Star Wars: Lost Stars
Star Wars: Lost Stars | Claudia Gray
The reign of the Galactic Empire has reached the Outer Rim planet of Jelucan, where aristocratic Thane Kyrell and rural villager Ciena Ree bond over their love of flying. Enrolling at the Imperial Academy is nothing less than a dream come true for both of them. But Thane sours on the dream when he sees firsthand the horrific tactics the Empire uses to maintain its ironclad rule.Bitter and disillusioned, he joins the fledgling Rebellion--putting Ciena in an unbearable position between her loyalty to the Empire and her love for the man she's known since childhood. Now on opposite sides of the war, will these friends turned foes ever find a way to be together, or will duty tear them--and the galaxy--apart?This paperback edition includes the exciting first chapter from Claudia Gray's upcoming novel, Leia: Princess of Alderaan.

LOST STARS by Claudia Gray.

The perfect starter novel for any wanting to read STAR WARS, Lost Stars is a Romeo&Juliet-esque tale of a pair of childhood friends who grow up in the Empire, dreaming of becoming pilots. One realizes the Empire is evil & defects to the Rebellion, the other is an Imperial patriot.

Epic & heartbreaking, this beautiful story showcases events of the original trilogy from the POV of the two protags.

A book about two star-crossed lovers taking place in the time between the Original Trilogy and The Force Awakens. This book is easy to follow for people who are casual fans of the Star Wars franchise. The audiobook has a fun sound design that makes you feel like you were in the ships and battles. Overall, it was fun to listen to after enjoying the Mandalorian and jumping back into this universe again after not liking the Rise of Skywalker.

I really enjoyed this book especially since it gave a flip side to the destruction of Alderaan and the death star. Thane Kyrell and Cena Ree are childhood friends who attend the Imperial Academy to become pilots. Of course at some point they fall in love and one leaves the Empire and one stays. The best parts are those that show another perspective to familiar story we all know 🚀

I got 330 pages into this book. Still 220 pages left 🤦‍♀️

I just can‘t keep going. I wouldn‘t have gotten so far if it wasn‘t set in the Star Wars universe and I wasn‘t so interested. But it just got too YA. Literally all they did was think about each other. I was going to start skimming, but why skim 200 pages... Moving on!

Lost stars blurs the lines between being a terrorist and a hero in a fascinating and devastating manner. Although it has many strong points such as the romance between ciena and thane I felt they could show more of the downfall of the empire after the battle of endor. Ending with an explanation of reys jakku home from the force awakens.

This was a pleasant surprise for a Stat Wats novel. I enjoyed the story and introduction of new characters. I loved Thane Kyrell's story arc more than Ciena Ree's; mainly because we saw Thane grow. Ciena's arc was a bit more frustrating, even to the end. Speaking of ending....I wish it ended differently. But, overall, I think this was a great read. 4 out of 5.

Maybe the best new canon Star Wars books. Enough of a connection to the original trilogy to be familiar, but not too much to distract from the engaging new characters. Spanning the original trilogy before ending with a glimpse of the Battle of Jakku, this story was a massive undertaking handled beautifully.

After seeing the trailer for the new Star Wars movie, I needed to get back in that world. This book looks at the events of the first trilogy through the viewpoint of two friends who became Imperial officers. Although the two are falling in love, at the same time they are coming to different conclusions about the legitimacy of the Empire they serve. The new characters are well developed, and the brushes with Leia, Luke, and Han are delightful.

This IS the Star Wars book you‘re looking for!

A unique look at the war with the Rebellion from the point of view of two cadets that have been indoctrinated by the Empire! A beautiful tale about friendship, love, and honor set against the backdrop of a growing galactic war. This book was a perfect blend of classic Star Wars and the newer Disney stories. You might say this book brought balance to the Force! 😉

Still catching up... I really enjoyed this story! I think the premise was definitely intriguing, and the author skillfully crafted a very believable trajectory for the main characters. This could have been a real eye-roller, but I felt she took on some interesting moral and social questions thoughtfully, and with nuance. It takes place concurrent with the original trilogy, and there‘s just enough references to invoke that era without overdoing it.

Alicia So glad you liked it! I enjoyed it a lot as well 😁😁😁 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes! I liked this one too! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa But you‘re right, it could have gone wrong in so many ways, but she walked a great, but very fine line there, between making it eye-rolling and predictable and making it interesting and thought provoking. 6y
DivaDiane I really loved this book. Having lived many, many years in Germany, I found it a very meaningful and poignant look at how good, well-meaning people can end up doing atrocious acts and get stuck in what outsiders rightly see as a corrupt government. 6y

It took me a bit to get into this, but then I zoomed through to the end. Such a great concept to revisit the original trilogy through two best friends, as they find themselves involved in stories & battles we know, but get to see them from the point of view of these new characters, seeing things “through their eyes” as the world goes crazy around them and to see how they deal with it and each other, as their loyalties shift.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @InLibrisVeritas Yes, that was really a brilliant way to write it, and a great way to show how good people can get sucked in and end up fighting for horrible things...which seems really poignant to me at the moment. What an unexpected delight! I've been on a bit of a Star Wars kick lately, working my way through the movies again (I'm about to start the prequels, wish me luck). Started this on a whim. Childhood friends end up on opposing sides: one an imperial guard and one part of the rebellion. Set during the events of the original triolgy. There are battles, poignant moments, & a love story that's integral but not overpowering. I want a sequel so bad.

callielafleur Claudia Gray's Star Wars are just wonderful. ❤️❤️ 6y

readordierachel @rohit-sawant This is my first actually, and I do feel like it was a good starting point! Mainly because this follows the timeline of the original trilogy, so the places and battles and some of the characters were kind of familiar. It was YA (good YA though! Very smart), so if that's not your cup of tea you might want to start somewhere else? 6y
callielafleur @ReadOrDieRachel I loved Bloodline. Princess Leia really gets explored as a character, which I fully approved of. I'm my opinion, she's the most important person in the whole series, and the movies barely touch on it. 😊 6y
readordierachel @callielafleur Sounds great! I will check it out. 6y
RohitSawant @ReadOrDieRachel I don't mind that its YA! I like a good love story as long as it isn't the sole focus & isn't too eye-rolley. 😆 Your description of it sounds perfect! Great knowing there are points of resonance with the films. Can't wait to start with this! 6y
