pickI'd been putting off reading this one for awhile, I was suspicious of all the hoopla around it. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Probably one of my favorite stories over the past couple of years. I cried after finishing it, and my inner curmudgeon doesn't really like to admit that.
Been mostly on GR lately (I'm kimba7 over there).
Death is a strange thing. We fear it, yet most of us fear more than anything that it may take someone other than ourselves. For the greatest fear of death is always that it will pass us by. And leave us there alone 👴🏼🐈🚙

This book is brilliant! It made me laugh and cry and it features a cat which is a plus for me😸

It‘s about life, death, and everything in between. It touches on many of today‘s issues, experienced through the eyes of Ove. This is definitely one of my favorite books this year!

This is a book that touched me. I found it unexpectedly funny at times and I loved the message of small connections making a great impact in people‘s lives. I have enjoyed all of Mr Backman‘s books that I have read, they are ‘keepers‘ on my bookshelves!
Perhaps it is time for a re-read? 🤔

Only about a 100 pages in but so far so good! Love the characterization of Ove and his imperfections. Amazing how Backman writes this flawed yet lovable character. Will finish the review soon!
All people want to live dignified lives; dignity just means something different to different people.
But sorrow is unreliable in that wat. When people dont share it theres a good chance that it will drive them apart instead.
We can busy ourselves with living or with dying, Ove. We have to move on.
...explaining that when a person gives to another person its not just the receiver whos blessed.
Ove had never been asked how he lived before he met her. But if anyone had asked him, he would have answered that he didnt.
A time comes in every man's life when he decides what sort of man he is going to be. Whether he is the kind who lets other people tread on him, or not.
Houses were fair, they gave you what you deserved. Which, unfortunately, was more than one could day about people.
Men are what they are because of what they do. Not whay they say, said Ove.
It's a strange thing, becoming an orphan at sixteen. To lose your family long before you've had time to create your own to replace it. It's a very specific sort of loneliness.
She believed in destiny. That all the roads you walk in life, in one or another, "lead to what has been predetermined for you."
And if you could just go and buy everything, what was the value of it?
People didnt know how to do that anymore, brew some proper coffee. In the same way as nowadays novody could write with pen. Because now it was all conputers and espresso machines.
pickThis was a toss up between Pick and So-So. It was very slow and dry like Ove's character was. There wasn't much substance but the story had a cute message. Grumpy old Ove clearly wasn't meant to die no matter how hard he tried. He ended up being needed and finding purpose after his wife died. Great ending.
Ran around way too much yesterday so today I am relaxing and finishing this one!
1. I would start with this one & then recommend all his other books.

pickBrilliantly bitter and lovable Ove stole my heart. This tale reminds me of the old fella in the movie UP won over by an eager boy scout...in OVE a sad lonely man is won over by a whole neighborhood. If you can look past some very dark themes its an absolutely sweet read about a man with a big heart.
Love reading in the lunchroom with the door open getting fresh air. Havent had much time to read this and I should be done w it by now!

I could not help myself I re-read this book only a month after I read it for the first time! I just love it so much. Now I‘m starting Britt-Marie was here, also by Backman.

Hello beautiful!! 😍 I finally watched the Swedish movie adaptation of A Man Called Ove last night, and today I decided to pospone all blog obligations, put my current reads on hold and pick up my copy of A Man Called Ove for a long overdue reread instead. ❤ I'm so excited to be meeting favorite character Ove again and I can't wait to compare the original story to the movie afterwards while memories are still fresh. 😁

My soul was singing at the jab and diss at the stupid "you have to be Miss Rainbow to make and be good" cliche....nope...grumpy,swearing and still be good!"People had always said that Ove was “bitter.” But he wasn‘t bloody bitter. He just didn‘t go around grinning the whole time. Did that mean one had to be treated like a criminal?"

pickI loved this book so much! It was basically an adult version of UP. It was really cool seeing how differently Ove sees the world and how true to himself he always was. Even though it didn‘t make him the most pleasant person to be around.
pickThis book was beautiful. Ove is a grumpy old man. It's clear as to why and you love him because of the why. The writing is somber and comical. It's simple and meaningful. Ove is a man that feels tangible and it feels very much so like a loss to end the book and his story.
This book didnt make me anxious to change pages. Instead, it caught my breath and gave me pause multiple times. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

It's embarrassing really, how much I cried over this book. I feel like everybody knows and loves an Ove, or at least I do. I liked the authors writing style and I'll be checking out more of his works.
