AllDebooks I'm so behind. 😅 1mo
Bookwormjillk What a surprise. 1mo

ElizaMarie Ooo -- things are happening ---- #FingersCrossed it continues! Also, I hope Maggie annoys Tom with praise of Phil. 1mo
TheAromaofBooks At least it feels like they are acting like regular children instead of psychopaths now 😂 1mo
mcctrish Thank god he stabbed himself @AllDebooks I am struggling 1mo
dabbe @TheAromaofBooks 🤣🤣🤣 1mo
mcctrish @dabbe is it the time period? I did care but it‘s getting harder 1mo
dabbe @mcctrish Maybe. It's also the absence again of a plot. I mean, it's a bildungsroman about Maggie and Tom growing up, but have a driving plot line, please! 🤣 1mo
julieclair @ElizaMarie You called it! Flesh wound! 🎯 1mo
julieclair @dabbe @mcctrish @ElizaMarie At least the lack of a plot is preventing me being tempted to read ahead. 🤣🤣😂 1mo
dabbe @julieclair And if you're like me, I count the pages before I read, and I happily rejoice if it's less than 10 pages! 🤣😍🤣 1mo
eeclayton @dabbe same 😂 1mo
Leftcoastzen @julieclair 😂no temptation to read ahead #gotplot 1mo
Clare-Dragonfly @julieclair Oh yeah, this isn‘t like The Woman in White where it was so hard to stop at the end of each section! 1mo
julieclair @Clare-Dragonfly Full confession: I often didn‘t stop at the end of each section with Woman in White. Totally impossible. 1mo
BarkingMadRead @julieclair @Clare-Dragonfly I 💯 read ahead for Woman in White 1mo

Bookwormjillk I kept waiting for something shocking to happen but I guess they‘re all just happy and all the evil people are dead. Oh well 🤣 2mo

Bklover I feel bad for Marian. Forever the aunty. 2mo
BarbaraJean It was a bit anticlimactic! More dramatic vindication would have been nice. Or at least a hilarious dramatic deathbed scene with dear Uncle. I‘m just glad Pesca didn‘t have to kill Porkchop. 2mo
BarkingMadRead @BarbaraJean I definitely hoped for better deaths 🤣 2mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk #atleastthebadpeopledied small mercies and @BarbaraJean silver lining for Pesca 👏🏻👏🏻 2mo
Bookwormjillk @BarbaraJean good point- happy for Pesca 2mo
ElizaMarie @Bklover YES! I feel so badly for Marian. Like she was a super amazing woman, and if only she wasn't so ugly - ha! I mean, she kinda gets a happily ever after, but... only kinda? 2mo
dabbe It creeped me out how #countporkchop lusted/loved Marian. There has to be someone out there for her! But you know what? She's Wilkie's independent woman, so maybe it's fitting that she ends up happily on her own. She, Walt, and Anne were my favorites. Oh, and Pesca, too!

Thanks for another fabulous read, #hashtagbrigade and our wittiest leader, @BarkingMadRead! 🤩🙌🏻🤩
2mo
Clare-Dragonfly Heck yeah they did! I suspected that foreigner with a scar on his face might be the Brotherhood‘s vengeance but when he left the Count alone when Walt arrived at his house, I wasn‘t sure. He got the ending he deserved! 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly Does anyone remember, if Laura hadn‘t managed to produce a son, would someone else have inherited Limmeridge? Or would a daughter have done the trick? Or could she have inherited in her own right? 2mo
Ruthiella @Bklover @ElizaMarie @dabbe We can all write our own ending for Marian. I see her meeting Mr. Gilmore‘ son (or nephew or daughter or niece, whatever your flavor) and starting a beautiful partnership both personally and professionally as private detectives. 2mo
Ruthiella @Clare-Dragonfly I think she would have inherited in her own right. 2mo
TheAromaofBooks I ended up loving this one!! Thanks so much for hosting @BarkingMadRead - this one was an unexpected win for me 😂 2mo
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella I love that ending!! @TheAromaofBooks I was pleasantly surprised as well! I really loved this one! 2mo
dabbe @Ruthiella Love this! 🤩🤩🤩 2mo
KAO I enjoyed this a lot! Thanks so much! 2mo
Leftcoastzen What a wonderful book ! Glad for the happy ending (it‘s about time) so many of the characters are so well crafted, they could have a book of their own ! Yay,Marian! Thanks @BarkingMadRead 2mo
Bklover @Ruthiella That‘s a perfect ending!! I love it! 2mo

