefully I can get a good rhythm soon. 3mo

Roary47 I‘m going to try to take back my house in cleaning. Finding my work life balance is always hard for me. melissajayne Had friends over on Thursday evening and I was just so drained yesterday. Did basically nothing. I just sat in my chair and watched stuff on my TV and listened to podcasts. Had a good sleep that I just woke up from and feel surprisingly rested and content. 3mo

dabbe I can't believe how jet-lagged I still am from my trip (4 hours ahead in NB). Add to that, I need to relearn how to handle the heat. Since I've been home it's been 113, 115, 118, and 115. The dogs are grumpy because it's too hot to even walk outside. So, I need to stop bitching and find the good. I have a home with AC and pups who love me. What more do I need? 💙🩵💙 3mo

Librarybelle Thanks, @dabbe and @Deblovestoread ! Zeke is doing very well. He had a really rough patch a couple of weeks ago but has really bounced back. He also stopped eating the one food he had been eating but wanted a novel protein food he ate before his diagnosis, and he is so improved on this, acting mischievous at times. He still likes eating during the night, though, so I‘d love some restful sleep at some point! But, I‘d rather this than not have him. 3mo

Librarybelle Good morning! It‘s been another rollercoaster week, both personally and in the world. But, I‘m hoping to sleep this weekend (hardly any sleep the past few nights), read, and hang with cats. Because, you know, cats make everything better! 4mo

Sace I report back to work July 30 so I am spending every moment I can reading. Work thoughts creep in and I have to quash them. I‘m already thinking about the August TBR since traditionally I do NO reading in August and I don‘t want that to happen this year. Only thing on the agenda today is lunch at my favorite Thai restaurant. 4mo

kspenmoll I am back home from a few heavenly days in Mendon, VT. On my porch with coffee & a book, welcoming the morning.A break from the heat! Plan to walk with my neighbor after coffee, the laundry catch up,bring book donations to library. The afternoon id free for me. 4mo

And I was told it was horrendous! No regular bathroom use for 48hrs (they had to use the disposable liner toilets and all! 4mo

We went to the DC Zoo today & found out about bird friendly coffee. Did not know there was such a thing. My oldest wants to go to grad school & do bird research. He‘s already encouraged us to buy plants & flowers that are more native to the area to encourage more pollinators. He‘s becoming my conscience more when shopping or purchasing things. TieDyeDude Good morning! Just getting the day started here in AK. We have someone coming in about a half hour to rototill and reseed our lawn. It was really ugly when we moved in (very uneven, holes their dog dug), but the landlord doesn't pay for lawn care. I have been doing too much for six weeks straight- and am in a flare now 😵‍💫 which I expected, so laying low with coffee and library books ! Librarybelle I hope so, @kspenmoll ! It is good that tests are coming back negative. For Zeke, he is gaining weight, which is good and will help him when he goes through a non-eating phase again. He was too thin for his body type a few months ago. 5mo

Librarybelle Good morning! My area was under a tornado watch late last night, and I can see we had a storm, but thankfully no tornadoes. The cats were extra needy this morning, so I think the yucky weather had them riled up. It‘s my birthday weekend, so my mom is taking me to my favorite bookstore today and tomorrow (my birthday), my parents are taking me out to lunch. TheBookHippie Just rest and hydrate and getting ready to plant garden… my body requires me to rest today. 🙃 We have dinner at my brothers tomorrow to celebrate my son graduation. Monday is chores, Tuesday plant. Wednesday my birthday, Thursday daughter‘s birthday… busy time right now. 5mo

Bookwormjillk My son‘s birthday today! Waiting for pizza and then cake. A low key day although they dragged me to the mall earlier. I‘m like you @TheBookHippie - it‘s so busy my body is demanding rest. Which is fine since there‘s books, pizza, and cake nearby. We‘ll celebrate on Monday with a trip to Baltimore for a baseball game. Next week is graduating for the seniors + 8th grade promotion for my daughter. This is all fun stuff but also counting down to June. 5mo

Cuilin As I sip my coffee I haven‘t decided whether it‘s a run around and do all the things day or a rest day and read. The smart approach would be to strike a balance but my ADHD laughs in the face of such desires. 6mo

Today marks the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the US Revolutionary War, and I enjoyed reading Heather Cox Richardson‘s remarks about the events leading up to it. I got a new bird bath bowl for the birds recently. I ordered it off of Amazon because my old one that‘s made out of concrete is falling apart but the new one is lightweight. It‘s not as heavy as the old one. It‘s going to take a while for the birds to get used to the new bowl. Right now, they don‘t know what to think about it.

