Made my goal this year! Sometimes hard as an English teacher. The guilt of reading for pleasure with a pile of essays to grade is real.

It was ok, kind of dragged for me. So much about the characters I didn‘t feel necessary, but I think her writing is just not my style.

Absolutely wonderful and heartfelt. Three young men so misunderstood and down the wrong paths, but they each find their way, but not all end happily. Very moving characters.

Loved Reminders of Him, couldn‘t put it down. It Ends With Us I didn‘t like so much. She did not develop a male character that I cheered for when I should have.

Good story, but hard to get into the setting of early 1900s Shanghai when all names are Western.

Honestly not sure what to say about the ending. Who else has read it and what did you think? I was all in until the end.

Saknicole I loved it! It was my favorite book of 2021. Did you dislike the whole mushroom organism thing or just the specific ending ending? 3y
APLitlife @Saknicole I think the mushroom organism was a bit much. The actual ending was satisfying. 3y

I really liked it, but do not feel it lives up to the hype. Nice twist, but I have read several others recently that actually made me drop my jaw. This wasn‘t one of them.

TheLudicReader Love to hear about some of those “jaw dropping” titles. 3y
APLitlife @TheLudicReader The biggest one right now is Verity by Colleen Hoover. The ending literally had my jaw on the floor. It is a little explicit sexually, but the plot of the story is amazing. Another one is Push by Ashley Audrain. It is a little slow, but it builds well and then the ending!! Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris is another. Hope you enjoy them! 3y
TheLudicReader Thanks for the suggestions, @APLitlife I read Verity: hated it. Push is on my TBR and I have heard of the third, but not read it. I will definitely check it out. 3y

Amazing but tragic story.

Lauram I just read this last week for book club. We all really liked this sad story and look forward to the Netflix series. 3y
APLitlife I didn‘t know it was going to be a Netflix series. I hope they don‘t ruin it. Every “series” I have seen of a favorite book has been awful. 3y

The Lake House | Kate Morton

I am really struggling through this one. I read the back of the book and thought it would be so good, but the “disappearance of the little boy” is very little of the book. Didn‘t even barely mention it until the 15th chapter. It is more about the backstory of the women in the family. Pushing through because I am stubborn 😁.

GondorGirl I am a HUGE Kate Morton fan, but this wasn't my favorite of hers. 3y
APLitlife @GondorGirl I have another one of her books. Definitely will give her another try. 3y
Lauram I struggled to get through this one. It‘s going to be a long time before I attempt another one by Morton. 3y

Very hard to like the main character. Or any of the characters at that. A little girl that they had taken to as a child, come back into their lives years later as a beautiful young woman, with revenge on her mind.

AlisBookNookCorner This is on my TBR 😬 I keep hearing it isn't that good. 3y

It is fiction, but based on a true event. Between 1925-1950 children were basically stolen from poor families and sold to wealthy families. This story follows one such family of children. I listen to the audiobook and absolutely loved it!

CathyJ What did you think of Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter? I got it on sale last year but keep put off reading it. 6y
ashley_gilman @CathyJ I LOVED Pretty Girls. Although it was very, very dark at parts, it was addicting. You should definitely read it - I‘d love to know what you think 😊 (edited) 6y
APLitlife Pretty Girls was pretty dark and shocking, but I really enjoyed it. I “read” it by audiobook and had a hard time having to stop it. I sat in my driveway many a night after getting home to finish a chapter.😁 @CathyJ 6y

Following the lead of others. I love to see and learn about the readers I am following. I have always been a huge reader and it just seemed fitting to become an English teacher. I teach sophomores and AP Literature and am known for making quite a few readers of my students. Their favorite part of class is SSR, they love to relax and read. I have two teens and am also a basketball coach.