Clare-Dragonfly No surprise on Anne‘s parentage. Poor girl. I want to know how Walt and Laura can get married when she‘s legally dead?! 2mo
BarkingMadRead @Clare-Dragonfly i thought the same thing! How legal is this marriage, sir?!? 2mo
ElizaMarie Maybe she‘s getting married as Anne? Or could they flee the country? (edited) 2mo
Leftcoastzen @BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk 👏😂😂😂😂😂 2mo
mcctrish Dead ladies can‘t do crimes but they can get married ✊🏻 @Bookwormjillk I just can‘t help think some other poor chap got thrown in the burning vestry 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I hope they‘re not pulling a #percypig and sneaking their names onto some church‘s registry 😂 2mo
dabbe Sounds like the Fairlie bros were both quite a piece of work. #thebros #thankfullynottherussianbros 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly @dabbe And #countessdeadeyes is their sister! What a childhood they must have had. 2mo

Clare-Dragonfly Kind of unsatisfying that Emily doesn‘t have to do anything to get her inheritance… 5mo
Bookwormjillk @Clare-Dragonfly right? All that paperwork with Macaroni for nothing. 5mo
peanutnine I feel like most everything in this book has been a ton of anticipation and buildup with no satisfying pay out @Clare-Dragonfly @Bookwormjillk 5mo
mcctrish @peanutnine absolutely so many words and nothing happens besides crying, fainting and things that can‘t be talked about 5mo
Clare-Dragonfly @peanutnine Yup. That‘s why I‘m not expecting any exciting ghost reveal with Ludo. 5mo

peanutnine Oh lord Emily is so naive 🙄🙄 and Annette really needs to learn how to shut up when necessary! 🙊 6mo
See All 11 Comments
mcctrish @peanutnine like Emily knew he was a cheat and a liar and she stilled signed 🤦🏻‍♀️ why couldn‘t she give Ludacris at least 24 hrs AND Annette is going to get them killed 6mo
eeclayton Seriously, Emily 🤦🤦🤦 6mo
TheAromaofBooks I'm soooo confused about why she got sent away and then brought back when it's obvious Macaroni doesn't care about her safety at all?? Did he just think she might get killed before he got the paper signed?! 6mo
AllDebooks I thought we were done with Annette 🫣😅 6mo
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks I think it said at one point that if she died, he wouldn‘t get the property, it had to be signed over? 6mo
Bookwormjillk If I was being held captive in a creepy castle I would hope my true love would do more than play music at night. 6mo
julieclair I couldn‘t believe Emily signed the papers. Soooo disappointing and frustrating. 6mo

