Ok, I am only on page 24 and I want to bail! I have heard so many good things about this book but I have just read the one star reviews on goodreads and I think that I am already in agreement with some of the criticisms people have.

Chelleo I loved it but It‘s a slow burn. Maybe the audio version will work better? But I‘m also not one to suffer a book so no judgment if you bail. 2d
NomiReads @Chelleo I used to hate DNFing books but as I get older I am becoming increasingly impatient and am sometimes too quick to bail in the opening chapters haha. I‘m taking a break from it tonight and will give it another go tomorrow. Maybe I‘ll see if my library has it on audio, you‘re right that that sometimes makes a difference. 2d
Lchnessmnstr If you haven‘t read Fredrik Backman, I recommend starting with My Grandmother asked me to tell you she‘s sorry. The main character is a likeable child and the book will introduce you to his style and characters. He‘s amazing at making you fall in love with I likeable, real people. The overlap in characters from one book to the next is amazing with stand alone stories. Ove is a real world superhero. 11h
NomiReads @Lchnessmnstr well I ended up bailing early in the book because (among other reasons) I just did not like Ove! I didn‘t realize that the author included the same characters in his other standalone books. I am such a mood reader, I might try Backman again sometime and see if I feel differently about Ove then. 2h

I first read this book 4 1/2 years ago for my book club, and I remember loving it. This time I around I decided to listen to the audio and I found that I still love the book and couldn‘t but laugh out loud while listening to it. I love all the things that happen to keep Ove from being able to end his life. The cast of characters are a hilarious and unique found family that warms the heart. #authoramonth2020

OK, yesterday you managed to narrow down my next book to one of these 5... but I'm making excellent progress on 11/22/63 (@40%) & think I might finish this week.

So I'm thinking I might be able to start 2 - my question today is which 2?! I have no real preference as to genre!

#weeklyforecast @Cinfhen

Cinfhen If you still want crime read Ann C if you want something a little bit more heartfelt go for Ove!!!! 6d
Cinfhen I‘m listening to my #Nordic read now. It‘s pretty good 6d
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen book does sound good - stacked! Also, depending on how I do with Crazy Rich Asians & 11/22/63 I may end up with both Ann Cleeves & Ove! (Although now I rather fancy reading Ann - who have I just remembered?! Lol) 6d

For the first 100 pages I didn‘t understand all the fuss about this book. I was enjoying the effortless writing, but I found myself disliking Ove, and more annoyingly, not buying into the choices the characters were making. But somehow over the course of the second half of this novel I totally fell in love with Ove just as people predicted I would. This was my first Backman novel and I‘m glad he made the list for #AuthorAMonth ! @Soubhiville ⬇️

MelissaSue81 Yep! The first time i read this book I didn't get it either until I fell in love by the end. I re read it after a couple years and the second time through I just bawled the whole time.

This is my first book read for 2020 and it‘s a great start to my reading year! It really reminded me that just when you think it‘s all over, a new door opens and another chapter begins. Life is all about love and new beginnings. 4/5⭐️ 💜👍🏽🥰

WJCintron I have it on my shelves! Good to know that you liked it! I started reading it, but put it down because of all the “like this, and like that“ the author used it SO MUCH! It was driving me crazy. At some point, he stops doing that? I really want to read it, but I'm kind of afraid to start again and bail.

Two chapters in and I'm thinking that Ove will not like me at all, especially the coffee aspect. 😂

On another note, an old man's daily routine and somewhat OCD reminds me of that Jack Nicholson movie, As Good As It Gets (?).

Mehso-so

Mixed feelings. I really liked the theme and idea that family is what you make it, not just the people who are blood related to you. However, this book touches on one very serious subject in particular, and it may have treated it too lightly? I was a little confused on how to feel in those moments.

I‘ve read this book so many times I‘ve lost count. There‘s something about a grumpy old man bonding with a community of people that gets me. It‘s one of my go-to books when I‘m feeling pretty down. What are your go-to‘s??

jeannasser I think one of my go-to's is any book in the Spiderwick series since they are pretty short but never fail to entertain me. They give me a strong sense of nostalgia since it is the first series I ever read as a kid 1mo

I'd been putting off reading this one for awhile, I was suspicious of all the hoopla around it. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Probably one of my favorite stories over the past couple of years. I cried after finishing it, and my inner curmudgeon doesn't really like to admit that.

Been mostly on GR lately (I'm kimba7 over there).

PurpleyPumpkin I'm currently reading this one. It's been sidelined by Christmas, but I fully intend to get back to it in a couple of days. Glad that you enjoyed it!👍🏽 4w

What an excellent book! How can a book about a grumpy old man make you happy, and laugh out loud at times? Read it, and find out.

It‘s about life, death, and everything in between. It touches on many of today‘s issues, experienced through the eyes of Ove. This is definitely one of my favorite books this year!
