Finished this while on a very boring Zoom meeting... whoops! I am loving this trilogy!!

Going with a pick- this time. I love the concept of this series but there‘s something about it that makes it hard for me to love the books themselves. Partly because I dislike present-tense narration, and partly because so much is so bleak, I think.

Lee has to face her uncle and his henchmen in this second installment of the Gold Seer trilogy. I‘ll read the third but I‘m not diving right in.

This book was AMAZING. After the almost unbearable 1st book, i got to the second, and i loved it!! It was full of adventure and action with minimal traveling scenes. On top of that, the book ended absolutely wonderfully. Im not sure what the 3rd book could even be about.

The setting was the real star of this sequel which I enjoyed a little less than the first book in the series.

Really enjoying this trilogy! Read the first book ages ago, and then was waiting for book 2. Waited so long that book 3 is out too now, haha. #howjessreadsin2019

I loved the first book in this series and the second book was just as good. After settling in Glory, California at a rich spot for gold, Leah and her friends run into trouble. Leah's murdering Uncle Hiram wants to take Leah and use her gold witchy powers for his own profit. There is plenty of action and conflict. I also like how the author did thorough research into the period and clearly portrayed the horrors and injustices of the time.

These are my foothills. I live in and love my small (read: tiny, as in no stop lights) gold mining town nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. The gold rush has never left our neck of the woods. We as a family pan & sluice our land. The first 2 of this trilogy have been so enjoyable! In this one they are in the mid 1800's in early settlement California. Lovely blend of fact & fiction. ☆☆☆☆☆ 🌄

Historical fiction with a touch of magic...this is the second book in Rae Carson's Gold Rush series and it was just as compelling and fresh as the first. Rae Carson continues to be one of my favorite authors! 💞

Current read. Had to take a break from the Christmas books. 😄

A good, solid B! Liked more than the first book: higher stakes, more danger, contained action, such an interesting setting.

Often in trilogies, the first book is my favorite, but I can easily say this sequel to Walk on Earth a Stranger was just as enjoyable and thrilling as the first. Leah's magical golden powers are expanded upon, the tension and bursting love present are palpable in just the right instances, and the climax is utterly explosive. We finally get to see California in the grip of "gold fever", and it is both inspiring and horrifying. #booknerd #YA #review

Love it, love it, love it! Great character development, historical detail, good pacing, and I want more! One more in the trilogy. I love Rae Carson's writing.

I hate getting bad news in the mail :( We got rejected for the one loan we had a shot at because my husband co signed a medical bill for his brother (it was life or death level stuff) and that's shafted us because the USDA is counting it on top of our other expenses. We're expected to move by late March so the church can start demo on the parsonage, and we haven't got any options now. Time for book comfort 😢

Relaxing day on the books, with some store work. Working on a shawl and watching anime or reading, then adding new releases to my book listings. I've been really stressed lately with having to find a new home and dealing with kids and them not handling moving at all, and will be working at least four ten hour days in a row later this week, so I'm taking today and tomorrow easy. Loving this book so far 😊

not sure how this compares to the first book, I found the beginning slow to get into & in some ways may prefer the first book more, however I did enjoy this continuation of Lee's story & will likely be picking up the last book in the trilogy because I want to know more about what trouble she is going to get into now & how it's all going to be sorted out

Amazing and heartbreaking. A different kind of story from the first book but I still couldn't put it down. I love Leah and her voice; however, the characterization of the wonderful and diverse cast does suffer some from the first person narrative. Interesting magic, but still so many questions. I can't wait for the next one. Give it a try if you enjoyed the first book.

I liked this book. I was particularly interested in the indigenous peoples, and how they were treated during this time period. I love this strong young woman. I see where another book could happen, but I'm glad that it seems to be a stand alone book as well. I enjoyed it. #LitsyAtoZ #C. I finished the book just as I started, on the couch, reclined, surrounded by my furry babies, listening to the rain.

Still me, the book, the dog, and the rain. I hear there is a pond in my backyard. Maybe if Leah was here she would find gold in it. Not enjoying this one as much as the first, but good none the less.

Book 2 in the Gold Seer trilogy is jam packed with action. Lee and her motley crew are now in 1849 California aiming to make a go of it. But her horrid uncle looms large. The dangers feel real. The pioneer setting is interesting. The racial tensions & violence are serious (her afterword addresses her research and further reading on this disturbing topic). The story is full and engaging. I loved it and am glad it was my #MountTBR book 1 for 2017.

December was a pretty good month for me reading wise. Not only did I get through a lot of my #tbr stack, I also had many 4 star reads. 😁

A really strong addition to what was already an interesting series.

Loved this sequel as much (if not more) than the first. While full of adventure and a touch of fantasy, it also briefly looks at the atrocities committed against Native Americans and Chinese people during the Gold Rush. (In the acknowledgements Carson mentions some good books to read regarding this. My #tbr list just got longer.) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Really enjoyed this one! It was a slower month for me but still managed to get in a few 4 star reads, including Like a River Glorious.

Wow! This Wild West story set during the CA Gold Rush is exciting and action-packed with plenty of heart. Featuring great characters, a compelling narrative, and language that is simple but beautiful, this book is not to be missed! "The gold is deep. I feel it pulsing way down in the earth. It glitters bright in my mind. And when the gold speaks to me, I speak back." Be sure to read #walkonearthastranger first and then enjoy this one after!

Finished this in the wee hours of the morning. While I loved Walk on Earth a Stranger, there's just something about a Western, I'm not quite as enamoured with Like a River Glorious. It's more of a liked it a lot type of feeling. It was a good read, kept my attention and made me care about certain characters. And I absolutely loved what Lee figured out about herself and home, as it's something I've come to realize about myself as well.

I can't wait to start this today!
