Girls' Night Out
Girls' Night Out | Liz Fenton, Lisa Steinke
From the bestselling authors of The Good Widow comes a chilling novel of psychological suspense that will make you think twice about what your best friend may be hiding...For estranged friends Ashley, Natalie, and Lauren, it's time to heal the old wounds between them. Where better to repair those severed ties than on a girls' getaway to the beautiful paradise of Tulum, Mexico? But even after they're reunited, no one is being completely honest about the past or the secrets they're hiding. When Ashley disappears on their girls' night out, Natalie and Lauren have to try to piece together their hazy memories to figure out what could have happened to her, while also reconciling their feelings of guilt over their last moments together. Was Ashley with the man she'd met only days before? Did she pack up and leave? Was she kidnapped? Or worse--could Natalie or Lauren have snapped under the weight of her own lies?As the clock ticks, hour by hour, Natalie and Lauren's search rushes headlong into growing suspicion and dread. Maybe their secrets run deeper and more dangerous than one of them is willing--or too afraid--to admit.

Three friends with issues to resolve take a trip to Mexico to try to reconnect.

The issues seemed to compound rather than lessen. When one of the friends is missing the morning after a wild night of drinking, the tension between the two remaining friends continues and worsens as their fears mount.

The tension in the last 20% of the book definitely picked up my interest.

I'm glad these ladies were friends with each other because I can't imagine anyone else wanting to be. I enjoyed the descriptions of the resort, town, & specific locations. I liked that we got POVs from all three MCs & I was interested to find out what happened to the missing friend. But they were all so selfish & petty that it was a struggle to care about any of them. Made me think about the nature & function of friendship.

This was an enjoyable, quick listen! While I can‘t say that I particularly liked any of the characters - they were all pretty selfish - I did enjoy trying to figure out what happened to the one friend who seemed to disappear after a mysterious night out. Made my workday go by very fast! 🌟🌟🌟 1/2

Meh. As a quick brain candy read this was satisfactory. The mystery was fairly predictable although there were a few layers by the end. I found two of the three characters pretty irritating, especially Ashley. There were some weird writing quirks that bugged me, although they came and went so I wonder if the authors were alternating writing chapters. Filled 2 female authors prompt for #popsugar.

This was a super quick read about 3 friends who have had a falling out, but decide to take a trip to Mexico to see if they can fix their friendships. In the meantime, one wakes up on the beach soaking wet having no idea how she got there, and another has gone missing. I read this pretty fast, and the last few chapters were surprising. #NetGalley #GirlsNightOut

I kept reading to find out what happened to Ashley on this girls‘ trip to Mexico but these three women were miserable! They were so petty and self absorbed that it was hard to believe that they were really best friends. The mystery‘s ok, the women just made it hard for me to really like this book.

ashley_o13 I listened to the audiobook for this and honestly only finished it because I wanted to know what happened to her. But the ending was pretty bland if you ask me. Like I still don't understand if she intended to kill her or if she just got really close to her when arguing. The story was very scattered in my opinion 6y

This was an ARC review. I really enjoyed the plot. I wanted to keep reading to see if all my theories were right. (They weren't!) The only thing I didn't really like about the book were the characters. The three main characters seemed juvenile. Their dialogue read like women much younger than 40, but don't let that deter you. It's still definitely worth a read if you enjoy a good thriller and more than one POV. #Netgalley #ARC #GirlsNightOut

What Fenton & Steinke do best is conversation. Did you not feel like you were on this trip too? Beyond the story are deeper themes of secrets, complicated relationships (at what point is a friendship obligatory?) and mystery. The brilliant aspect is the juxtaposition of complex friendships against a frantic search for a loved one. Female relationships are complex, but 3 is never an ideal number and this ratchets the tension even further.

Ch. 1: Natalie was in a haze, somewhere between sleep & semiconsciousness, about to let herself dip back into a deep lull when she felt a breeze tickle her bare arms....She was outside. On the beach. Lying under 1 of the hotel‘s rustic cabanas...As she swung her legs over the side of the chaise, her wet dress clung to her. When she pulled at it, sand fell from the hem. She stood slowly as her head spun...She took a deep breath to get her bearings.

Three friends with issues to resolve take a trip to Mexico to try to reconnect, but then one goes missing.

GIRLS‘ NIGHT OUT gives wonderful reasons for friendships to repair themselves and for women to support each other, but the suspense was at the end.

