The Forgotten Book | Mechthild Glaser
post image

Decided to extend my stay in Germany 🇩🇪
The Forgotten Book is just what I wanted to read! Emma goes to school in an old castle and wants to start a literature society with her friends. But when she finds an old book in the unused library and Darcy de Winter comes to stay in the room next door, strange things start happening and the school year becomes much more interesting.

Panpan

An elite high school is thrown into a tailspin when 6 cloned students are invited to attend the school. These students‘ “originals” are attending as juniors and seniors at the school. When they turn into each other, it sparks all kinds of mayhem

This was highlighted as a buzz worthy YA book at BEA. Honestly it was all rather silly and way too predictable. The premise is interesting but so predictable as to send me into fits of eye rolling.

JenP I will say that despite the fact that is was painfully lacking in subtlety, I still felt entertained at times. It probably will be a blockbuster 6y
Cinfhen Great review!! Well done 😄you‘re making early progress #booked2018 #impressed ❣️ 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Interesting premise. Too bad it was still a pan! 6y
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I agree, the entertainment value lay in the ridiculousness of it all. 6y

For #SetInASchool I am going back some to showcase the author who gave me and so many people of my generation a love of books and reading, especially with The Secret Seven and The Famous Five, but she also gave us Noddy who has enriched our lives beyond measure. However she also wrote the Malory Towers books set in a school. Yes we are talking Enid Blyton!

EadieB @Andrew65 I‘ll have to listen to the audio that the library has. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB should be a quick listen.Bear in mind they were written in different times - 1940s and 1950s. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 They remind me of the Bobbsey Twins books I used to read. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Don‘t know those. 6y

I *still* have not read this book, even though I‘ve been hearing so much good about it for years... my first Tartt book was The Goldfinch and I was underwhelmed, so that‘s probably part of the reason.

I will read it this year, though, since it‘s one of my challenge books. 😃

saresmoore Great choice! 7y
Weaponxgirl I still need to read this too 7y
JPeterson I plan on trying to get to this as well this year. 🤞 7y

Librarybelle It‘s one of my challenge books too, so will hopefully get to it this fall! 7y
Prairiegirl_reading I have had it on my tbr for a couple years now so this year I challenged myself to finally read it and Never Let Me Go. They are both still on my tbr. 😕 7y
Ashley_Nicoletto I was also underwhelmed by The Goldfinch. I never even finished it. But I lovedddd this one. 7y
batsy @Ashley_Nicoletto I felt exactly the same! 7y
ErikasMindfulShelf I liked The Goldfinch better than The Secret History. 7y
Yeah_I_Read I just finished this and I thought it was good 7y
Mdargusch I read the Goldfinch and finished it even though I didn‘t like it but I loved The Secret History!❤️❤️❤️if that helps? 7y
ravenlee I started this years ago, and was so excited because of all the hype...and about 20-30 pages in I had to put it down for some reason...and never picked it up again. Not sure I will, either. 7y
Reviewsbylola I think it‘s the only Tartt I‘ve read, after hearing @emilyhaldi gush about it. It‘s so good! 7y
emilyhaldi The best!!! 🙌🏻 7y
2BR02B I started this last year for a readalong, fell behind, and finally put it aside (even though I was really enjoying it.) I'm convinced it would be a favorite if I ever got around to finishing it. 7y
sprainedbrain @Weaponxgirl @JPeterson @Librarybelle @Prairiegirl_reading @2BR02B It will probably be fall before I get to it, but this is going to be the year!! 😃 7y
Andrew65 E either and I do need to get to this one! 7y
Prairiegirl_reading @sprainedbrain I was thinking fall would be a good time to start it because it‘s the start of the school year. 6y
TheBookKeepers Goldfinch was so-so for me. Had it all been from Boris‘s perspective I think I would‘ve liked it more. I haven‘t picked up any of her other books either 6y
QuintusMarcus One of my all-time favorite books, and I loved Goldfinch too. Didn't like her second novel, though (title escapes me). 6y

#booktober catch-up 3 for 1! #bookssetinaschool #setinaschool. I was in middle school when this came out and I thought Korman a genius and the book hilarious. Just googled it and found out Prime Minister Justin Trudeau thought so too! It doesn't have a super #longtitle but apparently in 2003 the publisher thought so and shortened it to This Can't Be Happening! And Bruno and Boots were great co- #sidekicks. @RealLifeReading

SuperPunkNinja I've never heard of this book before. Now I must have it! 8y
Tanner I remember that book - I loved Gordon Korman's books as a child, but haven't read any since. 8y
TK-421 I loved Gordon Korman's books when I was growing up! I remember Go Jump in the Pool as one that made me laugh out loud 8y
KVanRead @McShelfington @Tanner @TK-421 I remember laughing out loud like a lunatic to the first three. 8y
Tanner My fav was Who Is Bugs Potter - I lol'd over that one (and I think snorting was involved)! 8y

This is for all the quiet, bookish girls out there who live part of their days in a fantasy world. Sometimes it's good to appreciate the real world around us - and sometimes we need a little help to find the way.
