I have had this trilogy in my TBR FOREVER.
Only just come to read the ‘His Dark Materials‘ trilogy and I have to say I‘m blown away by them. So much imagination, makes me feel like a kid again! I‘m really in love with these books ❤️
My first read of 2020 was a reread of a childhood favourite - it blew me away just as much as it did when I was twelve 🙌 As a kid, I loved the adventure. As an adult, I loved the world building and the complex relationships. And I managed to binge all eight episodes of the BBC adaptation yesterday before I fly home today ✈
The tv show made me curious again, and so I decided to re-read the books series after probably... 10 years? I think I was ten years old, and some parts scared me to death while others left me confused. I‘m close to the end of the first book, and I love the special connection between Lyra and Iorek.

Going into this book, I thought this was another fantastical world with strange creatures and phenomenas but it is deeper than your average fantasy book. It takes elements from religion, philosophy, free thinking and how sometimes religion hinders it. I loved the idea of the soul of a human, called daemon, being an animal, detached from your body.
This is a fantastic book that has a lot of exciting things that make you want to read the next part.

I started watching the new HBO series, His Dark Materials, & really have been enjoying it, so I decided to start reading the books. This first book in the trilogy had been adapted for screen years back but the movie really didn't do the book justice. I absolutely loved the book and main character, Lyra. The magic of this book brings back the feeling of comfort and childhood that series like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter produced.
Anybody else watching the His Dark Materials series? The books weren‘t my favorite things I read as a child but I am very intrigued by the series. (Yes I watch absolutely everything with subtitles)
OMG she‘s perfect! Love Ruth Wilson!
Looking forward to this one - might watch episode 1 tonight. 👍🏼
Hope you all got to catch the pilot episode tonight! I thought it was fabulous! I am now eagerly awaiting the next episode! I was also pleasantly surprised by the slightly creepy factor 😏 If you have watched it yet make sure that you do! Let me know what you think!

Today‘s the day the new series of Philip Pullman‘s His Dark Materials starts on the BBC1 at 8 pm. HBO and BBC jointly produced this so presumably is available elsewhere too.
Wow, this book was great! I can‘t believe I‘ve never read this series before. I was so drawn into this world and Lyra‘s journey, I was finding stuff to do around the house so I could finish this!
I can‘t wait to read the rest of this series.

This book seems really interesting and fun for kids. It would allow them to use their imagination when it comes to mythical creatures and animals. The content I think would be appreciated by young students and readers, but might be challenging to read on their own. This book takes place in a mysterious alternate universe.
The Golden Compass written by Philip Pullman. Chapter 1 p.1-14. This book takes place in an alternate universe where “daemons“ are real. A daemon is a supernatural creature but in the book, it's basically your soul in the form of a talking animal that goes wherever you go. I would classify this book as High Fantasy or Science Fiction because of the complex characters and journeys.
The Golden Compass was written by Philip Pullman in 1995. This book involves a young girl named Lyra who is followed by a spiritual Daemon, who holds her soul and experiences everything she can. A group in this novel called Gobblers, are trying to destroy the bond between a child and its Daemon, and will stop at nothing until they destroy every single one. I enjoyed this book and love the movie as well!
I was excited to read this since HBO is coming out with the first season this fall. I enjoyed the first several chapters and the last several chapters. I really struggled in the middle. I feel like you could just cut 100 pages out and have a better book. Even though I would say, it's worth the read.
Not Convinced I'll read the next book in the series. Maybe I'll wait to watch season 1 of the show before I decide.
I've finished one more book (tagged) for #BFC since classes started! While meal prepping a couple days ago. But maybe all of the reading I've been doing for classes counts for something? 😂 I have an intensive course that's eating up my Fridays and Saturdays for now, and when that's over I should be able to get into a better rhythm! Also still wearing a knee brace and not running, it's driving me crazy! #BookFitnessChallenge #bookdragons #BFCr3
I am ready! I know the film was trash, but I have high hopes they did it justice with the show🤞🏻