AllDebooks This was very frustrating. Spill the T Radclyffe 😕 6mo
mcctrish At present I‘d say the mystery is how anyone reads this 6mo
AllDebooks @mcctrish so much repetition!! 6mo
mcctrish @AllDebooks every time there is a chance of something happening - nope! We see gypsies, ooo what‘s going to happen? Nothing. Dad holding miniature portrait - nothing, papers to read, burn em and nothing 6mo
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish 😂😂😂 6mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk it‘s a lot of words and a lot of crying for nothing 6mo
Bookwormjillk @mcctrish I don‘t mind it when the chapters are short, but sometimes I see 23 minutes in the chapter on my kindle and I want to cry right along with her. A lot of people love this book so hopefully something other than dying parents and crying happens soon. 6mo
mcctrish @Bookwormjillk I‘m reading on serial and when it says the chapter continues to more than one section I too want to cry 6mo
Clare-Dragonfly I can‘t believe it said she read a bit but won‘t tell us what that bit is!!! So unfair. And auntie… she‘s obnoxious but she‘s not wrong about people who look good not necessarily being good. 6mo
Bklover I‘m hoping Auntie spices things up a bit! I do think, though, that Auntie is going to cause more crying and fainting. There has to be some excitement coming soon! 6mo
eeclayton @mcctrish same! I would never get through this if it wasn't for the #hashtagbrigade ! 6mo
eeclayton I was actually proud of Emily for not saying yes to V right away. But this is about the only positive thing I can say about the story so far. 6mo
julieclair So. Much. Crying. I switched to audio and it has helped me to enjoy the story more. (Not sure why…) 6mo

mcctrish @Bookwormjillk it does sound pretty but so far they suck as travellers #itistheirfirstrodeo 7mo
peanutnine I always find it odd that the prescription for illness in this time period is so often travel, like travel is the most exhausting thing I don't get it 7mo
Clare-Dragonfly I‘m surprised to see both monks and nuns in a convent. I thought they were always sex-segregated. 7mo
ElizaMarie @peanutnine yes!!!! I always have to take an extra day off after taking days off from vacation! 7mo
Bklover @peanutnine I agree! Not to mention wandering all over the place picking up germs! 7mo
Ruthiella @Clare-Dragonfly I think Radcliffe might have just made that up. 6mo
AnishaInkspill @BarkingMadRead thanks for the add 😍 these 6mo
AnishaInkspill @Clare-Dragonfly me too, I looked this up and found this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_monastery , maybe Radcliffe means one of these double monastry ? 6mo

BarkingMadRead @Cuilin yes! @mcctrish ohhhh maybe? My cynical soul didn‘t even think of that! 7mo
ElizaMarie @mcctrish Yeah, instantly thought it was his momma. Maybe I am too nieve and trusting :) 7mo
Clare-Dragonfly “Oh, brother, you look sick, you should go to the doctor.” Lady, his wife just died and you‘re making him go to a party! 7mo
Bklover Can you add me back? Finally finished Dracula and starting this tonight. Will try to keep up better! (I posted this comment already but I can‘t find it so who knows where I posted it 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7mo

Cuilin @mcctrish on a daily basis due to brain fog I say “is this Covid, ADHD, or menopause?” I‘m now going to add in “or was I bitten by a vampire?” 🧛‍♂️😝 7mo

Cuilin It‘s vignette after vignette with this novel. I still demand a movie. (edited) 8mo
Ruthiella Oh, I rather like Colonel Duperrier. He strikes me as a sad, wistful figure. I think he see the Lawrence girls as the daughters he never had, nothing more sinister than that…🤔 (edited) 8mo
See All 12 Comments
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella that‘s definitely possible, I‘m pretty cynical 🤣 8mo
Bookwormjillk @Cuilin agree. Dare I say it- might be better than the book. 8mo
Bookwormjillk I love the random judgemental quotes though. Two days ago it was middle class words, yesterday it was mustaches, and today it was the sinister yellow glasses. I don\'t always remember all the characters or understand what is going on, but there\'s usually something that makes me laugh. 8mo
IndoorDame @Cuilin YES! Where is our movie 🎥 🍿???? This would make the best movie night ever! 🤣🤣🤣 8mo
willaful Ronald seems to want to be Oscar Wilde. 8mo
mcctrish @Ruthiella I think that‘s what it is, initially it came across as much more sinister probably because of his wife‘s hysterics stomping out of the room 8mo
rubyslippersreads @mcctrish @Ruthiella I don‘t know; he seems a little more fond of Joan than a father would be. 😏 8mo
