I really enjoyed this historical romance novel. I don‘t always love when they‘re wearing wigs and hair paint and stuff like that but this one wasn‘t too bad.

I‘m really interested in what the other character stories are.

I liked the 2 main characters and the story itself. I‘m glad it didn‘t really have any whacky twists. It was just a fun read.

I had thought that my #romance stack would be tiny as most of my titles are ebooks but as I started gathering books I could have made a stack three times as large at least. I really only started reading romance relatively recently but it has quickly become one of my most read genres. After a rough day, for me, curling up a romance is the best stress relief. #24in48

CarolynM I've only got into romance in the last few years and I agree, it's great for relaxation. 5y

Is it wrong that my favourite character was the mad Puritan villain? Prudence's deranged evangelical speeches were hilarious and brought much needed drama to this Regency #romance of a woman falling quickly for a man that she at first claims she would never marry. I'm realizing that certain relationship and gender dynamics do not work for me--in this case alpha men and virginal women. I did like the kind of tongue in cheek melodrama here though!

Finished this one Valentine‘s Day evening 😊 this is a nice, feel good romance which is perfect for me right now as I‘m feeling a bit stressed! The ending was a little predictable but I didn‘t mind, it was enjoyable to read and I will hopefully be starting the next one soon! 😍

The Wilde men love strong and independent woman. The Wilde women/girls are allowed to grow into strong women. And there's Lady Knowe who's the kind of aunt everybody wishes to have.

Willa presents a serene front for the world and keeps her true self for her closest friends. Alaric is returning after many years abroad to find out that he is a celebrity and cannot escape his admirers. Willa fascinates Alaric and he wants to get to know the real woman. Such a lovely romance with some funny stops along the way. #romantsy

Yesterday, I decided to take on something light and fun while I thought I was going to be the first person in the history of mankind to die of the common cold! This is a Regency Romance that accommodates modern sensibilities with an eccentric noble (third son,) sets up at least two sequels, and is nicely researched and complemented with appropriate melodrama. Giving it a Pick if only bc she introduces a character, Katie Wilde 😄

I don‘t read a lot of romance but I like Eloisa James‘ books because they have wit and charm and because the heroines usually have an interest or passion that has nothing to do with romance. I liked the Wilde family and Alaric‘s scenes with North and Willa‘s with Lavinia but was less interested in Alaric and Willa than I was in North and also Lavinia and Parth. Not my favorite James book but a fun, light-hearted summer read.

“Piracy wasn‘t the problem—the problem was the uncanny way young Alaric had depicted his small-minded Etonian instructors in the guise of drunken sailors. These days he avoided portraying self-righteous Englishmen, but the impulse to observe had never left him. He watched and summarized, whether he was in China or an African #jungle.“

“Alaric was experiencing that disagreeable emotion again. It was an emotion that brought an unpleasant physical response with it, like seasickness. Or the consequence of too much brandy. Perhaps the sudden onset of a fever. He sat back, thinking it over, while the young fool from Oxford painstakingly tried to explain to Willa the links between a mythological girl named Penelope and the figure of a #duck drawn in pea soup.”

No surprise that I enjoyed this book as I‘ve never met an @EloisaJames book that I didn‘t. Alaric is swoon worthy from his first appearance, and to watch as he sweetly and irrevocably falls for Willa (his Evie) is a real pleasure. While she fights the attraction, he surrenders to it which is a refreshing turnabout from most historical romances. Loved her pet Sweetpea‘s name as it reminded me of my nickname for my own children. 😊 4/5⭐️ 🔽

robinb I chose the #stepback cover for this pic of the book as I couldn‘t resist showing it! I wish more books featured stepbacks. I love this one in particular as it shows a fun, playful side to the characters. 💙💜💙💜 6y

Speaking of cliffhangers! I never reviewed this one! My first Eloisa James remains my favorite but this is a close second. I have a weird fascination with bog bodies and peat marshes and was genuinely pleased to find them crop up in a romance novel! You never know what esoterica might pop up!

I loved this! My favourite book by @EloisaJames so far.

Not only did I love the story of Alaric and Willa, but there are so many secondary characters that I am looking forward to see again in the next novels.

Just a wonderful story! No far fetched plot twists or strange out of the blue misunderstandings. A well-written story to enjoy

5/5 stars

DGRachel I just finished this and I have to agree - I liked the lack of angsty misunderstandings. I‘m hoping for a good HEA for North and I‘m totally hoping Lavinia plays a role in a book for a certain other member of the family, no matter how much they claim to loathe each other. 😂 7y
julesG @DGRachel They don't really loathe each other. Opposites attract. 😂 7y