The tension in the last 20% of the book definitely picked up my interest and my opinion despite the slow read.

I really wanted to like this book, but to me something was missing. Ashley, Lauren, and Natalie go to Mexico for a Girls trip to try to repair their friendship. But when Ashley friends with a local it doesn't set well with the two other friends. But one night the girls go out and Ashley doesn't come back. Natalie who was last seen with her can't remember anything. What happened to Ashley? 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Just finished.

GIRLS‘ NIGHT OUT was suspenseful because of the missing friend, but the majority of the book was about repairing friendships and revealing secrets and dragged a bit.

The tension in the last 20% of the book definitely picked up my interest and my opinion despite the slow read until then. So instead of a 3/5, I am changing my rating to a 4/5.

Full review will be on July 24.

Girls' Night Out wasn't the "chilling novel of psychological suspense" it was described as at all, just a mystery, and one that unfortunately didn't grab my attention. I'm sure this will be a big beach read for summer 2018 but I'm disappointed in the predictable plot and the anticlimactic ending.

3.8/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️Three best friends vacation in Mexico in hopes of reconnecting and healing old wounds, but after a #girlsnightout, Ashley is missing. This book was a suspenseful, easy-read. It hooked me right away, but I found Ashley annoying, her actions a tad unrealistic, and parts of the middle of the book a bit slow. However, the suspense built up again, and I had to know what happened. The ending was satisfying and fairly realistic #arc

When you need to workout, but you would rather read... you bike because you can do both! 🤣💪📚 I would listen to an audiobook so I could run, but I only have an #arc of this one my kindle. Does any one else do this?

#arc #netgalley #girlsnightout #GNO #gymreading #rainynightreading #priorities #multitasking

JanuarieTimewalker13 I can‘t do bouncy things and read. But I can listen. The only thing is, when I exercise, I prefer dance music bc it pumps me up. 6y
Jess7 Well I try to bike faster at the beginning to get my heart rate up and then I‘ll get a better pace to allow for reading. The stationary bike is my goto when I want to read my kindle but need to workout. It‘s my I went to the gym but I‘m only sort of committed workout lol @JanuarieTimewalker13 6y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Please, I‘m the worst. Joined gym at school, went once, that one session cost me $54. Lol. I dropped class so to go there was inconvenient. I love the elliptical bc my leg feels normal on it (I had a hip fracture almost 2 years ago, still not right). What I‘ve been trying lately is a little dancing in the a.m. and just holding a yoga plank pose for a minute at night. I have to get going on exercise, it‘s so important! 6y

2BR02B I Kindle on the stationary bike and stair machine. Occasionally, if I'm particularly immersed in a dead tree book I'll try to read it on the treadmill, but the pages wind up a little damp and sweaty. 😅 6y
Pamwurtzler Absolutely - kindle on the bike & podcasts on the track! 6y
Kaye Don‘t tell me the bike isn‘t a workout ? I‘ve been using it for a year and a half. It works me out. I‘m old and tired. If I can still peddle, then I can get my heart rate to 60. Isn‘t that good enough ? 6y
Slajaunie I listen to audiobooks on the elliptical. Too much motion for 📖! 6y
Jess7 @Kaye it‘s great! 🤗 🤣 It‘s just not a full body workout like running is for me. If I want to tone my abs I have to either run or do crunches and I hate crunches 😂 (edited) 6y
Kaye I couldn‘t FIND my abs anymore. I do crunches every time I bend over. My whole body crunches and clangs. Just wear extra clothes. It‘ll cover up those difficult spots. I‘ve found that a turtleneck , sweatpants and hip boots can cover up lots of body flaws. 6y
Jess7 Agreed! Dancing sounds fun! A woman I work with tells me all the time how she takes belly dancing classes and loves it! I‘ve never been much for workout classes but I‘ve always had a love/hate relationship with running. I think I might try a Barre class though. I took nine years of ballet as a kid and I always enjoyed it. @JanuarieTimewalker13 6y
Jess7 @2BR02B the stairs are so much harder than they look at the gym! I‘ve tried reading on them, missed my footing and almost fell! I will not be trying that again any time soon! 🤣 6y
Jess7 Yay! 🎉🎉 @Pamwurtzler 6y
Jess7 Yeah - I would have to do audiobooks on an elliptical too! @Slajaunie 6y
Copwithabook Yes!!!!! 6y
