I'm calling this an excellent read because I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I finished a few days ago and I'm confident I'll be thinking about for a long time. The state of the world, and the live/work concept of Cloud, feel all too plausible, which is alarming. However, I wish the book had ended differently. This was probably the "right"ending as this isn't a feel good book but I'm a sucker for a happy ending. ?‍♀️

BkClubCare I am craving only HEA reads right now! (And yet my current one has election stuff 🤦🏻‍♀️) 2mo

In near future America, where resources are scarce (Black Friday massacres destroyed shopping in personal) and climate change has been pitiless, the only company that is thriving is Cloud. Led by one men, operated from warehouses where people work and live, drones deliver goods all over the world.
‘What happens when Big Brother meets Big Business?‘ it says in the blurb and that sums it up well.
A highly inventive story, frighteningly plausible.

⭐️⭐️I appreciate what the author was trying to say in terms of how corporate is taking over our lives however the execution was seriously lacking. Needed better character development and world building. Ending left me unsatisfied

I got this book as an #arc years ago at a comic-con. It was so clever the way the author creates a dystopian world that is ruled by a big box store (walmart/costco). Scarily realistic and unlike anything I'd read before.

My book clubs choice this month and it was a very popular read. High scores and a lively discussion about greed, capitalism and big business. Although described as a dystopian novel we all felt this is already happening in our present. This novel will might make you think.

I often feel like corporations are getting too powerful. In The Warehouse a company called Cloud sounds very much like Amazon, and it‘s by far the largest shipping operation in the country. The employees live in tiny apartments on site, work 9 hour days 6 days a week, and make less than minimum wage.

Two characters get hired, each with an agenda to sabotage Cloud.

I really liked this, great pacing, twists I didn‘t see coming, fun read!

Book 106🎧 4⭐️

This book was almost a 5⭐️, the body was so good and I thought it was going to lead up to this huge reveal but it kinda just got closed up nicely and that‘s that.

I wanted to know more about the box, the power, the burgers😂

But aside from that, an amazing novel and very easy to imagine based on our current state of things and the power of Amazon!

This book is sooo good! It reminded me of 1984 for modern times. The idea of what would happen if big brother combined with big business. The author has executed it so well it feels possible. The comparisons to Amazon and Walmart were there and I feel like I could get more from this story from a reread because it is so clever. #pop22 #popsugar #highlyrecommend #mustread

Retail giant Cloud has essentially taken over a future dystopian world which is almost unhabitable. Paxton and Zinnia both have their reasons for applying to their live-work facilities.. parallels to our world of 2021 hit a little close to home...

??? The world has long been a hot desert with ghost towns because of the global warming. "Cloud" is a place where you can get a job, housing and everything necessary for life. Sounds good, but what is the price? The story is told on behalf of three characters. There are a lot of things that are hidden between lines. Unfortunately, the main characters didn't seem interesting to me, so I rate the book only three stars(

BookMaven9 They were so bland and needed a backstory to care. I didn‘t feel I knew them 11mo

Entertaining dystopian thriller that muses on how the company that puts Amazon out of business might upend daily work and life. That behemoth is called 'Cloud', Amazon on steroids, with an army of drones and a workforce who live and work on sites across the country. The story is told from 3 POV's: Cloud's dying founder, and two new recruits, a jilted ex-CEO and a corporate spy. An eerily possible dystopic world, though the end is pretty bonkers.

vivastory The cloud burger 😬😱 5y
Billypar @vivastory Yup- a very Soylent Green moment. Not to be outdone by the casual revelation that Cloud has secretly mastered cold fusion. Talk about a day of surprises 😅 5y

I really loved this one even though it envisioned a scary future for our world. This story is set in the future where an online retailer basically runs the entire US. The employees both work and live on each of the company's campuses, and they are under the constant, watchful eye of the company. The company's founder is sick with only a short time left to live, and he is using that time to make final visits to his company's facilities.

I've been so curious about this book and was excited to finally read it. It was darker than expected. I like the world that was created - recognizable but different. I think this book tried to hit on too many different hot button topics to be really enjoyable to me. Still glad I gave it a read! I did listen to the audio and it was okay.

Holy crap. This book was great. I was so drawn into the dystopian Rob Hart created and kept wanting more. It was well paced and built this world that we are all familiar with, but then added twists and turns along the way. A must read for anybody who utilizes a company named after a river in South America.

adesr16 Brilliant book dealing with a fictional monopolistic company that destroys most brick and mortar businesses. Highly recommended 5y

This book is good. Well written and a compelling look at what it means to be part of the labor precariat where the only jobs available treat you as completely disposable. But it was so grim and such a terrifyingly realistic vision of the future that I couldn‘t handle it. I need something a little more escapist!

In the not too distant future, two people with ulterior motives sign up to work for Cloud, an Amazon to the nth degree company which has largely taken over society. This is a completely entertaining book which is also smart social commentary. I highly recommend it.

The concept of Cloud and its MotherClouds where workers live and work felt all too real after hearing stories of Amazon, Facebook and Google. At first I thought this was going to be another book just like The Circle. But this added a layer of corporate espionage and someone who we know from the start is not who or what they say they are. Definitely a page turner and I enjoyed it from start to finish. #reviewathon book 8.

All is not as it seems though in this dystopian tale that feels prescient and the power these companies wield is what makes this so utterly scary. Will Zinnia complete her task, Will Paxton become a company guy? Just how far will Cloud go to keep its secrets?

A completely mesmerising and compelling tale of our possible future…..absolutely petrifying and brilliant……a MUST read cautionary tale.

The mantra of the market dictates pervades every part of this novel. We want cheap products delivered quickly. What are we prepared to sacrifice to get what we want? In the Cloud, we see the brutal work environment, the Draconian ratings system and how those in charge are prepared to take some very 'grey area' decisions in order to give the consumer exactly what they want. And how people fight against it. A scary possible future....