Librarybelle Nearly one week down…how many more to go??? On Monday, I started meditating again and really hope to make this a part of my daily life—I do well, and then something happens, and I stop. My irregular viewing of my non-Litsy social media platforms is going well, which means more reading time! Overall, though, I‘m trying to focus on the present and live in the moment. I‘m a pessimist by nature, and current events make me doubt a bright future. ⬇️ 9mo

Librarybelle ⬆️ My favorite band, Our Lady Peace, released a song in 2005 titled “Will the Future Blame Us,” and it‘s been going nonstop in my head all week. That and R.E.M.‘s “It‘s the End of the World As We Know It…” except I don‘t feel fine. On a positive note, I‘ve got fun plans for Sunday and hopefully a good afternoon of reading today. Plus, the first discussion of #ChristiesCapers ! 9mo

TheLudicReader Busy week of marking and chasing kids for missing assignments as semester one wraps up. Had several discussions regarding AI, too. 😖 I have quite a lot of marking to do today to be ready for submitting my marks on Monday, but I am going to make time for a visit to the bookstore and to do some reading. Chrissyreadit @Librarybelle I have felt disheartened but i think my love of history has helped a ton to know that this is an ugly cycle and there are plenty of reasons it has happened- but it is not permanent because nothing is. One of my big thoughts is there is a huge fear of how social media has been used for misinformation- but it‘s also feared because it spreads information. We will continue to read and share and i have hope ❤️ 9mo

Cuilin I got a steroid shot so for four days I had zero discomfort and got so much done. Working on some long term solutions with my doctor. Went to see David Grey with my daughters last night in Boston which was amazing. Librarybelle @Cuilin I use the Calm app. In 2020, they had a lifetime membership at a deep discount, so I splurged and bought all of the content. I did see this post from Mindful.org on free app options for meditation: https://www.mindful.org/free-mindfulness-apps-worthy-of-your-attention/ I‘ve not tried any of these, but Mindful is a good resource for meditation practices. 9mo

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I strained a muscle on the right side of my back, so during a week when I really need to release frustration through exercise, I'm limited to gentle stretches. It seems to be in the mend, though. Work was busy. It was so cold that I wore two pairs of pants. I covered for a sick colleague. BUT the weekend is here, and I'm hoping for some time to clean up a bit, to read, and enjoy the company of my guy and our dog. @Eggs Sending a hug your way. 💛 9mo

Sace I doomscrolled more than I should have this week but still way less than I have in the past. Thanks to snow days I had a lot of reading time which kept my mind of things. Kerrbearlib This week I made mental health a priority. I learned emotional regulation skills & spent less time online. I‘ve been inspired by this Maggie Smith quote: “It‘s not enough to “think positive‘; you have to ‘do positive‘…Do something today, however small, to light up your own life. Or shine on someone else.” It‘s a dark time in the world & I think it‘s so important to bring light whenever possible. ♥️♥️♥️

CatLass007 Today is #Caturday! Every day is #Caturday! The cats are the only reason I get out of bed some days. And they take very good care of me when I don‘t feel well like Thursday and Friday because I had migraines all day. Not fun, except for kitty snuggles. Today I feel much better. This book about coffee that you have tagged is making me very sad because I love coffee, but coffee doesn‘t love me anymore. I am still able to drink tea, (cont)⬇️ 9mo

CatLass007 even caffeinated tea, so it‘s not all bad. My physical health goal is to manage my pain levels, starting with migraines. My feeling is that once my migraines are no longer keeping me in bed most days. I will be able to leave the house for something other than doctor‘s appointments. I used to attend a fiber arts group and an open craft group at our senior citizen center but the instructor is now in a nursing home and those groups no longer (cont)⬇️ 9mo

I have spent a lot of time googling and have found a fiber arts group that meets every other Friday at the public library, and a group called Makerspace that meets on Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoons at another location. I also am looking at local book clubs and have found at least one that seems to be one in which I could participate. Maybe more. But until I get my physical health in better condition I won‘t be able to really (cont)⬇️ (edited) 9mo

CatLass007 go anywhere. I am working at ways to be more frugal, because I spend every month agonizing over every penny I spend. Mental health also is a major priority. I am looking for mentally healthy and effective ways to resist fascism in the United States. @Librarybelle @Cuilin @Sace I have tried Calm and didn‘t find it particularly helpful. I find guided meditation a frustrating experience mostly it‘s about breathing and noticing your body (cont)⬇️ (edited) 9mo

I have attended a meditation group that mostly focuses on breath work, but on two different occasions, we were led on more focused, guided meditation. Mentally walking across a field, through a forest,up a hill, etc. Those seem to work better for me. But that particular group no longer (cont)⬇️ 9mo

Still worried and freaking about things going on.

