Harry potter is what got this book lover started. I was gifted the third book and made to promise I wouldn't read it until I had the first and second books. Of course I read it right away onder the covers with a flashlight. #sundayfunday

Happy Jólabókaflod litsy friends!!!
We celebrate this holiday every year, and do our book exchange on Christmas Eve. I got bill clinton and James Patterson‘s book- a president is missing. I‘m excited to start it. And I got my husband and son a book to read together- tagged. They both struggle with reading so hearing them share this and bond over the story makes my heart happy. Especially since I so loved these books as a kid!

wordslinger42 Your care package will be in the mail by the end of this week 💜 I'm so sorry for taking such a long time in getting it to you! We're taking care of my grandma at home with the help of hospice and don't have much time left with her, so life has been a bit crazy. But I'm so excited to send you your package!! Just wanted you to know I hadn't forgotten! 😊 5y
Amabear @wordslinger42 your so sweet thank you for remembering me ❤️ I hope you are able to slow and enjoy this time with her! So hard to go through these things around the holidays 5y
wordslinger42 @Amabear Of course!! It's been a joy spot to pick out things for you! My mom, @curiouserandcurioser got in on the fun, too 😊 Thank you so much. I agree. It's hard at any time of year, but it seems especially hard at this time 5y
Amabear @wordslinger42 I keep reminding myself that Christmas isn‘t about pretending to have joy when your hurting, but about celebrating the light that conquers the darkness❤️ tis the season for healing. 5y
wordslinger42 @Amabear Oh wow, I love that!! Thanks for sharing that with me 💜 5y

#ucflae3414f19 Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House: #1 Dinosaurs Before Dark is apart of a New York Times Bestselling Series and an awesome F read! This book will take students on a prehistoric ride back to the days when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and would be best used for IR. EL strategy 30 could help students make images of the dinosaurs that Jack and Annie encounter throughout the book...

KristenScala ... and UDL strategy 3.1 of supplying background knowledge on dinosaurs. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/dinosaurs-dark... 5y
DrSpalding Scholastic is a quality resource and the series is fantastic for middle grade elementary students. You could also read this aloud to primary children and entice them to read the series on their own once they become independent readers. 5y

my favorite part was the beginning of the story when they discover the magic powers of the tree house. It was so cool as a child and still is to see this kind of story line. He opened the book and had no idea what was going to happen it was a stay on the edge of your seat moment

I used to read these series of books when I was younger and always was so excited to open it up and see where the tree house would take them next. Dinosaurs before dark was always one of my favorites because I think every child loved reading about these mysterious creatures that seem made up but were real. I love that the different books in the treehouse are what causes them to go on the adventure

This is a modern fantasy book. This was one of my brother and my favorite books growing up. We always loved the idea of the book. It‘s such a good read for kids. The author made this book believable because he uses real events and real people inside the magic treehouse.

MTH Dinosaurs Before Dark morning is a F which could be used as an IR/GR/PR/LC. Before Annie and Jack can find out the mysterious treehouse takes them to the prehistoric past. Are they able to make it home before the dinosaurs eat them?

AlyssaB The ESOL strategy would be 47 which is sharing pieces of information to solve problems in the story will help each story student understand lesson being taught. The UDL strategy is 8.3 which foster collaboration and community. Https://www.superteacherworksheets.com/book-magic treehouse-dinosaursbeforedark.html #UCFLAE3414F19 #mthmarypopeosbourne 5y

DrSpalding You are so right that you could use these books in a variety of ways in your classroom and most would foster collaboration and community. Go directly to the publisher/author for the resources for the series. They are amazing. 5y

This SF book a part of the Magic Treehouse Series by Mary Pope Osbourne is about Jack and Annie traveling back to the time where dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Read about their encounters with Pterandons, a Tyrannosaurus Rex and even a pack of Anatosaurus! I think that this would be a good IR to allow children to jump into the story at their own pace. I would use UDL strategy 6.1 ( guide appropriate goal-setting) and ESOL strategy 29 ( offer a ....

Bshelton27 Variety of reference materials at the students instructional level for independent use) by providing additional information about the dinosaurs in the story. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/dinosaurs-dark... is a great site for activities pertaining to this great read! #ucflae3414su19 5y

Started reading this with my little guy. Trying to instill a love of reading into him at a young age. He reads a chapter then I read a chapter. He is really getting good and only needs help with a few words per page.

Traci1 I loved reading those with my older kiddos. We invested in all of them up to like the 45th book. I hung onto the set for some reason (they're now 20 and almost 16), and then we had a surprise come along 3 years ago. I'm so glad I kept them. Can't wait to start them with my little dude. 7y
Fantasyfan @Traci1 Wow! We don‘t have that many of them but we have quite a few. He struggled to choose between Dino‘s and dolphins so I‘m guessing that will be next. I love the variety that comes with this series. So many different topics. 7y
Traci1 @Fantasyfan I bought a lot of them used for like 50 cents each. I think my husband thought I was crazy. We homeschooled, though, and I used them for lessons too, so it was a good investment. Even better now that we have a 3rd to share them with. 7y
robinb My kids adored this series...zoomed through them. Good memories! 😊 6y

I‘m a special education preschool teacher at an inclusive preschool. My classroom is typical and special education students between 3 and 4. I started reading the first book & every child LOVED it! Even my student who understands English but speaks mostly French keeps asking for more! The fact that I can read a chapter book to these kids is one thing, but that the all love it is another! Now I just need to find an inexpensive way to get the rest!

My 6 year old says: it was good, but it was really really short. 10 chapters and each chapter was super short. I‘m done now because I read it in my head [while her mom made dinner] But yeah it was good, it was Jack and Annie‘s first adventure.

This modern fantasy short novel is apart of my favorite childhood book series! It is perfect for Elementary schoolers who are just starting to read chapter books! I would use this as independent reading to help them get introduced into chapter books! This is the first book in the series and is about Jack and Annie, two siblings, who travel back into the time of the dinosaurs!

MakennaK I will use the authors website https://www.magictreehouse.com and have the kids go through and interact with it because it has some amazing and fun activities for each book! I'll use UDL 5.1, use multimedia for communication, since I will have them interact with her website. I'll use ELL 1, teach questioning for clarification, since it will be their first time using chapter books! #ucflae3414f17 7y
ashley.v I used to love magic treehouse as well. I still do and i confess i still read them occasionally. I definitely want some for my classroom!! 7y
SavannahP0930 These books were the best! A lot of time travel books were so cheesy but this series feels so real and exciting! Great book choice 7y

I'm not sure how I feel about this Modern Fantasy. Sure the concept of the book is cute a tree house that magically takes you to the land of dinosaurs.....totally cool for a child. I just don't think this would be my first choice or recommendation. Perhaps you could use it as a fun way to introduce a unit on Dinosaurs lessonplanet.com/teachers/dinosaurs-before-dark-1st-5th #UCFWalterslit

CWalters I'm hoping you'll receive replies from classmates on the many reasons why this series is so popular. 7y
TanishaRosa I haven't read any books from this series, but I agree it could be used to introduce a topic for the Engage part of a lesson. I might read one to see if I understand it's popularity. Your resource includes some helpful instructional ideas; I like the suggestion of comparing it with a nother book in the series. 7y

This book is the first in the serious of the magic tree house, and it's a mixed genre. Some say it's HF, while others say it is F. This book talks about the discovery of the magic tree house, and leaves you wanting more at the end! This links provides you with lessons that cover science, language arts, and math! https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/dinosaurs-dark... #UCFLAE3414sp17
