A novel imagined brilliantly from the perspective of elephants and their incredible spirit and will to survive. You will never look at one the same again. You will watch these beautiful creatures with awe.

This is a tragic story about the poaching of elephants told from the perspective of the elephant. Goody has a unique voice and is able to paint a picture of the great intellect, capacity for live, and strong family bonds in these great animals.

Thanks to my #lmpbc group for sharing my book with me. I know it was not an easy read for any of us, but one that I think will stay with us for a long while. And, thanks to @cobwebmoth for the bookmark from @Babiesandbooks . What a lovely surprise!

Yet another coffeeshop. I hit a wall after all this rumming around. I'll stay put for a while reading before I walk home. Where I will rest more. I'm a lot better, but I'm still not cured. Incidently, I spoke to the specialist's secretary. Turns out his report had been faxed, twice, to who-knows-where but not to my doctor's clinic. I had to tell them the # and I waited until the fax went through.

I can have caffeine! One singlular portion a day, but still! Yé. We are waiting one month before we try another medication, just to see what happens. Right now, I am better than I've been in six months. Right now, I'm going to that one specialist's office, to put pressure on his secretary whoi still hasn't faxed his report from February. My insurance needs it for my Long Term Leave.

Working on finishing this so I can mail it pronto, before I see my doctor. On the roster, documents my insurance requises, what to do with this medication mess, can I please have caffeine again and, oh, I have thrush. Like I needed another problem.

Quick thought about the book: I can tell just how much SF I've read since 1998. I now expect authors should be able to write truly *alien* minds, because my first impression at the beginning of this reread is that I find the elephants entirely too human.

Woot! I'm here! So news:
☕ After running after my doctor for two days, I'll see him after tomorrow. Better late than never. I feeling better overall, even the caffeine withdrawl, and I'll see this through.
👩‍🏫 My friend who will be reading my paper at the conference tomorrow suggested two changes, and she is right.
📖 Look at me reading a book and drinking decaf. One would even mistake me for a normal human!

1️⃣ Book news: @BookishTrish The #MooseMoose book will be a tiny bit late. Not by much, but I have a paper to finish, due Friday. My brain may be braining like it hasn't in months, but yeah. Deadline. FYI.
2️⃣ Father news: he's having anxiety attacks so good thing he hospitalized: anxiety and infarctions don't mix well.
3️⃣ Me news: I'm braining and I feel well. I think we've got it.

Look what came in the mail!!! Ok, it actually came in the other day but I forgot to post it 🙄 So excited to get to this book. I'm really intrigued by it and huge thanks @dixi_e for the chocolates (stupid picture got cut off) and the amazing llama bookmarks!!! I've been rubbing them in my son's face since It's not saw them. I am only 19 pages in and I am already struck. I sense that Mud‘s story is going to stay with me for a long time. Told from an elephant‘s POV, this novel deals with survival, family, and the ivory poaching trade.

#Riotgrams, day 20: #FavoriteCover. I love this one for The White Bone. I read it when it was newly released, picked up on a whim and discovered while browsing a physical bookstore. It's been forever since I've done that—now I mostly find recs online after much research. I miss finding new books randomly sometimes! How about you?