Deblovestoread I have to admit I‘m mostly angry, especially at the people I know who voted for this dumpster fire. So I‘m trying to use that to make some changes like get rid of Meta products, reduce my reliance on Amazon, etc. and also review the people in my everyday life. Here's a silly game I play when I want my brain to shut off: I take the alphabet and think of a category; then I try to come up with answers for each letter. Example: For “names of authors“ I might think “Alcott, Louisa“ or “Ann Patchett“ (both ways, of course). Then for B, maybe “Browning, Robert“ and so on. It really helps shut off my worries. 🩵🩶🩵 9mo

CatLass007 When I worked at HBO in Manhattan, I was able to look out the window in the cafeteria at the National Debt Clock across the street. It was kind of depressing watching the numbers keep climbing. Eventually, National Debt stopped climbing so steeply and the billionaire who put it up had it taken down. The National Debt is skyrocketing again and his Foundation put it back up. But even as slowly as the Trump countdown clock is going, it makes me happy 9mo

Two of my daughters live 3-4 hours away, though my youngest lives 20 minutes away and came for several hours last weekend to help with taking down the paintings and making trips to goodwill etc. I just want it to be over. It feels like we're reading an unrealistic sci-fi book...

My mom and I went grocery shopping yesterday. We stocked up a bit in case there's some kind of chaos and we're forced to shelter in place...that sounds ridiculous...this just all feels unsettling.

I'm a Sales Director for 13 hotels, so it is great that they have new accounts for me to prospect & set up on the dead of winter. I did have to wear two pairs of pants most of the week due to the below freezing temps. Not much physical reading was done, but I'm nearly finished with the tagged on audio. Bookwormjillk Happy #Chatterday Holidays were okay- two weeks of guests made for a lot of work. I wisely took the 2nd and the 3rd off for recovery. A day of errands and prep today and then a mini road trip for my daughter‘s tournament tomorrow. Also my son gets his license so tomorrow so he‘ll be driving us there! 10mo

Sace My holidays were nice and low key. Thanksgiving is the big holiday for us. I‘ve been doing pretty well with the shorter days and my mood has been good. TheBookHippie Finally snow and a bit of sun. I‘ve seen the sun maybe 3 times since December 🤯 not a fan. Hanukkah and New Years collided and the holidays ended so at last it‘s calm. Taking grandson round the corner today to our favorite thrift store, otherwise it‘s reading and warm beverages! The Six Triple Eight on Netflix is amazing. Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Holidays were fine, but i worked more than usual this year so it didn't quite feel like Xmas. Grandma was able to celebrate at home. They short days luckily don't get me down too much, but I am a fan of cozy twinkle lights over harsh overhead lights. We've been revisiting DCs Legends of Tomorrow, which is now complete, if you enjoy unexpected misfit heroes in bonkers situations who are sometimes morally gray. Otherwise, trying to catch up here. 10mo

Sadly, my son-in-law just had knee surgery & he tried to wean off his meds too fast & he‘s been in pain so decided to stay at his mother‘s house a little longer instead of being part of our craziness these last couple days.- which is a good decision, but we miss him. Our big dinner is tomorrow! No reading except in the middle of the night! 😝 Wild but fun 10mo

Soscha Maybe dog adoption. I think I‘d said we lost the last 3 of our very senior puppies the last 4 months. Dogless presently. So maybe we adopt. My partner is very hesitant about this. He only wants ONE. I told him two, need two to keep each other entertained particularly when they‘re younger. So maybe he adopts a 7 mo. old terrier today. On the Eve, maybe the maltie I particularly like—but the shelter has a 12yr old chi. So old man chi has seniority. 10mo

Soscha IF it were my Xmas & birthday choice, we can bring home the Maltese & the little old man together on Xmas Eve. I don‘t believe prayer works but if you do please pray for us. 🙏🏻 10mo

