The eagerly awaited new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files series. When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has nobody, and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends-and his own soul-Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any magic... Watch a Video

I finished this one today. #13 in the #DresdenFiles. It was kind of an emotional read for me. I worried that one of my fave #series would never be the same. And, it probably won‘t, but not in the way I was dreading. So, all is well enough at the end for me to want to keep reading, thank goodness. I ordered the next one in the series yesterday and will probably start it after this month‘s #LMPBC pick.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
To me this was my least favorite of the series. The action scenes were incredibly long winded and the pace of the story was so much slower than I‘m used to from this author. I adore this series and as the 13th book that‘s not a bad track record as the rest have been 4 or 5 stars for me.

julesG I think it might have worked better as a novella. 2y

Spoiler free review

Harry is sometimes brilliant and slow, just as always. Though due to the events at the end of "Changes" Harry has to work with a huge handicap this time.

Got up early, really early for a Sunday. Wanted to get some reviews done. #GhostCat is not willing to budge though. Guess it's #audioknitting o'clock for the moment.

Good thing I had book 13 of the Dresden Files ready.

🎧 These books & James Marsters getting even BETTER!

OK he had me at Evil Bob & kicked it up a notch with the action I love!

If you didn‘t read the previous book & don‘t understand the name of this book, stop now.

Harry‘s dead! He‘s tasked with finding his killer AS A GHOST!

So many great old & new characters, good character development, gross things, great bad guys, a fairy godmother from hell & cool monsters!

I loved this story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have lots of feelings about this one. I loved the story. I thought it was great and I definitely didn‘t see the ending coming. Harry was murdered and he‘s sent back to find out who murdered him. He‘s a ghost this whole time. I HATE THAT THEY CHANGED THE NARRATOR! I‘m sure John Glover is a great narrator but he‘s not Harry Dresden. That‘s James Marsters…

I figured being stuck at home was the perfect time to continue playing catch up with this series. I have until mid July, I can do it.....maybe?! My problem is I always get distracted by all the shiny new books.

I really like this series and most readers will be happy with Ghost Story, I imagine. I personally didn't prefer it though. I did like the premise (no spoilers) but was happy to regain the main plot in the subsequent story.

Still picking from books I own!

The 8th: Ghostly
Status: I have this one in hardcover, and I‘ve read it...although if he keeps putting off writing and publishing the next book I may have to re-read some of this series to remind myself what was going on with the many characters!🤷‍♀️

Sometimes I think I do too many rereads, but the beginning of the year was so swamped with work that I didn't have the energy to concentrate on many new books and now it feels wrong not to finish the series 😛

RachelAmphlett I love this series but admit I did struggle with this particular book. Out of so many hits though, I‘m not complaining! 5y
Katerina @RachelAmphlett The one I like the least till now is Skin Game. It feels a bit like a filler episode that doesn't really add to the overall story. But as you said: no real complaints. 5y

This is the book I like the least in the Dresden Files. Not because of the quality of the book, but because of all the suffering Dresden's friends go through. Molly especially breaks my heart. I guess that actually speaks for the quality of the story.

Traci1 Love the mug. ❤ 5y
ddbookreviews I have to agree, Changes and now Ghost story has left me traumatized. One person going through so much hell, physical and emotional. It was kind of like New Amsterdam's first season finale. Shock is all you have for what you have read. 3y

So, my library had this audiobook on Libby but the version they had was a different narrator from the rest of the series. I didn't like that narrator so I caved and bought the Audible book with the narrator I was used to and liked (James Marsters) 😂

This will be the longest audiobook I've ever listened to. 😬

I have really enjoyed this series so far but I think this was a low point for me.

The ending was amazing but the beginning and middle were hard work

Every single time I read a Dresden Files book I lose interest about half way through and then a couple months later I come back and race through the second half totally in love with the series. Why do I do this? Whats wrong me with/Dresden?

Objectively I feel like this probably should have been a so-so read for me. However I have no ability to be objective when it comes to Harry Dresden and I'm far too emotionally involved in these books to consider them any less then amazing. Basically what I'm saying is I loved it but don't trust me lol

Final total for the readathon was 7.5 hours. One complete book finished (the Alice Network) one previously started book finished (sideways stories from wayside high) and a few pages of Ghost Story by Jim Butcher. I only made it to 230 am and gave myself a junk food stomach ache but otherwise I'm very happy with this readathon. I burnt out on reading during the last one but I made a breaks a priority on this one. #readathon

Dresden gets introspective. There was some hair-raising action, as always, and a lot of soul-searching -- literally. Nice twists.

Book 13 in the Harry Dresden series. This book flips so many elements of the series - primarily Harry is dead. I liked how Harry has to consider how his actions have affected the world he lives in. Many series lose traction after a while but not this one.
