You know when you're sick and nothing feels like a good read. I have started and stopped 3 books the last few days. 13 books loaded on my Litsy right now. I wanted a cozy read but now I'm not sure.

Suet624 I‘m sorry. It‘s tough when that happens. 1mo
Aimeesue Hope you‘re feeling better soon 1mo
AnnCrystal 💕Rest. May you feel better soon 🙏. Do you have any graphic novels? When I'm under the weather, they're really the only type of story I can focus on. Not sure if it will work for you, just wanted to share. 1mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Avid readers probably won‘t be surprised by anything in this book, but it was still interesting to learn about some research and anecdotes behind the transcendental magic of reading aloud and to reinforce its importance for all ages (particularly children). I appreciated the accompanying PDF with book suggestions. I did pick up on some subtle parent shaming, especially towards mothers, that kind of rubbed me the wrong way. 🎧

kaykay521 I read this book right when it came out and really enjoyed it. I don‘t yet have any children so I didn‘t pick up on the parental shaming, interesting…..this is one I‘d actually like to own 7mo
ICantImReading @kaykay521 this would be a nice book to have on hand to reference! It‘s nothing overt by any means, but I could see how at times it could make a parent feel they weren‘t doing enough, particularly one who is already strapped for time and resources. But it‘s certainly worth a read! 🙂 7mo

LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS. It‘s literally been years since I‘ve posted anything, but I‘m home sick and looking for something to binge read. Here are some in my TBR, but I also have a kindle and an Overdrive account so open to any and all suggestions.

LiteraryinLawrence Hi again! Of the ones pictured I‘m a big fan of The Little Prince. But overall one of my favorite books of the last couple years was The House in the Cerulean Sea! 2y
Amiable That Wally Lamb book is one of my all-time favorites! I‘ve read it multiple times. It‘s so good. And the Henrietta Lacks book is phenomenal if you are in the mood for NF. 2y
DivineDiana I recommend Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows. Much better than that title! #strongwomen Feel better! (edited) 2y

Alfoster @Amiable I agree with you;love Wally Lamb books and this one was awesome!❤️👊 2y
BookNerd9906 @LiteraryinLawrence @Amiable @Alfoster thank you so much for your input. The Little Prince is short so I powered through that, and now I‘m tackling the Wally Lamb chunkster. I‘ll have no shortage of binge reading while home sick. 2y
BookNerd9906 @DivineDiana thanks for the recommendation it‘s next on my TBR 2y

So I‘m trying a new kind of #TBR for my #MarchTBR

I‘m letting myself mood read, while trying to make a good dent into my physical unread bookshelves. Yes all of those books are unread…
If a book is over 500 pages I can count it as two books. 😁
I am once again going to participate in #bookspin #doublespin and #bookspinbingo

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! 2y
peanutnine I love this idea 2y

Here, on Litsy, we all know and appreciate the power of reading. It‘s food for the mind and soul. This book backs all that up with science and studies galore. I highly recommend this to anyone pregnant or with young children. Thank you so much for gifting this to me @squirrelbrain 😘

squirrelbrain Glad you enjoyed it! 😘 2y

Dillon and I just completed reading my favorite HP book aloud. Reading Harry Potter together has been my favorite date night activity through COVID. This handsome fella is Lupin. I love how Kay captures Lupin and Snape and everyone so well. Dillon and I will start Goblet of Fire soon. Sadly we‘ll be all caught up on the illustrated editions after that. #hp #readingaloud #datenight

Kimberlone Love these illustrations!!! I need to borrow from you at some point. 3y
Saknicole You can borrow them anytime! 3y

A lot of this may have been said before (Jim Trelease has said it, among others), but this is a nice balance of research and anecdotes in support of reading aloud - to children (regardless of age), to other adults, just for the pleasure of it. There‘s less of the how-to and much more of the why-to. There are also great book lists at the back (who else is a sucker for a good list?). Recommend, especially for parents of littles.

Today‘s library #bookhaul (at least the ones for me; there are 28 more for the voracious book-devouring kiddo elsewhere) - can you tell I‘m on my annual education kick? Plus the #MGBuddyRead and #YABuddyRead picks, which I may or may not actually get to in time for discussions.