TheBookHippie One holiday party done Thursday night here and it was lovely. Daughter is finally through reaction to anesthesia - took over 72 hours 😝🫣😵‍💫. Tomorrow I have visitation with my parents at my brother‘s Christmas family party.😵‍💫 praying to the gods that they just don‘t speak to me and or I don‘t hear them. But then it‘s a whole other year til I have to do it again. (I see my brother regularly). Today is just coffee, rest, books. 10mo

Cuilin Quiet day, H and I are planning a Yule walk in the woods. Mostly this weekend I will be audiobooking while knitting, baking or wrapping gifts. 10mo

Read4life I hope everyone is doing well. Since we won‘t be able to get home for Christmas with everything going on with my FIL (he‘s now in hospice care), we flew my daughter down for her winter break. I‘m so excited she‘s here. 11mo

This week has been crazy with meetups with friends, sending out my resume to potential clients, vet visits and checkins (Vladimir had his annual checkup, and Zeke seems to be doing better from his illness), and finishing my holiday cards for the year. Cuilin What a week! My daughter R, had a fire in her apartment and had to move out. It was contained quickly and no one was hurt. They‘re hopping between our house and her boyfriend‘s dad house. We've lived here for ten years and completely renovated every aspect of this house, so it kind of feels like we are going up for a final exam to find out how much it's worth 😂 11mo

It was electrical because the landlord plugged the fridge into an extension cord!!! It could have been a worse situation. 11mo

TheBookHippie My Daughter had a hysterectomy on Friday due to severe endometriosis - she‘s 35 and she has horrific reactions to anesthesia and we are still in that phase along with immense pain. She will not take strong pain meds as I‘m allergic to most and they don‘t agree with her either and she already reacts to anesthesia so… 800 mg Motrin it is. 11mo

TheBookHippie @AllDebooks yes. It‘s young, however with the new president coming in and her unmarried status the doctor was afraid so we got it done. Since the birth of my grandson a copper IUD was helpful but not perfect, with it being likely made illegal it was too great a risk. It‘s a miracle she had my grandson, who will be 11 in February. Her case was very severe. I‘m hoping she‘s free of pain now. 11mo

Librarybelle I think this would be a fun weekly checkin! It‘s been very hot in my part of PA, but also sunny. I have a busy week ahead, as I am nearing completion of my coursework in proofreading. I also have a number of library books due that I should read! But, this Sunday is a visit to a winery with a friend for a wine and ice cream pairing. Yum! 1y

IndoorDame I‘m also enjoying our check ins and would be down to continue them. I‘m feeling better than last week. Still nursing the tail end of whatever bug I had, but definitely strong enough to start catching up on the household stuff that fell by the wayside (at least in small bursts) so that‘s probably what my week looks like. But I‘m actually looking forward to it since having my space in balance is one of the things that centers me mentally. 1y

TheSpineView I like the idea of a weekly check-in. Just my usual plans for the weekend, ride and go to lunch with my barn friends, then home to get some housework done. Hot here so the riding will be short today. Next week it will be hellish hot, in the upper 90s with a heat index well over 100. Just as well that I have to work next week. At the AC in the office works well. 1y

wanderinglynn I just worked out & did my stretching, so feeling pretty good. It‘s going to be 99/100F in DC this weekend = staying inside with the blinds closed & the fan running on high. I‘m working on updating a paper I wrote about 10 years ago but didn‘t publish. That & reading are my plans. The heat wave is supposed to continue through next week, although this weekend is the peak temps. 🥵 90 is going to feel cool after this weekend. 😆 1y

IndoorDame @TheSpineView I rode growing up, and I remember at my outdoor stable they used to have us ride bareback when the weather got obscenely hot or obscenely cold (for the horses comfort not ours, though I doubt anyone was actually comfortable 😂) 1y

TheBookHippie Sunday is forecasted the last day of miserable heat here. We shall see. I‘m doing chores in the house today, the heat and my RA are NOT friends. Cuilin This has been one of my best weeks pain and mobility wise. Almost no stiffness. I met up with friends. Went to a game and I‘m off to a Bridal shower today. I need to watch out for fatigue but so far I feel good. Best week of the year. 1y

TEArificbooks We finally have a week with no plans. My hubby travels for work so when he comes home for a week or two between jobs we usually pack it full of family fun activities and appointments. We even go on trips while he is home even though he travels for a living. However, the cosmos aligned this time and we have no plans no appointments no trips. So it is time for a lazy week at home and to hide from the triple digits temps. 1y
