Playing catch-up on November‘s #ARichLife! The October #Harvest moon was a supermoon last month and looked similar to the Beaver supermoon of this week (pictured here over Texas skies). They were both so big and golden! 🌕🤩

The gold matches part of the cover of my current audiobook. This is different but fun so far! Set in the Galveston area during a severe storm, on a sunken ship with a mangrove forest, an infant being hidden and witches!

Anyone watched The Red King? It‘s rare that I get to watch a show, and even when I have the chance I normally opt for a book. But this intrigued me and I added AMC onto Prime Video to watch it (smh streaming woes🙄). Anywho, I binged it! Haven‘t binged a show since You. I wish it was a book! Themes of occult tradition, folklore, the human psyche, and what justice looks like. Book and watchlist recs similar to this are welcomed!!

Thanks for the tag Sherri! I think my future self will be proud I took the job I did after being affected by a very unexpected and distressing mass layoff from my previous company. My current role is challenging, in a completely different industry, and has a demanding learning curve, but I‘m making great progress and honestly it‘s a fantastic opportunity! Enjoyed this overall. I love how SMG weaves in Aztec history from pre-colonial Mexico City. It took me down many rabbit holes. This neon noir has vampire gang wars, human narco wars, a whole lot of bloodshed, plus a dash of romance. I get why Atl was how she was, but Domingo was a sweetheart and deserved better lol. Happy Indigenous Peoples‘ Day! Perfect timing that I‘m reading this book today as I finish the #JustOneMoreChapter #readathon. SMG includes a lot of #indigenous history in her stories based in Mexico, in this story the history of the great Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan prior to being colonized and Mexico City built on top of its ruins. Not for everyone, but it was certainly for ME!! Wtf did I even read lol? A haunted house story of sorts…(or haunted marriage?), inexplainable events keep recurring, madness ensues, and a couple simply looking for a fresh start collectively loses their minds. Could be a so-so if I could look past lines like, “My cheeks burned and so did my nipples. They could have been unlit candle wicks…” Alas, I can‘t. This felt more like a rough draft than a fully fleshed out short story. I liked the horror depictions of the Perchta witch, so it‘s a #HauntedShelf rec for Monstrous, but there‘s no explanation of how she and the vampires showed up and the fight scenes were B list horror film cliches.⭐️⭐️ #BlackCatCrew

Well, I didn‘t hate this, but I did find it lacking. I‘m still unsure what the point was. It felt self-indulgent. The POV switching was confusing and unnecessarily repetitive when scenes were retold after the narrator “tricks” us. All emotions were told to us in an almost clinical tone, never shown. The idea of a thinly veiled fictionalized revenge MFA thesis is good in theory, but this wasn‘t nearly as compelling as expected. Maybe 2⭐️s. #BOTM

Feeling a bit iffy about this one already lol. There‘s definitely Vladimir vibes, which I enjoyed for the English academia until it went completely off the rails at the end, but this doesn‘t have that same interesting concept yet. There‘s nothing pulling me into the academia, and the characters talk, think, and act in ways that feel so unrealistic. Maybe I‘m just struggling with the narrative POV switching of the student to the professors. #BOTM

Finished this on the first day of Fall and it‘s a fitting transitional read. Set in the Texas hill country, a tragedy at a lavish sweet 16 birthday party in a literal glass mansion reveals way more than just the mystery of who fell and how. The party is full of liars, secrets, possible foul play suspects, and maybe a ghost.👻 I was pleasantly surprised that I was questioning what the truth was until the end. 4⭐️s!

This was fairly entertaining and I was interested in understanding who was who, whether the Olivia who returned was really the kidnapped Olivia, and how the two storylines connected. The writing felt repetitive, with a weird, unnecessary plot device that I didn‘t care for and found extremely cringy. I didn‘t find the characters believable; they were almost cartoonishly ridiculous in both their cruelty and delusion. Be ready to suspend disbelief!
