I understand the hype around this one, definitely worth it. Sheridan is a great writer, this is well paced and the back and forth between the characters and their timelines is effective and keeps the often heavy content from getting too heavy. The love story is sweet and they support each as they work though their difficult pasts. This wasn‘t on my plan for #MagnificentMay but the libby waitlist was long. #payitforward @Andrew65

#Midwintersolace #Payitforward

It's my challenge to myself to connect with others, to be kind & supportive. It's the main reason I wanted to start this event.

How has your week been? Any plans for random acts of kindness, both for yourself and others?

bnp I'm not planning any, but sometimes they happen. Hadn't thought of random acts of kindness towards myself. Hmmm . . . 1y
bnp Week has been soso. A friend invited me to a Christmas Eve dinner, so I'm looking forward to that, and to the BBC broadcast of The dark is rising, which starts this week. 1y

IndoorDame Not the typical random act of kindness, but I‘m not great at asking for help and things have really been piling up as I‘ve been recovering from Covid the past few months, so I finally got super overwhelmed and reached out, and a friend spent yesterday cleaning my kitchen and doing some of my laundry. It was nice to see him, and it feels great to have a headstart on the chores! Hopefully now I can actually get caught up over the holiday break. 1y
BarkingMadRead I try and do this on the regular. Paying for someone behind me at Starbucks, letting a couple cars out at intersections, and between thanksgiving and new year‘s I leave snacks and water out for our delivery men 1y
TheBookHippie We thrift Christmas holiday winter Hanukkah new years solstice books make a stack 1-31 wrap them up and find a young mom or very in need family to give them too . Then we give a bag of 4 to each of my readers this year it‘s 60 readers . I leave jam & bread wrapped in a fresh flour sack towel on doorstep in my neighborhood with a card saying happy holiday. 1y
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame yay!!!! I‘m so glad!!!! 1y
IndoorDame @BarkingMadRead @TheBookHippie it makes me so happy that people still leave food. 🙏❤️ 1y
IndoorDame @TheBookHippie I know giving books to your readers each year has to add up, so I sent along a couple last week. It won‘t make a dent towards 60 kids, but hopefully lots of people are helping out 1y
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame Awe thank you so much!!! 1y
TheBookHippie @IndoorDame I still believe in jam and bread ♥️ it‘s a hug. 1y
ElizaMarie Oooo So, all year really, I normally pay for the person behind me in a fast-food/coffee line. I don't do fast food often (I just do not really have much access to it). But I try to make it a point to do this at least 2x a month. 1y
AllDebooks @bnp Always include yourself! Sounds like a lovely Christmas eve. I've bookmarked The dark is rising. Thanks for tagging me x 1y
AllDebooks @IndoorDame sorry to hear you're struggling post-covid. I think most folks struggle to ask for help, me included 🤔 So glad you have a lovely friend that came to help x 1y
AllDebooks @BarkingMadRead I make it a whole year round thing, paying for groceries if someone's groceries, etc. I always offer drinks/snacks as well to delivery drivers. Hellish time if year for them. Just stocked up on bird food to help all my little feathered friends out. 1y
AllDebooks @TheBookHippie I love this, so sweet x 1y
BarkingMadRead @AllDebooks I love that. I‘m an all year round kinda girl as well. I volunteer a lot as well, it‘s good karma 1y
AllDebooks @ElizaMarie that's a lovely thing to do x 1y
TheBookHippie @BarkingMadRead @AllDebooks I too all year volunteer it‘s just how I live. 1y
AllDebooks Talking about random acts of kindness, check out @TheBookHippie original post for connecting over holidays. https://litsy.com/p/eWF6TDBCZnI5 I will also be adding a post at the end of #Midwintersolace about staying connected x 1y
Catsandbooks I leave out drinks and snacks for the delivery people around the holidays and in the summer when it's really hot. I also bake goodies for my elderly neighbor each year. 1y
BookmarkTavern I haven‘t, but I want to be more mindful about acts of kindness. I‘ve been trying to tip more, especially for delivery drivers when the weather is inclement. 1y
AnnR @IndoorDame - I do hope you'll be feeling much better in the weeks to come. 1y
IndoorDame @Ann_Reads thank you 🙏 1y
AnnR My random acts of kindness usually are just that... random. I sometimes let people go ahead of me in the grocery line, etc. During the holidays, I often bake cookies for and visit with some elderly folks who don't like to cook anymore. My routine is not 'back to normal' though especially during the winter months with another increase in flu bugs and Covid infections happening in the U.S. It is wearisome and worrisome. 1y
AllDebooks @Ann_Reads I have a similar routine. I have tended to 'hibernate' since autumn 2019. 1y
AllDebooks @Catsandbooks I really do feel for our delivery drivers. I can't imagine how stressful their job is. It is a lovely thing to do, leaving a box of drinks and snacks to help fuel them thru the day 1y
AllDebooks @ozma.of.oz tbh if you think about it, you probably do more than you realise. Courtesy and politeness are not hard to do and cost nothing. Don't forget to be kind to yourself too x 1y

Question: what does everyone do with books they want to unhaul?? These are all duplicates that I don‘t need 😬

