I really enjoyed the tagged book this week. I listened to a radio drama version of the story done by the Colonial Radio Players. I really liked it. This book is perfect for Halloween.

Can't think of a better one. It's not a book, but since stories count ...
Another day, another book with fantastic illustrations by Gris Grimly. I really enjoyed this picture book which condenses the story to its essence (the most spooky/scary parts the dust jacket explains) while very much keeping the feeling, & some of the vocabulary, of the original. I think this probably works best as a read aloud with young readers and if done right, it could be a lot of fun. Also a nice way for adults to reread Irving‘s classic.
If you‘re ever in the area of Irvington and Tarrytown in Westchester County, NY, visit Irving‘s “castle,” where he lived. It sets the scene so well for Sleepy Hollow in 1820. And the Tappan Zee Bridge (or at least when I lived there) is nearby. I worked in Irvington, and when I read this book, it brings back so many memories. The best part of this book is the description of Ichabod riding his horse Gunpowder. #scarathlon #batbrigade @Catsandbooks
“Buried in the ancient churchyard is a trooper without a head, and in the gloomy moonlight he rises from the dead.“
In the poem it goes into detail about the headless horseman and where he is buried in the churchyard and how he comes alive at night.
This poem is about a place called Sleepy Hallow in New York. It is said that you should know about this place before going on your own. There are rumors about a headless horseman who was buried alive years ago and in gloomy moonlight he rises again. The poem is suspenseful and keeps you wanting to read more to know if anything happens.
I really like this poem. It is a good story and has a good rhythm. Every other line rhymes and it uses very good describing words. It is also a classic story and movie so kids will really enjoy it.
My next audiobook/ebook. It will be my second year in a row to read this one.

Day 27 of the #scarathlon photo challenge - Legend
Happy Friday! Today, I‘m sharing this book I bought on Audible last night with my 1 credit that I got this month. I‘ve never read this book but I think I‘ll like it because I like plays. I‘ve heard that this book is perfect for Halloween. I don‘t feel like reading another book because I like to take a break from reading during the last week of the month.

TODAY‘S CHALLENGE: LEGEND
Eep! Keith Morrison has a new podcast and he‘s reading Sleep Hollow as if it were a Dateline mystery. I LOVE Keith Morrison and this is going to be awesome.
It is finally starting to feel like Fall in North Carolina which means it‘s time for my annual reread of this book and I can finally match my book to the mug I bought last year (or was it the year before? I can‘t remember). 🎃
(also, pumpkin beaded by my mom (I don‘t know the name of the pattern designer to credit) and the ghost crocheted by me from a The Woobles pattern)
I feel like it has to be before I was born plus 1 generation, so before the 50‘s.
Tagged book is for me the epitome of spooky fall vibe.
Thanks for the tag @IndoorDame
Anyone else want to play? #two4tuesday
#fearfulfall playlist 2 of 2! I realise the sleepy hollow soundtrack should be in the other one, but I saved that one for songs I knew well!

#ScarathlonDailyPrompts #Day18 #Orange Catching up on the daily prompts, doing it now as I have to do a sleep apnea test tonight and will be wired up like Frankenstein‘s Monster! I chose this for Orange as the Horseman has an orange pumpkin for a head🎃And the title is orange! #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter 6pts
Thought it would be wise to familiarize myself with Irving Washington‘s classic before I start our #FearfulFall book - The Horseman. This was ok and my favorite use of a literary pumpkin 🎃 😁🧡 Light pick
This is the fifth year in a row that I‘ve listened to Tom Mison‘s narration of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and I think this is the most I‘ve enjoyed it. I must be in just the right mood for all things Sleepy Hollow. I find the story entertaining (thanks Disney!) and Mison‘s narration is delightful.

My Fall/Halloween vibes collage! I like it cozy, with a little bit of magic, a little bit of spook, classic movies, lots of dying leaves and lots of books!
Audible gave me a free copy of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” ages and ages ago, and I finally listened to it today on the first chunk of a good, long #audiowalk. The story was just okay, which I expected from my previous attempts to read it, but the walk was great. I went 6.25 miles, drank a free coffee, bought cheap butter, and found a ninjabread person cookie cutter at the thrift store! Whee!
Thanks to my #HHS package from @Littlewolf1 , I finally got to read this classic. I loved the Disney version as a kid. There was some unnecessary racism, which probably shouldn‘t surprise me. Otherwise it‘s a fun spooky classic. #Screamathon @4thhouseontheleft
Look at the super cute pillow covers @Littlewolf1 got me for #HauntedHallowSwap ! I love them! Thanks again, Crystal!! 🥰 #HHS @wanderinglynn
I included The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in my Halloween Classics post, but I‘ve never actually read it. So I decided it was time to change that. It was shorter than I realized. And I was shocked to find out that Ichabod isn‘t really a likable character. But I definitely know why it‘s a classic. It gave me the creeps.

Finally got around to reading this classic. After watching various adaptations of the tale, it's nice to learn the real ending of Ichabod Crane.

I can see why this would have been so popular for its time, but for me, it was just okay. A quick listen though. #classic

Halloween is such a nostalgic holiday for me. And there are certain books that just capture that Halloween feeling perfectly. So I made a cute little graphic to keep in my bullet journal. Some I‘ve read and some I want to read.
If you want a copy of this bullet journal insert you can find it here : https://wildwoodreads.com/2021/10/05/halloween-classics-printable-reading-journa...
If you decide to use it feel free to tag me! 😊
This morning I read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow as part of week 1 #Screamathon prompt #ScarePairs
Hoping I can watch one of the adaptations later in the week ☺️

Once again having only watched movie versions of a book I was surprised at how short the story was. Really enjoyed it. Another book read for #AwesomeAugust @Andrew65 although, once again it was not one of the books I listed as one of my book goals🤣
I've never read this, and I'm glad the #ChildrensClassicRead2021 for July gave me the opportunity! A fun slice of cheesy Gothic "horror" that was less scary than I expected but still pretty atmospheric and gripping. I would have liked more of the Headless Horseman, though ??
