Silence of the Lambs
Silence of the Lambs | Thomas Harris
As part of the search for a serial murderer nicknames "Buffalo Bill," FBI trainee Clarice Starling is given an assignment. She must visit a man confined to a high-security facility for the criminally insane and interview him. That man, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, is a former psychiatrist with unusual tastes and an intense curiosity about the darker corners of the mind. His intimate understanding of the killer and of Clarice herself form the core of Thomas Harris' "The Silence of the Lambs"--an unforgettable classic of suspense fiction.

Happy Halloween! 🎃🧡 I bought those giant bags of Costco candy for my students, but I had to pick out all of the candies with allergens, which ended up being more than I expected. 😂 I don't get trick or treaters, so I'm just going to hole up with a scary book, Chinese food & try to limit my chocolate intake. 😋

What's your favorite Halloween candy? 🍫🍬

Review of the last book of my #Scareathlon #TeamSlaughter playlist and I picked a great book to go out on a bang with. I love the movie & I thought I‘d read this before, but I realised I‘d only read Red Dragon & Hannibal but skipped this for some reason. This is everything a thriller should be, it‘s fast, aggressive, disturbing & very clever. It‘s not perfect at all, but it‘s a great read. Perfect end to the #readathon 11points #PointsTotal-2,128

#ChillingPhotoChallenge #day24 #Thriller This story is a thriller in both print and onscreen. I‘m just about to finish the novel, plus I rewatched the movie last night, and I have to say it‘s a rare movie that almost follows the book word for word. The dialogue in both is fantastic, both Jodi Foster & Anthony Hopkins really did justice to the book characters. #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 1point #PointsTotal-1,910

One more off my #ScaryMovie #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter playlist. One of my favourite Anthony Hopkins & Jodi Foster movies, both individually & together. I‘d say everyone knows about Hannibal the Cannibal by now(I ate liver with some fava beans & a nice Chianti. Fttllfttll.) I‘m now reading the book in print for the 1st time, hoping to finish in time for Halloween. 4points #PointsTotal-1,711

Even though The Silence of the Lambs is well known, reading this psychological thriller today still manages to disturb, distress, and excite. Clarice Starling, FBI agent in training, pursues serial killer Buffalo Bill with the help of infamous cannibal Hannibal Lector. Tense and heart pounding!

It was pretty good. Read fast. But dare I say it...?..... the movie was better. At least for me. Honestly the movie had more depth of character for me. However the book was still a pick. A solid 3.5 stars.

Again I read this in boarding school where there was no net access. I imagined Hannibal as a handsome, tall, dark man with curly locks and the most mesmerising eyes...I fell in love, but when I got home and clicked the movie I was disappointed. We should leave books for imagination. But the book was amazing. Theres always a lot of details in books that's missed out in movies.

🦋A very dark & twisted psychological crime thriller.
🦋Clarice‘s bluntness w/Lecter was refreshing when compared to typical coy women cops.
🦋Lecter‘s brilliant observation & perception made whole book addicting.
🦋Wish there were more scenes w/Lecter.
🦋Buffalo Bill is plain & predictable character.
🦋Not scary at all.
🦋Slow & boring at various points.
🦋Buffalo Bill‘s POV chaps. ruined the suspense/intrigue for me.
🦋Too overhyped.
🦋3/5.

Weaponxgirl I have a theory that is great books don't normally make great movies as so much is left out from the text but that books with good ideas and maybe not the best writing can make great movies as the filmmakers can add more depth. I'm thinking of jaws as the prime example, terrible book but amazing movie 2y
BiblioNyan @Weaponxgirl Never read the book for Jaws, so can‘t really comment on that one. But I did watch the Silence/Lambs film after finishing the book, & it was terrible. The book‘s definitely better. But I agree. Some things are better suited for films. While others don‘t make good films or books. 2y

1) Silence of the Lambs is pretty high up on the list. Actually, any of that series scared the hell out of me.
2) I don‘t watch many horror flicks (because I am a total weenie) but I watched The Ring when it came out and spent a lot of time covering my eyes.
3) I had a stalker in college. For WEEKS. It could have been so much worse, but it got so I was afraid to leave my dorm alone.

PenguinInFlight @JoScho @mabell Luckily, i had many male friends that protected me when this was going on. He targeted about 10 girls (one of them being me), and attempted to kidnap one of them while she walked to class at night. (Before that, there had never been “enough” to press charges. Following me to every single class and work and being outside my room didn‘t count, apparently. Ugh.) Campus police arrested him and he was expelled. I still get chills. 😝 2y
PenguinInFlight @JenlovesJT47 The book is excellent, but it kept me up a few nights, LOL. The movie did, too. I agree that it‘s so scary because it‘s so realistic. 2y
mabell @PenguinInFlight That wasn't enough!?! 2y
PenguinInFlight @mabell Because he hadn‘t actually laid hands on me, and it could have been “coincidental” that he was there ALL THE TIME. (Um, no. He didn‘t live in my form or work with me or have classes with me! WTF.) Older and wiser now, I would have said “screw you” to campus police and went to the state or county police office to press charges, but I was only 18 and didn‘t know any better at the time. 2y
mabell @PenguinInFlight I know what you mean. At 18, I wouldn't have gone further either, but wow that would have been a scary time. 2y
tpixie Oh my!! Hugs. 2y
CouronneDhiver That happened to me in high school - hundreds of phone calls each day, for weeks, from this creepy stranger. The cops eventually figured out who it was and threatened him with arrest. It stopped just as quickly as it began. 2y
PenguinInFlight @CouronneDhiver That is so scary! Being afraid in your own home must have been awful. 😔It actually took me a few days to realize this guy was EVERYWHERE I was, and he hadn‘t been previously...then the campus police acted like I was making a big deal out of nothing. I remember one officer - a woman, even - saying “Well, maybe he‘s shy and wants to ask you out.” WTF. 🙄 2y
