DoodlesDistractions
Good Omens | Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett
post image

1. Working out, at work, driving in my car.
2. Library! (Libby to be exact) Audiobooks = 💰
3. Original. Too fast a pace and it can sound like chipmunks.
4. Right now I am tracking Nancy Wj she was great in Warcross.
5. Troublemaker by Leah Remini. She‘s reading and it sounds like you are hanging around gossiping with her!
#audiobookinquiry

Jess7 I listen to them while working out too sometimes! I forgot to list that one. I also really enjoyed #Troublemaker on audio. I liked her before, but after listening to her narrate her book, I liked her even more. She is entertaining and I‘m glad she is addressing the issues with Scientology, regardless of the consequences! 7y
Chelleo Thanks to you and @Jess7 I‘m stacking Troublemaker 7y
DoodlesDistractions I listened to it when on a 12 Hour road trip. It was the best! 7y
MidnightBookGirl I love listening to memoirs, and Troublemaker was great! 7y
Jess7 You will love her @Chelleo - she is great. I couldn‘t agree more that it definitely felt like I was listening to a friend talk. You will be tempted to respond bc it feels so natural. Kudos to Leah for doing such a great job with it! 7y

I think this will be the book where she gets more personal than ever before and I am so excited to read it. #ProudFeminist #WomenInPolitics #Liberal #Democrat 💙#ImSTILLwithHer

TLVZ721 I absolutely loved #Troublemaker and #BornACrime! (edited) 7y
Bloomingjen I am still waiting for my copy from B&N also. I can't wait! 7y
PedanticPastorMartha I signed up on waiting list (e-book) at the library but at #83 on 1 copy, I think I might as well head to my local bookstore... One copy, really?! I won't get it til February! 🤣 7y

Pickpick

My picks for the 🔥#SizzlinSummerBooks challenge, day 7: #CelebrityLove are: #TheGirlWiththeLowerBackTattoo 📚#SickInTheHead 📚#TroubleMaker 📚#ThenAgain 📚#TheMagnoliaStory and 📚 #Nevertheless

I highly recommend the books above by Amy Schumer and Leah Remini for my fellow littens that want to laugh and be thoroughly entertained. The rest are on my #TBR list, but I have heard good things about them.

Pruzy I really enjoyed Nevertheless on audio 7y
Cosyreader @Pruzy same! He has the best voice for it 7y
A_Very_Bookish_Girl I really wanna read the Magnolia Story, they are the cutest couple 7y
Jess7 Good to know @Pruzy - I would imagine @Amy-Laura is right about his voice. It would be nice to listen to 7y
Jess7 @A_Very_Bookish_Girl I agree. I love her and I think he is funny 7y

The Perfect Stranger | Megan Miranda

📚May Reading List 📚 - have you read any of these books? Which ones did you like or dislike? Comment below.
#HillbillyElegy ✔️#BadFeminist #NotoriousRBG ✔️ #AManCalledOVE #TheForgettingTime #ThePerfectStranger #2down4togo

L_auren Loved Bad Feminist! 8y
FairyHighRoad I read Bad Feminist, The Perfect Stranger and RBG and really enjoyed them all. 8y
EchoLogical I've read the first two and didn't really enjoy them. I think in both cases they just couldn't live up to my expectations. Hillbilly Elegy was billed as an answer to the "Trump phenomenon" so I was pretty disappointed when I finished with more answers than questions. I just couldn't get into Bad Feminist and gave up. Gonna revisit it at some point, though. 8y

alisiakae I've read Hillbilly Elegy and The Perfect Stranger. I liked Megan Miranda's book, but did not enjoy Hillbilly Elegy. I think there are better books out there on the subject. 8y
britt_brooke I bailed on Hillbilly Elegy (and I almost never bail). I just couldn't deal with his sweeping generalizations. I expected more from someone who is Yale educated. 8y
Jess7 @L_auren - Thanks for the feedback. I like it so far too. If you haven't already read "We Should All Be Feminists" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie I would highly recommend it. It's short and an excellent read! 8y
Jess7 @LagerthaShieldMaiden thanks for the feedback. I like your taste! I finished #NotoriousRBG yesterday. Loved it too. So far I really like #BadFeminist and #ThePerfectStranger so far. Any other non-fiction or thriller type books you would recommend? 8y
Jess7 @EchoLogical I'm sorry you didn't like #HillbillyElegy (HE) or #BadFeminist (BF). Sometimes the hype surrounding popular novels puts them at a disadvantage from the outset. I know there are plenty of books that have let me down based on my expectations. I read HE bc it was a book club pick. I liked it, but it was slow at times and it didn't answer all of my ?s. I'm not far enough into BF to judge it yet, but I like it so far. 🤞🏼thanks! (edited) 8y
Jess7 @4thhouseontheleft have you read other novels by Megan Miranda? If so, which ones, and did you like them? As far as Hillbilly Elegy, I found the issues he attempted to address to be worthy of discussion and interesting. You mentioned you think there are other books addressing these issues that you preferred. I would like to read more on the topic. What would you suggest? Thanks for the feedback! 8y
Jess7 @britt_brooke that makes sense. This was on by "to read" list, but I'm not sure I would of read it over other books on my list if it had not been my book club's May pick. I thought it was hard to get through at the beginning. I was a little bored by it, but as it went on, I found the memoir part of it to be entertaining at least, and the statistics interesting. Although I will say I didn't agree with some of his "moderately conservative" ?views 8y
britt_brooke @Jess7 Haha, yeah, I'm sure I wouldn't have agreed with his views either. 8y
FairyHighRoad @Jess7 I really like Lisa Jewell, especially I Found You, One Hit Wonder and The Girls in the Garden. I just finished Those Girls by Chevy Stevens. It was really good but the girls go through some tough stuff. For nonfiction, I loved Trevor Noah's memoir Born a Crime and Leah Remini's Troublemaker! 8y
Jess7 @LagerthaShieldMaiden I loved both of your non-fiction picks. #BornACrime was awesome and entertaining! #Troublemaker was both funny and informative! 8y
Lmstraubie I listened to this one on audio. I liked it, but think it might be better in book form since it is a collection of essays. Then it would be easier to pick & choose what you feel like reading in little bits. 8y
kspenmoll Absolutely adored the only book from your group I have read 8y
britt_brooke Ooh, I forgot to comment on Ove. I absolutely loved that book! Backman is pretty amazing. I've read all of his books except his new one Beartown. 8y
alisiakae @Jess7 I have actually read almost all of Megan Miranda's books! But in full disclosure, she is a neighbor and friend, so I may be a little biased. ?I keep hearing that book "White Trash: The 400-year untold history of class in America" by Nancy Isenberg is a good one, more detailed and research-driven. I reviewed Elegy on my blog, and went into more depth there about why I didn't like it. 8y
