Doesn‘t this look like interesting HF?
Though I despise love triangles and adulterous royals (and I knew of both before starting the book), I‘m giving my time with Empress Elizabeth of Austria a “pick” simply because I enjoyed the historical atmosphere Goodwin creates. Plus, I loved Charlotte Baird with her independence and interest in photography.
#BackpackEurope: Austria ✔️
This morning, I‘m heading to spend time with Austrian royalty. 🇦🇹
#BackpackEurope #MountTBR
Historical Romance isn‘t usually a sub genre I would read, but read this following good reviews on Litsy. I have to say though this one surprised me and overall I did enjoy it. Perfect for a road trip as an audiobook. I was pleased to see there was no sex thrown in your face in this one and more referred to; not what I want in my reading. I do feel the book was a tad longer than it needed to be but still very enjoyable. #BlameItOnLitsy
Started listening to The Fortune Hunter following good comments on Litsy, most notably @Kalalalatja
A little bit out of my usual comfort zone.
This was a light hearted, fun and enjoyable read! I love historical fiction about royalty, and getting to know Empress Sisi of Austria was a great experience! I love a good love triangle drama, and this book certainly didn‘t disappoint!
#BackpackEurope
I‘m not sure Empress Sisi would approve if she was served our Austrian Hindfleisch gullasch, but it sure tastes delicious (though it isn‘t the most photogenic dish ?)
I used to go skiing every year in Austria, and I have some really fond memories of the food on the slopes. My favourites are, not surprisingly, desserts. I just love apfelstrüdel and Kaiserschmarrn, which is a form of scrambled pancakes ?
#backpackEurope mini challenge
#Ivebeenwaitingforyou because all the other books I tried for my Austria book for #BackpackEurope didn‘t work out for me. And based on @Cinfhen ‘s review, I‘m in for a fun read 👏
#LibraryHaul
#BackPackEurope My first full #audio not read by the author and not NF. I must say, I really enjoyed listening to this rich, vivid HF. Set in the late 1800‘s a love triangle featuring real people, Daisy Goodwin creates an exciting, entertaining story of desire, wealth, loyalty, horses( LOTS of horses) & of course betrayal. It seems I‘ve “encountered” a travel delay so for the next week I‘m left to explore Austria. Off to see the sights😘
#BackPackEurope Enjoying my scandalous love triangle on #audio 😀Nothing beats a bunch of royals behaving badly❣️❣️❣️ and the descriptions of the homes, jewels and decadence is really enchanting 👑It‘s Empress Sisi of Austria vs young orphan Charlotte Baird and the “prize” English Captain Bay Middleton.
#BackpackEurope I have “traveled” from Prague to Austria 🇦🇹 about to Indulge in some royal illicit romance 💍👑🎩#audio
I‘ve been obsessed with this cover forever! Found a copy yesterday at the market for $0.50!! Anyone else read it? Thoughts?
Daisy Goodwin doesn't disappoint when it comes to Victorian times.
She can easily draw you into the story.
Loved the Queen Victoria parts.
I liked Victoria a bit more (maybe because I know more about her)
Great first line to a book.
Starting with a giggle
Castor and Pollux.......hmmmm, where have I heard those names before? Hint: They were cameramen in a well known dystopian series.
Been loving this #audiobook which saved me during a long tedious meeting.
I liked The American Heiress better, but this was fine. The ending fell a bit flat for me, but it won't stop me from reading more from her. ⭐⭐1/2 /⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"You could travel the breadth of my fair country and never come across someone quite like me."
"Well, that is a relief."
? ? ? ? ?
A very enjoyable piece of historical fiction. I picked this up in the library on a whim, and I'm glad I did. Very interesting characters and a strong female central character. While the ending was a bit contrived, it was still satisfying. Worth the time, and definitely better than An American Heiress by the same author.
Apologies if this is a double post. My phone is being recalcitrant this morning. #readJanuary #page24ofcurrentread My current fiction and nonfiction reads at page 24. I'm almost finished with The Fortune Hunter, but in the nonfiction, Reinventing Bach, I'm not too far beyond 24😊
#readJanuary #bookandyourfavesnack I've recently been diagnosed as borderline diabetic, so I am trying to be careful about what I eat. But to be honest, this is not my favorite snack, even though I'm trying to convince myself that it is. Truthfully, I just spent the last two hours helping hubby review and edit a journal article by authors whose native language is Chinese. I am in desperate need of chocolate. Lots of chocolate 😂
I'm really enjoying this, somewhat to my surprise. I had really mixed feelings about the author's American Heiress, and I'd seen varying opinions of this one. But I think the characters are more interesting and more sympathetic. I hope i continue to feel this way. #currentlyreading
#readJanuary. I've developed an interest in the non-English European #royals, probably from having lived in Prague. This is TBR that I picked up at the library yesterday that features Empress Elizabeth of Austria. I've read mixed reviews, so I'll see for myself.
#libraryhaul. Actually, the two on the bottom are my husband's, and it was his idea to stop at the library this morning. But I didn't say no. And there's yet two more wrenches thrown into TBR plans🙄
A little predictable but it was a good book to listen to on audiobook to get me through a long car trip.
Mr. Teddy told me to start this book so I did. 😐 because I'm obviously a freak. 😉
I'll get to this book sooner or later. it's in my shelf waiting to be read!
I throughly enjoyed this fictionalized love story based on real people. Daisy Goodwin does a wonderful job including the reader in the emotions of the characters.
Good historical fiction set during the Victorian age. The main characters were real people and Goodwin developed an interesting story for them. I really liked the heroine, Charlotte, and her interest in photography was the thread that tied the story together.
I loved the characters and the relationships in this book - even more so when I realized they were all based on real people. The way the story rotated through three points of view created suspense. Romantic and rich in detail, I'd recommend this to any fan of Victorian era historical fiction.