Part 2/2 book unhaul

#BookNerd 🤓📚💙

P.S. If you live in the Frederick, MD area and want any of these let me know 😊 Free to a good home 📚

CoverToCoverGirl I always donate my extras to goodwill. 2y
Kimzey I share them with friends, slip them into little free libraries, donate to Goodwill, donate to a halfway house and donate to a charity that provides books to prison libraries. The director of the prison project said the books (softcover only) literally get read to pieces. 2y
Addison_Reads I offer them up here on Litsy as a #PayItForward first and then I ask my local library book club. If no one claims them I divide it up and donate to my local library or the one little free library we have in town. 2y
See All 8 Comments
xicanti I give them to friends or stick them in Little Free Libraries. It could be worth seeing if there are any used bookstores in your area that‘d give you cash or store credit for them, too. 2y
Kitta I donate mine to a local used bookstore or I give them to a little free library! 2y
alisiakae I usually drop them off in a free little library. 2y
Simona First I ask my friends and coworkers if they want them, the rest I donate to library or used bookstore. 2y
Laughterhp I ask friends, then give them to my library or a little free library! 2y

#AuthorAMonth2021 @Soubhiville

I finished this last month. This is my first read by Amy Tan, and although I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped, I will definitely try another by her.

The writing was beautiful, but the story was slow and confusing in parts.

If anyone is interested in this book I'm happy to pass on my used paperback copy to you. #PayItForward

Riveted_Reader_Melissa This is one of hers I need to try to read. I decided to re-read The Joy Luck Club last month, and maybe because it was a re-read…I still haven‘t finished it. Last month was a slow reading month for me. 3y
Addison_Reads @Riveted_Reader_Melissa would you like me to send this one to you? Last month was a slow reading month for me too. I kept starting books I just couldn't really get into. Hopefully September will be better for both of us. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Addison_Reads Yes, and thank you. I think for me it was a combination of watching too much news (lots going on in the world) and my doctor put me on prednisone in the middle of the month for any allergic “to something” rash which basically just made me fall asleep anytime I sat down to read. So here‘s to better reading for both of us in Sept.! 3y

Addison_Reads @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I still have your address so I will get this sent out this week for you. And I understand about the news, I'm in the new scary wild west world of Texas and its ridiculous new laws. 😕 but Yay! for September and good reads ahead. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Addison_Reads Ugh! Texas! Just when I thought the month was quieting down after evacuations from Afghanistan and from a hurricane path/wild fires …The Supreme Court just made the whole month so much worse. And sadly I can guarantee you won‘t be alone, many other state will see this as permission to pass similar laws ASAP to get around the law. And deputizing everyday citizens to not only harass, but now sue…is going to get ugly fast. ⤵️ 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ all those nuts that protest outside of Planned Parenthood, etc are going to see it as a license to escalate, putting women in more danger than just the law itself. It‘s all just depressing and completely disgusting. 3y
vlwelser This is my least favorite of her books. You should try The Kitchen God's Wife. Or basically anything else. 3y
Addison_Reads @vlwelser My local library has that one so I will definitely try it. 3y

Mehso-so

What seemed to be a cheesy story about motherhood in suburbia turned into something completely different. However, a lack of sympathy for the main characters (except Carli) and the a bit too simple storyline make this a so-so for me. Thanks for sharing this one with me Meg, it was totally suitable for a lazy vacation day 🤍😘

(Pic: Ios, Greece)

Megabooks Yes, I thought it was interesting with the turn it took. Pretty unexpected. Very much a beach read, so I‘m glad you read it on your trip. 👍🏻 3y
Addison_Reads I love seeing this book made it all the way to Greece. Thank you @Megabooks for passing it on again. #PayItForward @BarbaraBB great review for this book. 3y

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #NonFiction2021 @Riveted_Reader_Melissa

Beautifully written memoir infused with love, heartache, and culture. Quiara, called Qui Qui by her family, opens up about her life as a part Native, part Puerto Rican, part Jewish girl growing up in Brooklyn. Her choice of words and the way she writes took my breath away at times. Great memoir. 💚

If anyone would like this book I'm happy to send it to you. #PayItForward

Did I just cross out April and write in May with the exact same list because I didn't manage to finish a single book? Why yes... 😑 🤦

If you go into this expecting it to be simply true crime, you'll be disappointed. While there is a crime that takes place, this book is also about sociology, addiction, obsession, and forgiveness. Lissa Yellow Bird gives a candid look at a woman fighting to find purpose in her life, while unraveling a mystery, and reconnecting with her culture.

Great read! 💚

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds more interesting because of all of that! Stacked! 3y
Addison_Reads @Riveted_Reader_Melissa If you're interested I'd be happy to send you my copy. 😁 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Addison_Reads if you are serious and you don‘t mind, that would be great. I‘m in the US, so that might make it easier or harder depending on where you are. If it‘s too much hassle, just let me know and I‘ll request it from the library. 3y
Addison_Reads @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I was going to offer it up later as a #PayItForward, so I don't mind at all. Just send your address to caddison97@gmail.com and I'll be happy to send it on. 😁 3y
